Hi Karoline, thanks for a great episode. Re: test knitting for big designers, I also think it is worth mentioning that you're branding their pattern so they usually look for someone with a big Instagram following so they can be sure many people will see that knitter's FO of their pattern. I have been rejected from every Danish test knit I have signed up for despite being a native dane and having 7 years of knitting experience and a ton of test knitting experience, regardless of the presence of sponsored yarn or not. It really, truly, feels like there's an "in-group" of people they want as test knitters, and not everyone can join that. Iin contrast I have never been rejected from any international designer test knit I have signed up for 😅

Hi Michelle. Thank you for your thoughtful comment! You’re absolutely right that there’s a level of marketing that designers are looking for when getting their patterns tested and that it doesn’t always feel particularly transparent who’s on that list. I’ve also been rejected from testknits.
I’ve spoken about this particular aspect in the past but maybe not in enough detail. Speaking about my testing experiences is definitely on my list to film! I wish I did know the “secret” to being selected but I honestly don’t 🤷🏼‍♀️ I reckon it’s a mixture of followers, presence on Instagram, size and the speed you can knit. I’ve often thought that I’ve been so successful because I mainly tick presence on Instagram and size - I actually don’t have “that” many followers compared to many others that test for the big designers. Happy to hear if you think I’ve missed out on something.

@@KarolinesKnits No, I think you hit the nail on the head :) I also assume some designers have a close little group of testers they know very well and will only go asking for more if those testers aren't available or already working on something else. I don't really blame them, I have definitely contacted testers for future patterns if they expressed an interest in doing it again after a finished test myself.

So cool that you're doing the test knit and that you were invited!! Such a great sweater project. Cool that you're being so responsible with your pup and training her as well, that's great! I'm very glad she'll be spayed. I've only recently learned how it can be beneficial to let your pet cycle once beforehand. 💜 Congratulations on perhaps finally having your wedding! 🍰 🍾

Hi Karoline, congratulations on the test knit. You shouldn't feel bad about being selected and having sponsored yarn. Designers are drawn to your lovely personality and broad appeal, not just because you're a Danish speaker. I look forward to seeing your Karl Johan pullover and Sept slipover as both of those are in my queue, and for once, I actually purchased the suggested yarn.

Watching your podcast after putting my daughter to bed and so glad I can finally chill a little bit.
Would love to knit an Office Tee! Yours looks absolutely beautiful. Looking forward to the pattern coming out, hopefully soon.
It’s so lovely to hear you talking so positively about your current mental health situation. I’m doing better too, especially thanks for the weather improvements but also I made some changes regarding my job/career and that has helped as well to give me purpose and make more excited to wake up in the morning.
Currently knitting on the Whitmoor Sweater by Ami Lowden. It’s my first lace sweater and it’s flying off the needles!

The pattern has been released in Danish but will need translated to English - I’m sure Nina is planning that 🥰
I’m glad to hear you’re doing better too! I think talking about mental health is so important. Changes to job/career sounds big but can make such a different.

Watching you take care of fayla is more than enough for me 😆 so cute but I am not ready!! Hahaha
I've been test knitting away this year, I think I am basically obsessed with test knitting (send help) lol watching your videos the last year or so really opened my eyes to them and after diving in with my first one in jan, I'm already on my 7th and 8th test knits....! Thank you for talking so much about how hard it was getting a puppy and how it took a while for you to feel the benefits - I found exactly the same when we got our dog in November 2020 and he was hard work. I just felt so guilty all the time because you're supposed to love them and sometimes it was really, really tough and exhausting! I felt like I was the only one so I massively appreciate it

Hi Karoline. Thanks for another lovely podcast. I loved your office tee knitted in silk. I'm currently testknitting a Tee in 100 % silk from Garnkøbing (Mette Marie Kokholm) the yarn from A knitters world is So beautyful. Hi Karoline thanks for sharing. I so enjoy your podcast. I’ve been knitting and watching you and Fayla with my own dogs by my side. The first six months with a pup are the toughest. You’re such a loving pup mum. Hang in there. 💕 I was excited to see you picked up some Woolyknit yarn. I took advantage of the Creabea discount to stock up on cones, too. I’d love to hear your thoughts on projects for their British Wool yarn. I held their Mallard with Biches et Buches silk mohair. I haven’t made anything else with it yet. A friend is using it on colorwork. Any suggestions? Do you hold it single? Double? With other yarns?

    • @KarolinesKnits

How do you find having more than one dog? Now that it’s getting easier I’m getting major puppy fever 🙈
So far I’ve considered a Stockholm sweater v neck in double strand (should be enough in one cone in my size) and for a hank a September slipover. But it may change! A colourwork sweater sounds lovely 🥰

I knit a bunch of socks & no, blocking isn’t necessary but honestly I enjoy them for photos & for stretching those socks out before putting them on because I like to knit my socks so they’re snug but not to snug & blocking them really helps!

How interesting that you have to wait to have Faela de-sexed, in Australia they encourage it to be done around 6 months, before they go on heat. Love the projects and good luck with the test knit deadline.

    • @cheesefriday
      @cheesefriday 2 года назад +1

Same here where I live but it's also vet dependent. I have heard mostly breeders recommending to wait for the first heat before spaying, although I'm unsure why. And from my vets, they say the likelihood of mammary cancer (and other complications) goes up after the first heat.
My sister's dog went through two heats before we spayed her only because she was initially supposed to be a bred by the breeder but after 1.5 years, she didn't turn out to be a good candidate to be bred which I am VERY thankful for! Haha! She's a good dog but I'd much rather not have her go through being pregnant and having puppies.
