Thanks! Yes, definitely hitting that mid winter tougher bite. It can still be good fishing though, just have to change your game plan and make sure to hit those bite windows early and late in the day.
Clam is better than Mr heater, but heat hog vs clam is a serious fight. I just bought the Clam 18,000, but I also had the heat hog 18,000 and just sold it to a friend, so I didn’t compare heat and gas consumption differences if any, but heat hog has a few features that I like. The handle folds back. The heater tilts back to reduce ice melting. I actually like the electric start better on it than the clam. It seems to have a stronger arc. Mr heater is no comparison other than it’s tried and true without any features. I just asked Alex Timm on RUclips to do a comparison on those heaters and he said he will. Check him out too. These guys are great at what they do
Yes. Huge difference! The actual flashers have virtually 0 lag time between what happens underwater and what you see on your graph. The sonar ones all have a slight lag and typically not nearly the target separation that a typical flasher has. I can literally see if my spike comes off my jig on my FLX 38 and I can see the flicker blades flashing on my spoons. It’s that sensitive.
@calebwistad is there any way when you get a chance if you could do a video on when it's freezing conditions outside but the ice keeps cracking and making a bunch of noise it scares the hell out of me
Well, that depends on the circumstances. Luckily now we have enough ice to drive out. I have hauled everything out on foot, by atv and by snowmobile depending on conditions though.
In this case it’s not a problem to have them on the ice a couple feet from the heater for a little while. The ice and water keeps them plenty cool and I wasn’t there long enough for them to dry out. Most of the heat goes up and away from the fish. I have made the mistake of leaving fish in front of the heater too long in the past and the upward facing side can dry out on you.
The flasher simulation on the Garmin is not even close to the performance of an actual flasher. The flasher simulator has quite a bit of lag time and that’s one of the main reasons I stick to the instant readout I get from the flasher. The definition is not even close either. I can dial that Vexilar in so I can literally see the flicker blades and the hook on my spoon moving and I can tell when I spike falls off my jig. Try that with the Garmin.
@@calebwistad I was looking at getting the Clam voyager ice team edition but the light penetration I see through the seems might be a problem. Otter x-over lodge is a tad more $ but looks to have a more solid build. and a 100% better tub and bigger /\.
Close. I said don’t let them FREEZE on the ice. Very different story when you are in a heated shelter. These fish went right into a bucket after I bled them out on the ice and then into my cab so they didn’t freeze on the way home.
@@calebwistad Ah that makes sense. I was like this man just told me not to do that lol. I got a 36" pike on 2lb line last week! Thanks for the help. I really like your video style. Great information and right to the point. Too many channels are trying appeal to a young RUclips audience with clickbait thumb nails.
I dont bother fishing during fronts because the pressure change puts the bite off until it stabilizes. Can you catch fish sure but it not worth my time or the headache because ive been there and done that. I guess if you have nothing else to do except sit in a tent at negative temps talking to yourself you got the perfect setup 😂😂
I need to try ice fishing at least once in time
Yes!👍
Great timing on this video! 😂
Yessir! It’s definitely cold!
I just bought a predator tip up and I really like it. Looking forward to using it more.
That’s great to hear!
Great info. Love using both and raising to the depth and switch to the vexlar when close.
Thanks!
What a nice setup you have there my friend.
Thanks!
@@calebwistadwhat is the in line reel you are using there?
That's a nice setup, thanks for sharing..
Thanks!
Excellent vid!
Thanks!
Great video as usual, maybe sometime you can make vid of how you pack all this to your fishing hole? TY. wealth of information Love it....
Thanks! Luckily now we have good enough ice to drive on on most of our lakes so I literally just packed the truck and drove out to this spot!
Another great informative video! Fishing for me has been slow the last 1 1/2 weeks. Think we're in the January doldrums?
Thanks! Yes, definitely hitting that mid winter tougher bite. It can still be good fishing though, just have to change your game plan and make sure to hit those bite windows early and late in the day.
Great content man! From a northern MN dude. #iceteam
Thanks! Right on.
-35° tomorrow!
Yeah. That qualifies as brutal cold!
Are you on a lake right now? It’s freezing cold out
Yup it’s -20°F not including the windchill right now. Supposed to only get worse.
Good old fashioned winter!
What do you use for an aerator on your engil minnow container?
Cool
🙏
Nice vid!! When are you goons drop a walleye vid?
First I have to go walleye fishing! 😂 hoping to soon.
I’m not gay, but I really like your outfit. The green ice bibs are really cool.
Haha. Thanks! I like the disclaimer. 😆 it’s an awesome suit. Super light and comfortable. It’s the Clam Delta float suit.
Looks like my dream setup. Do those Clam heaters work any better or worse than the Mr. Heater?
Better. They are tougher and have variable heat settings!

What do you use for the underwater camera?
I have been using the new Vexilar Fish Scout Predator camera with the DVR.
Was able to get out this weekend and they were finicky…but still bit a couple of times.
Yep. Not the best fishing but you can always coax a few.
Where are you fishing 🎣 1:57
Washburn county wi
-6*F here this AM in NW Michigan 🥳
Windchills to -30* ……..
No one wanted to fish with ME today !!!
Thanks for the Session !
❄️🎣🧊
It’s a chilly week! Next week is looking great.
I agree ….. I think the shift will get the fish more active !
Have a Great Week 👍🏻🧊🎣
In your experience, is there a difference between a dedicated flasher, or a "regular" fishfinder in flasher mode.
Yes. Huge difference! The actual flashers have virtually 0 lag time between what happens underwater and what you see on your graph. The sonar ones all have a slight lag and typically not nearly the target separation that a typical flasher has. Can’t stress this enough. Didn’t believe it until I borrowed a Vexilar to compare.
Plz lmk if u r ever in Illinois. I would love to ice fish with u.
Right on!

How do you get all your equipment to the spot?
Well, that depends on the circumstances. Luckily now we have enough ice to drive out. I have hauled everything out on foot, by atv and by snowmobile depending on conditions though.
upgrade your Livescope screen to an Ultra 106. no lag at all.
I may have to next year!
How do you cook your pike?
With heat
With a pike
I have a couple recipes on my channel. I like so many. Blackened, fried, poor man’s lobster, broiled. Pike is super versatile!
Do you really want to keep your fish in front of the heater?
In this case it’s not a problem to have them on the ice a couple feet from the heater for a little while. The ice and water keeps them plenty cool and I wasn’t there long enough for them to dry out. Most of the heat goes up and away from the fish. I have made the mistake of leaving fish in front of the heater too long in the past and the upward facing side can dry out on you.
Dude why do you have a flasher and a Garmin....you can literally split screen it on the Garmin 😂

The seams on the clam wtf? Is that for breathing? holes everywhere.
It’s just the stitching on the quilted part I believe.

NOBODY else out there making videos like this. Excellent stuff brother 👏 love it.
Yes great point.
