- A Congolese asylum seeker has been deported by the Garda National Immigration Bureau days after he walked free from another jail term.
Chico Makamda was jailed in 2019 for a horrific sexual attack on a woman but had clocked up 15 other previous convictions in the 10 years he’d been in Ireland.
Although he agreed to leave the country he never did.
Nicola speaks to Eamon Dillon about the high-profile deportation from the country in recent weeks.

An Irish prison would be a far more cushy option than an African prison
A Deportation order is issued for an individual and people think he is automatically going to be deported.
That’s not always the case .
He has to be interviewed by a representative of the embassy from the country he says he is from.
If the rep says he is not one of theirs then he is going nowhere. It up to the country to take him back.
Then we are stuck with him.
It’s the same with these asylum seekers . They will say they are from another unsafe country and if they
are unsuccessful with their claim they cannot be deported to that country because that country knows
the deportee is not one of theirs. They get to say here for good!
The Minister for Justice doesn’t mention that now does she!
