Basically, for those of you wondering - the main difference between the internal mic and the Videomic Pro is in the way it picks up sound, rather than the quality of the sound. The on camera mic is omnidirectional: it picks up sound equally from all directions. The videomic pro is super cardioid, so it rejects sound from the sides very well, and picks up mostly in the front, and a tiny bit at the back, but it's purpose is essentially to reject everywhere except the front. This is why the audio when sounds muffled when Ben is behind the mic. blog.shure.com/multi-pattern-microphones-what-where-and-how/ www.videopro.com.au/vproadmin1/upload-product-documentation/videomicpro_product_manual-6227.pdf
Ben! Your editing had gotten so good recently. I've always enjoyed the vlogs, but I can definitely tell you're loving the editing a lot more these days. Keep it up!
Not trying to kiss up or anything to get one of those camera bags...... but you are hands down the best daily vlogger on the interwebs... Notification Squad out
+Sam Billingham LOL, I have started to play the video. NOT looked down to the comments. And thought what comment would I write.... Imidiately I had "Been waiting for this." in my mind. Then I scrolled down to write it down. And you have written the exact same sentence in the top comment. Mindblown.
New mic sounds a little muffled when you're behind it, though probably because it's a directional mic... but Casey doesn't seem to get that, which is kinda odd. Is there a pan / directional button on the mic?
new glass is effin brilliant ---- wider angle got me stoked and was super #crispy. New mic was defo better, but i presume it's directional (??) as the audio went pretty mute when you were shooting other people and had it point away from yourself. This vlog was dope nonetheless Ben! peace from New Zealand
Ben, you'd be much better off with a Rode stereomic rather than the direction Videomic Pro. It is way too focused and doesn't capture enough ambient noise.
Only problem with the video mic pro is that if it's not angled towards you then it's muffled. So when you're behind the camera the quality isn't as good. You can flip the switch to make it more surround but I don't think it makes much difference. I thought the in camera audio was quite good :)
+Alvin Penders I think the new mic works really well when he's pointing it at people and recording them but we can't hear him well when he's behind the mic.
First impressions of the RODE mic, very nice directional audio. My only critic is that it's a little bass heavy. Also, that new lens looks great, I really like the width you get out of it. Edit: The more I watch, seems like the stabilization was better on the other lens. Now i'm not sure how I feel... stability vs wider view. I'm going to have to watch some more footage to give you a better answer.
That camera shop is great! I'm from Brazil, bought my used Canon 50mm 1.4 there (my old one "died" the day befora a job) and they gave me the lens hood as a gift.
The image on the new lens isn't quite as stable as the old one. From the viewer's perspective, I think I favor stability to the wider angle. Great blog, though, keep up the good work!
Love the new lens I prefer the wide angle! Looks epic! The directional Rode is great but made it a bit harder to hear you when you were talking/filming from point of view angles. Some of your funniest comments are made when you're making passing comments from POV.. like shiitake mushrooms :)
Ben how much have you spent on all your camera gear!!!! Love your context, your the reason that i want to travel and start photography. YOU ARE A REAL INSPIRATION.
My VMP sounds muffled from when speaking from behind the lens, but crisp when in front of it. - Directional issue for sure. - Def worth it though, when someone is speaking in a noisy environment and are relatively far away. - However: for the vlogs, I think the mini dead cats on the built in audio is working just great and that will allow you to get the 360 omni audio and keep wind noise down. - Much love from Canada
Looking very cool...London, UK is always nice...I hope work is cool...Here in Chicago, IL USA at 7:48pm time, May 7, 2016. So, you are probably a sleep now your time. Stay cool....Continued success...

The visuals in this vlog and recent vlogs lately have been out of this world man!
I don't catch all of Ben's videos, but when I start watching them again, I'm reminded why I love them so much! Fantastic job as always!! xx
Never to early for a beer Ben. Its night time somewhere in the world
It's always nice to see you back in London, Ben!
