Had the same shift problem no first or forth gear , replaced the solenoid used the fishing line on the horse shoe clip but went from the bottom to replace the clip,to hold the clip I used a push button cable with the 3 claw pincher. Can’t say enough on how great you explained the whole process, thanks again for all the incredible details !
thank you so much for this video, I was able to replace both my a and b solenoids without any issues, my b solenoid was completely fried like the one you showed.
I've worked on a lot of cavaliers. Couldn't you just drop the sub frame and lower the drive train with an engine support or at least the one side to get that cover off? That looks tight. Great video. Thanks
How are you dear. I have a 2008 Cobalt with a 2.2 engine and an automatic transmission. There is a problem: when I start driving the car, the transmission gear becomes hard shift after driving for 5 minutes. and then When I turn off the car and restart it and drive it again, the transmission becomes normal and smooth shift. But after continuing to drive the car for 10 minutes, the transmission returns to becoming hard shift , knowing that there is a code p1811( maximum adapt and long shift). what do you think about this problem?
does the side pan have a gasket or sealer or - i didn't catch how to put back together ? edde also - it seems odd that an electric solenoid could work with out some power - it didn't seem like you "plugged" somethin in like a sensor has a plug =- or did i miss that part ? thanks
You’ll have to hook the electrical connector back to the solenoid after you install the new one. The gasket cannot be replaced without removing the whole transmission, so I just reused the old one and bolted it back up. No leaks.
At 7:30 whats the name of that duck beak part that the metal rod goes into. For some reason when i got done the duck beak part disappeared 😢, i don't know if it fell all the way back in the “Hole" or Fell out. It was there when i started and unhooked please help if can ????
I sent you an email to the email above if that is still yours. Thanks a lot man, 2007 saturn ion 2.2. With your video I was able to adjust a few things here and there and replaced the 2 shift solenoids and the one below that because, why not, already in there lol.
My g6 doesn’t reverse but it drives I’ve already checked the selector switch and changed the transmission fluid only thing I can come up with now it’s the solenoid what do u recommend
@@MidwestMechanics That explains why I got a lot of shrugging when I asked shops nearby about my '07 G6's P0977 issue and how much a solenoid swap would cost. RPMs spike past 2k when trying to go over 30-40mph so OD is gone I guess? I'm not a car mechanic but I like how if you're broke you have to basically eat it or have all these tools and space to work on it yourself. I don't have any easy way to do all this. I feel like just junking the thing. Kinda sad situation; friend gave it to me when they got a new car. Everything works except driving. 🙄
Same issue and we're getting a code P0472 Torque Converter Clutch circuit stuck on, so we're trying to find the TCC solenoid. Hard to find it's location on a simply labeled drawing anywhere. Anybody know where that solenoid is? I think it might the the bottom left rather than the right side where all the rest of the solenoids appear to be.
I just did a second Pontiac G6 week with the same issue, and got the whole job done in 2.5 hours. Much faster the second time around. It’s a fairly easy job.
@@nathaniellittle my friend had the same problem. He just didn’t drive it for a month, got in one day and it was fine, idk whats up with that, mine just started to shift really hard and the tc light came on
Can someone have a problem with a faulty shift solenoid and not have a check engine code? I also have a g6, when it's in reverse it functions as it should. But when I put it into drive, it takes almost 5 seconds to get to 10 kmph. I have to rev it to 3000-4000 rpm and then take my foot off the accelerator, and then accelerate again for it to shift gears. Has no issues maintaining speed, can go 100 kmph if needed, but getting there is an issue. Once it's in third gear it doesn't have much problem gaining speed, but the first two gears are a shit show.
Yes. I did. It slowly degrades intermittently over time. I got all kinds of different symptoms over a long time that seemed unrelated, until it finally threw a code.
I'm convinced these motors run on the pain of the mechanics that fix them

I never worked on a G6.
You could, but I find this much easier and safer if you don’t have a lift. It’s really not a hard job at all. I’ve done 3 of these now.
Can i just take u mine it came out with code p0752
@MidwestMechanics so you were able to get the case off with out moving the subframe? Are you able to get to the other solenoid and converter lock up
I love u man the only I knew how to do it I have watched this video a million time 🎉
Slide some fishing wire through the clip, so that if the clip falls or pops out when you pull it out, you can retrieve it with the fishing wire.
Quick question man do yu know where the TCM located on a 09 Pontiac

Very helpful thank you!!
A crowbar breaks the axle out perfectly
correct,it takes a strong popping with the crow bar and its out
how would you program the new solenoid?

I thought the same thing happened to me. Put a magnet in that hole and she will come out
Thanks 🎉i got out but sadly after finished the problem was still there no drive just reverse
Just curious, what’s that scan tool you are using?
I use the AUTEL 906BT
transmission fluid came out while u did that huh?
Definitely recommend dropping the bottom pan and draining it first
@@MidwestMechanics thanks bro appreciate the help
I found a little yellow ring about 3 inches in diameter at the bottom of my Bell housing. Any idea where this goes?
Behind the transmission casing where the cv axle gos?
Or does the A solenoid come out w a clip just like the B solenoid u described
Yes
Have an 07 g5 gt, same transmission.
I'm hoping this helps my broke ass deal with my Grand prix.
I can't believe they design shit like this

What a nightmare eh getting the spring clip dam.
How did u take out the A solenoid thats where I’m at
My g6 doesn’t reverse but it drives I’ve already checked the selector switch and changed the transmission fluid only thing I can come up with now it’s the solenoid what do u recommend
Is all this really necessary to change out that part.
Yes unfortunately it is
What kind of scan tool do you use?
Autel 906BT
How much that job cost in the shop
They typically won’t do this job at any shop, they’ll just quote you for a whole new transmission.

My car doesnt want to drive it just reverses could this be the same problem bro?
Yours could be a transmission tube on the bottom of the transmission pan. Fairly easy fix if that’s the case
Mine drive but doesn’t reverse what do u recommend?

So what code popped up for you? My code is showing po751
I don’t remember the exact code, but it was along the lines of “1-2 shift solenoid circuit high”

This video was very informative you broke the steps down perfectly
What issue were you having? I am having issues of my 09 G6 not wanting to go faster than 25mph, and seems to stay in first gear.
