As a 25 years season ticket holder with the Padres, and a peanut vendor while in High School at the old Jack Murphy Stadium (later Qualcomm), Petco is the number one ballpark of all the MLB ballparks that I have attended. Design, food, sight-lines, location, weather, fans, surrounding vibe and fun, huge video score board, media, entertainment, it all adds up to the best baseball experience beyond the Padres themselves. I rate the SF Giants and Pitts Pirates parks as my #2&3, with Wrigley and Fenway as the baseball history buff nirvana locations. The newer Yankee stadium was only Ok, as old Yankee stadium while dated had far more charm and the Mets new park nice, but not a lot around it. Coors field and Camden yards are very cool parks and from the early design generation of today’s newer parks. Coors was cool as it had a lot to do around it in the LoDo area of Denver. Shout out to Safeco in Seattle as another new gen park that was well done. The Oakland colosseum is the absolutely the worst ballpark as I think one of the last multiuser stadiums still around as the Big A in Anaheim was remodeled to an all baseball layout years back and made it a decent ballpark vs. the the old stadium layout they shared with the Rams. Chavez Ravine is a historic park to have a Dodger dog in, and to be able to once upon a time listen to Vin Scully call the game, but just cannot hold a candle to the newer generation stadiums that have wide aisles, open plazas, and much more modern amenities. The old candlestick ballpark in SF was one of the coldest locations to watch a ball game in, especially with the chain link centerfield fence open to the very cold bay winds that blew into the park that had to cost Willis Mays 100 HR’s playing there. Well that my thought of the ballparks I have experience and Petco is my #1!

That’s a great recap of the ones you’ve visit! I’m hoping to get out to Busch in STL this summer as well as the Angels stadium. I thought it was a bit sterile and too clean, but it has a lived in feel now that is awesome. I have been to 26 other new and old MLB parks around the country, and it really is one of the best. @@SACSportsAdventures Back in the early 70s quite a few Americans (IBM staff) moved to my area in Stockholm. As a Swedish kid, I was predominantly into our national sports; soccer and ice hockey. But thanks to my American buddies I quickly developed a deep love for baseball once I got the hang of the rules and tactics. I have followed pro baseball ever since. When I lived and worked in the US for a couple of years in the 90's I spent a minor fortune on MLB and college games in various ballparks. I even travelled to Japan and Korea to sample their vibrant baseball cultures. These days I subscribe to MLB TV and also watch MLB and college baseball highlights on RUclips...

San Diegan here, we do love our ballpark. Go Dads! (many if us do refer to them that way). Glad you enjoyed your stay. The car parking is not as bad as you think. There are a number of lots spread out around the park and, depending on the day, you can even find street parking a walkable distance from the park. I would not recommend that if you are not a local and know the streets. There is also a whole different larger trolley station on the other side of the park that services other trolley lines depending on where you are coming from.