Visually this was one of the most refined vlogs you've done in awhile. Can tell you were in that creative sweet spot while editing.
yass Ben, been revising and waitressing this whole day for exams. Love watching these vlogs!
Loving the style, Ben. Keep at it bro - you're shit is rad!
Ben this vlog was different, i really loved this new type of editing. Great job.
I liked this because your footage on the train at the start of the video is really awesome 😍👍🏼
Ben! Your editing had gotten so good recently. I've always enjoyed the vlogs, but I can definitely tell you're loving the editing a lot more these days. Keep it up!
This reminds me of the older London vlogs like 2 years ago, love it!!
Oh, how I love being a Brownie!! I can always trust that your vlogs are on damn point! Well done. A true inspiration.
The angles you get are what keep the vids engaging
Not trying to kiss up or anything to get one of those camera bags...... but you are hands down the best daily vlogger on the interwebs...
Notification Squad out
Been waiting for this :)

Welcome home! I so enjoy the London vlogs.
i love your vlogs when you're back in the UK, Ben! maybe i'm biased...
+frequentemily Oh hello, I was just about to watch your recent video. I didn't think I would find you here :P
+Alexander Chelsea hello there!! oh really? Ben's one of my favourites, I have his notifications on :-)
i love his vlogs too :D
You make seemingly boring things special!!!!
+Carisse Chan amazing ay! So much more positive now!
"Spread that seed broooo~" lmao
The bloopers are always the best 😂
New mic sounds a little muffled when you're behind it, though probably because it's a directional mic... but Casey doesn't seem to get that, which is kinda odd. Is there a pan / directional button on the mic?
+Chris Prouse kinda what I expected but tbh the sound from the Sony is really good anyway, I don't need the extra mic complicating my life!
***** Completely agree! :)
+Mr Ben Brown So does that mean you'll be able to return it, or will you use it for your more adventure-y vlogs? The new lens is brilliant, though!
+Mr Ben Brown Is there an option to record on both? Many times Casey has lost audio completely...
I think you´re going into a next level of edition and creativity on youtube, and I like that.
I don't know why, but that whistling train guy totally put me in a good mood :) Love your UK vlogs!
Liking the haircut, mate! :) Love it short on the sides!
+OX4SNYPA thanks bro!
+Mr Ben Brown .......your hair looks like mine, when I roll out of bed... same as my shaving brush.
Literally have been waiting for this!
loved the edit ben!!!! you improve everyday xxxxxxxxxxx
haircut looks amazing ben!
btw loving the lens and the sound was amazing with rode mic on
Ben what's the green hoodie you were wearing in this vlog?
Love the new lens and the new look! It's a bit different, but really nice. Cheers✌🏼
Those slowmotion clips are really giving the video a nice touch. Have only seen something like that in your vlogs :D
Wow! The new lens is great!!! Wider to see more))) Hello from Kiev, Ukraine is waching you=)
Joe is my barber too! Shame he's at the new Marylebone location though, I loved their Covent Garden shop
Woo back with the London vlogs!
Ha ha! "Spread that seeds broooo."
That new mic is probably made for an interview filming. Like when you did the food documentary in costa rica
Great work Ben, although your vlogs are always great quality I feel like they're at their best when you're in London
new glass is effin brilliant ---- wider angle got me stoked and was super #crispy. New mic was defo better, but i presume it's directional (??) as the audio went pretty mute when you were shooting other people and had it point away from yourself. Happy to see the vlogs getting near 100k views, although they deserve double haha but hard work pays off.
Ben, you'd be much better off with a Rode stereomic rather than the direction Videomic Pro. It is way too focused and doesn't capture enough ambient noise.
Love the videos in London!! Wish you were there more often
tbh the mic sounds very muffled when your behind the camera but its clearer when your in front
+James Hilton-Barber mate I know I'm studying film and multimedia. I'm just suggesting him not to use the shotgun mic.
It's because of the mics pickup pattern, which is supercardioid
+Kane Kasemchainan gotya. Mistook you for an ignorant commenter!
