You’re a great teacher. I know lots of guys who can repair motorcycles. But they don’t have the ability to explain it to the average person the way you do. Great production as well. The lighting your commentary and camera work are just so helpful to us garage motorcycle mechanics.😁👍
I really appreciate that feedback Dennis, thank you! That's why I am here, for us garage mechanics looking to save a few bucks with our rebuilds by not having to take it to the shop. Then we can spend a little more on those "bling" parts! lol
I have 2000 kx250 and I did a lot of prison time so it’s sat for about 15 years but I’m out now and been out and still have the bike , so this video really helps because I want to do a full rebuild so thanks man great stuff
Hey man I'm fixing to start my first rebuild on my 01 kx250 2stroke and I see you are the man when it comes to the kx 250's and more and if I have any questions can I come to you far the answers I would be honored to have your input brother?
@@JoshuaJones-n6b hope the rebuild gos good it’s a easy bike to work on but can be annoying at times but great year some of the best 2 strokes are the kx 250 from that time period so hope all gos well also if you still have the stock head pipe I would keep that on and put a aftermarket exhaust like pro circuit because that combo always worked better then any kx I rode that had both aftermarket that’s just my suggestion even if you buy both at least take it out once with that combo and maybe it will work for you like it did me just great power and great sound good luck big dog and hope it comes out cherry
Yessir! That will be in the next video when I tear the top end off. But in the mean time there is another video on my channel about how to clean the parts and pieces to two stroke power valves. Same concept for cleaning 💨
4:05 i been riding my kx250 and those C clips broke and my wheel that sits on that shaft came off and have been sitting in there where that cover goes. Im gonna replace it once they come in but i cant believe i been riding for 5 months now not knowing my power valve hasnt been full open!
Right on! This is perfect for the 97 then. Unfortunately no on the 90 haha. But hey if you have the manual and these videos of this tear down, you'll be able to tear down that 90 no problem👍🏼
Great video, Greg! Very informative! I am into vintage racing and I chose an 88 YZ250 for my first rebuild...man, I wish I could make that choice over again! Keep the great videos coming maybe I can learn something...lol!
Haha the 88 will be fun to rebuild that is for sure! The two stroke engines are really similar so you should be able to pick up a few things and apply it to your rebuild🙌🏼
I would say that you could tear down the KDX engine by using these videos. Two stroke motors are pretty similar so even though it won't be exact, you will get the gist of it. 👍🏼
I just picked up a 95 kx250 , needs crank seal replaced so I’m about to start ordering parts to go ahead and do a full rebuild , do you know what year engine parts will interchange? When searching google I find a ton of 99 and up 2 stroke parts , will those years interchange ? From pictures they look the same 🤷🏻♂️
It can work in a pinch but I wouldn't ride with it too long because there is now too much tolerance between the clutch hub and the plates/fibers. You'll have a greater clutch feel with a new basket in there for sure.
Cool video, I’m putting together an 02 right now. I was just curious if you remember the idler gear being a little loose? Like some wobble? I talked to a guy who just did a cr 500 that is also just held on with a circlip, and he says the idler gear wobbles on that that as well. Thanks!
Right on dude! Awesome that you're throwing an 02 back together. Man, I wish I remembered if the idler gear was wobbly or not but I don't. I can see that being the case though. I will double check when I go to put it back together.
@@GregHitchko yeah it’s been a journey to say the least haha. Everything stripped down all brand new and oem, so I’m stoked to finish it in the next couple weeks. Thanks though! I’ll just wait until your assembly video comes out to see if yours is the same.
@@ShaDowF50 Hope everything goes back together smoothly with the rebuild. I am about to ship off my cylinder, crank and tranny to Millennium technologies this week. Then it's off to PC for Mitch to do some porting work. The waiting will be the hardest part!
@GregHitchko ok so I'm tearing mine down the kid I got it from told me 3 different stories about what happened but I just pulled the top end to make sure the rod wasn't broke and the jug wasn't messed up bc when I got the bike it was locked up. But everything Uptop looks good. The kick starter won't move
@@ingramtory7 Have you taken apart the right side of the engine yet to see what might be going on with the kick starter mechanism? Is the crank stuck or just the kicker won't move?
@GregHitchko no I just pulled the head to see the piston and rings to make sure it wasn't bad which it wasn't so that was a good thing and I started to clear my table so I can tear it down but my wife wanted me to do other projects for her so I had to pull off of that but I do know I will need a new kicker and shaft and new shifter and shifter rod bc they welded it on
Oh dang! Are you piecing the bike together and it didn't have those parts? Or were the parts broken or worn out? I would suggest making a post in a KX250 group on Facebook or searching FB market place for someone parting out a bike.
@@GregHitchko The parts are worn and damaged. Ive tried all that. The only thing i can find is a guy with a complete cylinder that was just done by millennium technologies but he want 800 for it. Guess im gonna have to break down and get it. Its an epic build too. Black frame and rims, red accents(hubs ect.) Replacing every bearing in the bike! Your vids have helped a bunch, thanks brother!! 🤙
@@GregHitchko Hey man, Im not one to beg, but i live check to check. I do landscaping. Is there any way you could hook up a fellow 2 stroke lover with one of those Lectron carbs? That would be a big check off my list on the build! And I would be forever grateful Greg. How do you do it? Companies just send you stuff because of your youtube channel??
@@DonnyBerger Man if I had an extra one I would certainly send you one for sure! The lectrons are great for their ease of adjustability compared to a stock carb without a doubt. For this build, I am going to keep the stock carb on it and I want to learn to get the jetting dialed in.
Thank you for this video! I feel a lot more confident and comfortable after watching this I can finally rebuild my 91 kx250

Sweet , Iam tearing down my kx 250 2003 thanks to you😊, tip remove the gear leaver to pull out the shift shaft😂
Right on dude that's awesome! And yup, that's definitely a pro tip right there 😂. Good stuff 💨
Perfect timing as i'm planning to rebuild my 00 kx 250.
Heck yeah 🙌🏼 the following videos will be coming out next week
Could you make a video on the disassembly and cleaning of the kips please!!

Great timing Greg, I'm about to start tearing down my '99 engine and this video is gold!!!

Where did you get the Boyesen water pump?!
I was able to grab it right from Boyesen!

Dude no way! That's wild. It definitely wasn't running nearly at it's full potential then that's for sure. Glad you caught it!
This is professional at every level Do you have video on the KDX200 1986 rebuild? if not, where can we purchase one? thanks in advance
Thank you for the kind words Eddie! Unfortunately I don't have one for a 1986 KDX200 but in general, the process is super similar.
Sounds good, thanks@@GregHitchko
I have a 94 kx250 k but it seems nearly impossible to find parts. Anyone got any leads on some quality parts?
Just an FYI that clutch nut hub is a 30mm!

Is it a bad idea to file down clutch hubs when they are notched? Just filed my ktm 300 outer hub back smooth. Seems to be working ok so far...
