    Hi Rich,
    we are a wholesaler from Germany and have noticed your videos.
    We have glass panes specially produced in 4mm thickness that are 100% UV-A & UV-B permeable. The best lamps are produced on the market - but unfortunately the animals do not receive UV-A and UV-B light. If you are interested in these panes of glass - which your customers can replace in their terrarium, or they can be used to build a terrarium from the glass. We would be very happy to work with you.

    Good information. I would like to have seen if holding the screen mesh closer to the bulb would make a difference in shading and change the percentage of penetration.

    • @intensecutn
      @intensecutn Год назад

      I would imagine the closer to the mesh the light was, the more would pass through. You could test it with a regular light and mesh even without the sensor. The result would be the same for uv.

    The test with the mesh was not done properly. Of course if you put the mesh right up to the sensor, it is blocking like 30% of the sensor. I could guarantee if you lowered the sensor away from the mesh, and put the mesh closer to the light source, you would get a much higher reading. You can test this theory without a UVI meter. Get a peice of paper, mesh and any light source. When you have the mesh sitting almost right on the paper, you get a very dark, very defined mesh shadow. Lift the mesh up and the shadow becomes lighter and more blurred. Lift the mesh right up close to the light source, and the shadow is almost completely gone. This is due to light refraction. The light is actually bending around the mesh.
    Moral of the story is, put your light source close to the mesh, and don't sit the mesh right on top of your reptile, as was reflected in this experiment.

      Glass is technically a solid and a liquid. It is much thinner. But having a tester could help. Though truck drivers face issues with the amount of sun exposure they get. Often aging faster on one side more so than the other. I wonder if they have their windows open or no or if car window glass is just different. Though I just take my lizards outside for real sun. I live at a higher elevation than most people and I definitely use that to my advantage. Nothing beats the real sun for our scaly sun worshipers.

    Hi. Sorry I am new to this stuff! I have questions.
    I have been learning a lot about hermit crabs lately, as one in a broken painted shell showed up in my backyard on a cold FL day, we've named him Casper. As I just learned that Casper needs UVB light, and we have him in a 40gal long glass crabitat with a glass hinge top, and some guy on the internet 😏🤭 just told me that UVB does not go through glass. . . My questions
    Firstly, would the UVB pass through the glass if it was closer to the glass?
    If so, would that still not be sufficient lighting?
    If the lighting is not sufficient outside of the glass, could you possibly suggest a UVB light that would be safe to go inside? Or maybe suggest me a video of yours that may talk more about that? Casper is a big climber and super curious of anything new that comes in, he always finds a way to reach the things you don't want him to, so I worry he'd hurt himself.
    I would very much appreciate any helpful input. Thank you for this video and all the helpful information. 🤗

    Hi man. New to reptiles. Trying to get set up for a Uromastyx . I have a mesh screen top tank. 18 inches tall with 2 lights. 1.100 watt basking light and one 26 watt UVB coil light. They are In dome fixtures. Should I switch to a hood light so he will get the proper UVB? Any info is greatly appreciated Thank you!

    • @rhys896
      @rhys896 4 года назад +1

      Let him bite you, they are weak so the bite won't do much and he should eventually stop when you don't react, reacting means he might realise biting = you leaving and that causes him to keep doing it. He'll realise you're not a threat eventually. Possibly put your hand in his substrate and rub your hand with the substrate before you do this so he considers you part of the environment due to your smell :)

    So if my leopard gecko needs 5.0, should I buy a 10.0 to be sure he is getting what he needs (over a mesh lid). I have to use the wire lid because I have a cat. My cat will eat the lizard for sure. My tank is a 20 gallon long so I can attach the fixture inside the lid because it would hang too low.