So good to see a bit of London, dig it!
Anyone else been missing the intro sequence? 😅🤔
Nope
I am 🙋 such a simple concept
ME !! Ben, hope you notice!
I liked the original one. Before he lost the footage :(
The audio sounds muffled when you don't point the mic at your face but the quality is amazing! Love the intro as well ;)
These are my fav vlogs, the london ones around town
The haircut is pretty great mate! Keep it up with the good vlogs.
Really like the haircut! Nice lens decision too. Very wide.
Great vlog as always.
Love the videos Ben!
New mic sounds so good!
I love the new lens ben! Great choice and I think a great change!
You should check out Hampstead barbers if you're ever in North London! Great video as always!
UK Vlogs are always 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Love the new lens! Looks awesome.
Hi Ben new to the vlogs and I just want to say they look really nice
It amazes me how you make such a mundane thing as getting the tube look so incredible with the shots you get of it
Love the video! Can't wait to see some more from the next adventure! 😊
Only problem with the video mic pro is that if it's not angled towards you then it's muffled. So when you're behind the camera the quality isn't as good. You can flip the switch to make it more surround but I don't think it makes much difference. I thought the in camera audio was quite good :)
I love Ben's London routines😅❤️
UK vlogs are my favourite
Hey Ben, I used to watch your videos everyday. Unfortunately I don't have time to do that now but I still enjoy them just as much. :D
I love your editing Ben. I am learning a lot from your skills. Great video as usual. I am a Brown to
The new mic was a bit muffled, I think the internal mic is a lot better in my opinion
+Alvin Penders I think the new mic works really well when he's pointing it at people and recording them but we can't hear him well when he's behind the mic.
+Alvin Penders It's because it's a directional mic. It picks up noise really well in front of the mic, but not behind
The sound is better with the mic in my opinion xx love you vlogs
That intro edit in the Underground was spot on!
Awesome vlog Ben :D !!!
Your vlogs give me so much inspiration that I started making vlogs of my own! :)
Thank you and keep it up!
WOW the train has the same button to open here in Spain
This new haircut looks really good!
haha "Best Barber in London " fist thing in my mind "Sweeney, Sweeney Tooooodd" 🎼🔪💉🎤
been waiting for this

The slo-mo segment was awesome!
I like the old mic 👍👍 which lens did you bought ? I couldn't catch that
Ben always looks so fresh after a hair cut and a shave
Yay! Your vlogs make me so damn happy!
Ben: great haircut!!! The sound is way better.
Well its not as crap as an internal mic but it i find it is more muffled than your usual one?
+Sam Taylor Its a directional mic, so when he's speaking behind the camera, it doesn't pick up as well.
the 16-35 f4 is my favorite lens of all time! the perfect landscape lens
+Mallory Curtis but im thinking its not that sharp right...??
+karan singh it's sharp, sharper then the more expensive canon 16-35 2.8 actually
its incredibly sharp
I love the new haircut Ben!
That new lens looks fantastic 👍👍👍
The image on the new lens isn't quite as stable as the old one. From the viewer's perspective, I think I favor stability to the wider angle. Great blog, though, keep up the good work!

this lense is absolutly awesome!
Wich one is it?
Sony 16-35 f/4 :D
Ben, your haircut looks smashing!!!
Love the lens Ben. Have you considered switching your photography over to Sony? with the Gmaster glass they should have you covered.
Loved the vlog!
Cinematography on point
love your London vlogs 😁👍
Awesome as always mate ! Any Glasgow meet ups when you're back down ? ;)
London is so beautiful!
ps: Audio quality is sick!
Hey Ben!! Love your vlogs so much. Are u coming to Thailand again ??? If you are come to Phuket
the new lens's terrific, but the mic? still better with the internal mic
Ben how much have you spent on all your camera gear!!!! Love your context, your the reason that i want to travel and start photography. YOU ARE A REAL INSPIRATION.
