I look at prayer as a conversation with Hashem. What Rabbi Aaron says reinforces what I interpret. Since God is perfect, He has no needs. Whenever we read or hear of Him needing something, what it really means is that this something is what we need. Hashem did not need to rest on the seventh day, rather we need to. Likewise, Hashem does not need our prayers, rather we need them.
    Brilliant discourse, Rabbi!

Interestingly, the Greek word for prayer coincides really well in that it means “exchange of wishes”. Other words are used for “ask”, “beg”, etc.

It could have been translated as meditate. Except that meditation is something you do by yourself and Jewish prayer is something you do to get closer to G-d.

May I suggest an interlinear translation so that we can better have a right intention of energy of what we are saying, as we are learning Hebrew.
Interlinear that the meaning of the word is below the Hebrew word.

I completely agree. This makes sense. I can hope and express it, but I have to follow it up with my actions. I can ask for help in desperate situations to get strength to overcome it and help others in need. I can meditate because I need it for my mental health. But God is not Santa Claus and can't be controlled or persuaded by prayers...!

The desire to want to please God! To be forgiven and blessed to worship, pray, fast, study truth in truth! While God loves Israel, and the Jewish nation, many of us outside of judiasm, desire to worship God and have a sincere deep relationship with God as those of judiasm!...

What is really interesting is that Orthodox Christianity has a very similar view of the same things, as I've been told, the Orthodox church has held tightly to her roots in the old testament and thought of first century Jews.

Our praises are an insult to God? That's condescending and discouraging for people to nurture their relationship and express their gratitude to God. Don't you know that He sees the intent of the heart?
