Great to see Astron getting more attention. When I was in Japan in 2018 I asked Bic Camera (retailer) which was the most popular Seiko models sold domestically. They told me Astron.
I've owned one of these for over a year now. Used daily to set the rest of the collection. The best crystal of all the watches I own, literally invisable. Great review 👍🏻
This is great, really like the jump hour feature. Not a fan of the polished center links, would wear on a strap. Adjustable clasp is awesome, hopefully they can integrate it into GS versions. Thanks Mark. ⌚👍🇯🇵
subscribed on "worried about my life but no worried about my watch" in reference to falling off a cruise ship, haha. well, that and also because that was a sterling review of the Astron. bravo.
Another great review. Always bringing a new watch that deserves a closer look. There's been a fair amount of times I am tempted to just pass because I don't think the watch is of any particular interest to me. However, I usually give the video a try and I'm glad that I did. I'm usually wowed and leave with a lot of interest in whatever said watch was reviewed in your videos. Not alot of the Astron styles interest me. But, this one is particularly is nice and I like how simple and functional it is. And, it actually looks pretty good to me. Nice find and pick.
There is a perpetual calendar in there as well without synching. This is coming very close to my non existent grail watch: 1. Add auto time zone (latitude detection) - there is an analog movement that does this function but never made it to mass production. Was used by some pop up and disappeared company few years ago Japanese watchmaker Lad Weather - and not seen since. 2. Sweeping second hand like the Seiko VH31 movement or the Bulova movements. 3. 38-39mm case with 20mm* band 4. High accuracy quartz oscillator (ie Seiko 8f, 9f, Citizen Axxx calibers, ETA F06, Bulova high frequency)
Thanks for the excellent review. I've been looking and admiring Astrons for 5 years and appreciate their Grand Seiko quality, but I always wonder if I'd give a solar Seiko enough wrist time when I'm rotating my mechanical divers.
@@JeffreyMcMahon I was eyeing both of those model lines before choosing this one, I ultimately decided to go with the more simplified approach of this model vs. the business of multi sub dial laden models.
I live in Canada and pay customs/duty/tax fees when ordering from Sakura. Most recently I purchased a $500 Canadian watch for my mom and the import fees I paid were around $45. Not sure what happens in other countries.
I’m confused! Does it auto set according to daylight saving? Sounds like it doesn’t however if that the case and you accidentally knock the bottom button does it jump an hour? Also if it’s your watch and you have worn it for 6 months what’s with the gloves?
Hello! I recently bought myself a similar Astron. Model SSJ013. I’m fascinated by their appearance. The only thing I was a little upset was because of the small scuffs on the chrome part on the rib of the bracelet link. It seems to me that due to the fact that during transportation the watch was under the pressure of the box on one side and the pillow on the other and these scuffs appeared. But it’s nothing. Please tell me, what is the name of the Casio G-Shock model from this video? They’re also very cool.
I have the newer model of this(2024) 41mm case, beautiful watch, however, when compared the astron gps watch to a radio controlled watch, then you realised that you paid too much . When the summer saving time kicked in,my Astron won't change to +1h and when I travel to a different country (+2h) the same. What's the point if is bang on with atomic time to seconds, when it won't automatically adjust the correct hour. When I arrived to uk,it took few hours to adjust to ...winter time(-1h)😂😂😂. My Citizen Attesa would adjust time very quickly
Comparing his watch to the mechanical ones is like comparing the newest Japan 500 km/hr trains to the steamrollers. There is a certain charm in the steampunk aesthetics, the majority of us are more fascinated by the marvels of modern technology.
just wonder how easy repairs are gonna be on these time pieces, solar panels have a certain life span which would have to be replaced at some point, which again would make it so all the stuff inside wouldnt be original, a damn shame if you ask me
Daylight Saving Time. Not Daylight Savings Time. I have the SSH045 Astron GPS Solar Novak Djokovic 2020 Limited Edition watch and the watch automatically changes for the DST. Not all Astrons automatically change for DST?
Different calibers, DST is a manual update here vs. the default like on your model. Not all areas recognize DST, so it makes sense that it would be considered an option in some areas.
Not a fan of the design or the potential 48mm footprint but am keeping a close eye for an Oceanus that will better fit my tastes. Currently eyeing OCW-T5000-1AJF
@@eliransabak1447 yeah, I was sure it had a smaller footprint than the advertised specs but am still on the prowl for something that speaks more to my design preference. I love the Oceanus line and what they offer for the money, just need to find one that personally resonates with me.
Good point, although that was a 990pc limited edition that costed $3,800. At the time, many considered it a concept watch you could buy. While the Aston released in 2012 was the first full production Solar GPS watch and Citizen didn't release a normal production variation until 2013.

Great rundown thanks, I’m super tempted to get one !
That dial is beautiful. I was previously looking for black 009 version but this is cool also!
A really beautiful watch!

The in sync second for the G Shock and Astron is quite satisfying.
Great find man!!! Very cool watch
It's so good, it could really be a one watch contender
I just pulled the trigger. I can’t wait to get this on my hands👐
Excellent and in depth review, great channel bro! (8 easy sub.
That looks lovely. The pictures on the website really don't do it justice. That's way nicer than I was expecting.
they look way better in your hand

They're quite efficient, so they do hold a charge really well. I do leave mine out, so it can still absorb some indirect lighting daily though.
@@AverageBros The SBXC113 gray dial looks "rich"; so does the SBXC065 and 067. Great solar Grand Seikos.

Thoughts on japan select for jdm seikos?? Is it legit or no?

Hi @average bros do you still keep this and what are your thoughts now. I have just got the SPB143 but thinking of returning due to the QC :(
Why isn't this clasp design incorporated in other Seiko models? Especially the GS line...

Do you have any tips for us English speakers on buying from Sakura Watches? E.g., shipping, English manuals, and anything else?
Comes with an english manual and shipping is calculated at checkout
for £2k though i want a smooth sweep second hand. or at least snoother than this is

There's a link to it at the end of the video 😁
Does the watch update the time daily, automatically, like a GShock with multi-band, or does it only get a signal if manually executed?
It does check for updates automatically as well

The fact Seiko could use that clasp or an improved version on other models kinda annoys me. The Astron is really nice though.

What happens if the Seiko satellite stops working? Will the watch still work minus GMT?
Seiko doesn't have satellites, lol. These use the same GPS satellites everyone else uses.
Is this available to buy in the USA or Japan import only?
I haven't seen it offered in the North America webshop yet, but it is offered internationally outside of Japan as well.

They absolutely do
