I was introduced to this song by a friend back when I carried around a sweet breath bottle of lsd,I made the news in my town with those(they never knew it was me, just warned people about the sweetbreath, then I changed up to sugar cubes) . When I bought my first sheet ther was a drive by shooting into the house I was buying the sheet in. The guy I got it from had a bodyguard, they went on the run years ago. But back to that night, was the first time I heard this song, meant so much to me, still does. Life is crazy, I wouldn't mind some of that liquid tonight, but then I might not come back after all I've taken. Things so simple become so complex, while the things that are so complex become so simple. Have you ever seen the rain?
Yeah I didn't do that at first till I played it! On my guitar with my bro on rythm and I blew my load pretty much it's stuck in my head. More than samba pa TI ever was weird ! Eddie and Carlos woulda been badass
Uninhibited, that's the word I was looking for and that's exactly what they are in spades. To go out there and do what they do is as punk rock as it gets. That's why Henry Rollins admires them
At 35 years old, this song still send an electric drought through my veins. Now, in 2021, as over two decades have passed, I’m so proud of my teenage son embracing the talent and artistry of Ween. Such a marvel is the transience embedded in tracks like A Tear for Eddie! Ween never intended on being as much of a multigenerational success as they has come to be and it shows in their originality. Their stage presence and confidence to be themselves is something worth passing down from parent to next generation for many to come. Thank you, Gene and Dean for your bravery to scope the lobe!
When the band recorded this song they were told to first play as if they had just heard that Eddie was alive still, and then play as if they had found out that was actually dead.
@@markyyyyyyyy321 His comment is a reference to the song Maggot Brain by funkadelic, wherein band leader (at the time), George Clinton, under the influence of LSD, told the guitarist on Maggot Brain, Eddie Hazel, "to play like his mother had died, to picture that day, what he would feel, how he would make sense of his life, how he would take a measure of everything that was inside him." Because of the musical similarities to the track, as well as the homage to Eddie paid in the track name, the reference was apt :)
Not since Jimmy Hendrix did, little wing has a band made a song that no words exist that can better explain what the sound of the music on its own says as this song does. It goes from sad to an anger over the death. Beautiful and so emotional. The fact that they play it a little different everytime they do it live is what I love about ween. They don't forget the purpose. Like many of my favorite artists, they go so uncredited for their art. Only the best are so ahead of their time that they ate usually long gone before being aptly appreciated for what they do. But then fame was never the point to begin with. The art is all that matters

All good modern bands need to love funk. I always know I like a band cause they were inspired by JB, Eddie, and these spirits of Blues. That’s the voice of our lives spoken with words we fail to grasp even when we feel them. RIP Eddie, Dean, The Spirit of ‘76.
