    Another great informative video! Fishing for me has been slow the last 1 1/2 weeks. Think we're in the January doldrums?

      Thanks! Yes, definitely hitting that mid winter tougher bite. It can still be good fishing though, just have to change your game plan and make sure to hit those bite windows early and late in the day.

    Looks like my dream setup. Do those Clam heaters work any better or worse than the Mr. Heater?

    • @calebwistad
      @calebwistad  12 дней назад +1

      Better. They are tougher and have variable heat settings!

    • @bobbybrooks5846
      @bobbybrooks5846 11 дней назад

      Clam is better than Mr heater, but heat hog vs clam is a serious fight. I just bought the Clam 18,000, but I also had the heat hog 18,000 and just sold it to a friend, so I didn’t compare heat and gas consumption differences if any, but heat hog has a few features that I like. The handle folds back. The heater tilts back to reduce ice melting. I actually like the electric start better on it than the clam. It seems to have a stronger arc. Mr heater is no comparison other than it’s tried and true without any features. I just asked Alex Timm on RUclips to do a comparison on those heaters and he said he will. Check him out too. These guys are great at what they do

    In your experience, is there a difference between a dedicated flasher, or a "regular" fishfinder in flasher mode.

    • @calebwistad
      @calebwistad  11 дней назад +2

      Yes. Huge difference! The actual flashers have virtually 0 lag time between what happens underwater and what you see on your graph. The sonar ones all have a slight lag and typically not nearly the target separation that a typical flasher has. I can literally see if my spike comes off my jig on my FLX 38 and I can see the flicker blades flashing on my spoons. It’s that sensitive.

    • @calebwistad
      @calebwistad  11 дней назад

      Well, that depends on the circumstances. Luckily now we have enough ice to drive out. I have hauled everything out on foot, by atv and by snowmobile depending on conditions though.

    Do you really want to keep your fish in front of the heater?

    • @calebwistad
      @calebwistad  11 дней назад

      In this case it’s not a problem to have them on the ice a couple feet from the heater for a little while. The ice and water keeps them plenty cool and I wasn’t there long enough for them to dry out. Most of the heat goes up and away from the fish. I have made the mistake of leaving fish in front of the heater too long in the past and the upward facing side can dry out on you.

    Dude why do you have a flasher and a Garmin....you can literally split screen it on the Garmin 😂

    • @calebwistad
      @calebwistad  8 дней назад

      The flasher simulation on the Garmin is not even close to the performance of an actual flasher. The flasher simulator has quite a bit of lag time and that’s one of the main reasons I stick to the instant readout I get from the flasher. The definition is not even close either. I can dial that Vexilar in so I can literally see the flicker blades and the hook on my spoon moving and I can tell when I spike falls off my jig. Try that with the Garmin.

      @@calebwistad I was looking at getting the Clam voyager ice team edition but the light penetration I see through the seems might be a problem. Otter x-over lodge is a tad more $ but looks to have a more solid build. and a 100% better tub and bigger /\.

    Didn't you just say in the last video to not leave your fish on the ice.

    • @calebwistad
      @calebwistad  11 дней назад +2

      Close. I said don’t let them FREEZE on the ice. Very different story when you are in a heated shelter. These fish went right into a bucket after I bled them out on the ice and then into my cab so they didn’t freeze on the way home.

      @prelwitz13 11 дней назад

      @@calebwistad Ah that makes sense. I was like this man just told me not to do that lol. I got a 36" pike on 2lb line last week! Thanks for the help. I really like your video style. Great information and right to the point. Too many channels are trying appeal to a young RUclips audience with clickbait thumb nails.

    I dont bother fishing during fronts because the pressure change puts the bite off until it stabilizes. Can you catch fish sure but it not worth my time or the headache because ive been there and done that. I guess if you have nothing else to do except sit in a tent at negative temps talking to yourself you got the perfect setup 😂😂
