Our family lived in Argentina in the 50's. My mother made these but she made a ground beef filling added an olive and fried them in oil. No powdered sugar on these. I've been looking for this dough recipe for a long time. I will make them.

I find your recipes so easy to follow. It's a pleasure to watch your channel. I make my zeppoles with no sugar in the dough and I sprinkle them with a little bit of salt at the end instead of powdered sugar. I make them in the shape of a doughnut. That's how my Nona made them (I'm 78 years old) and I still make them every Christmas Eve for the 'Night of the Seven Fishes'. Growing up my Nona lived with us and when she made them she would hand me one that was still hot and she would say 'Soffio' to me (which means 'Blow' in Italian) because they were still hot. I was a very young boy and I interpreted it to 'SCHOOSH' and to this day we still call the zeppoles 'SCHOOSH'. I love your mom. She raised two good boys. Thanks again for such a HAPPY channel.

Honey 🍯 can be substituted for sugar both in dissolving (feeding) yeast in warm water (so dough rise faster) and dunking zeppole in 🍯 is a healthier sweet alternative. I’m going to try the No sweetener in dough (leave to rise overnight), & salt for a savory taste. 🙏😋

I can't wait to make these. I'm from Flushing Queens but spent a better part of my life in Manhattan. You knew where the best Zeppoles came from and it was usually at a pizzeria at the window. Walking down the street with a greasy brown paper bag, powder all over your face and shirt. Mmmm, hot a fresh! I'll be making these for my son. Thank you for the recipe. BTW you made my son want to start making bread, he's 13 with Autism and had no desire to learn how to cook until he saw your prosciutto bread video. Now I have a new KitchenAid mixer and all kinds of baking gear on the way. From one Italian to the next bless you both!
