Very interesting interview. I love learning about different practices and how they are interwoven through migration and historic pasts..thank you for sharing such insights thought the questions asked
Thank you for sharing both! This was wonderful. As a folk witch from England with dutch ancestry from South Africa, I found this sooo enlightening. I've been working to discover more about this aspect of my heritage and it's a tricky topic so I was thrilled to discover Naomi. Also I've basically been binging your content. I've followed on IG for years but there is so much gold on your YT so thank you for sharing your experience and journey. 🙏 Blessings to you both
That was fascinating! So many similarities to my experience with family secret practices. My West Germanic ancestors came to America a few centuries ago so many of these practices were lost or taken into secrecy. I do know that my great great grandfather was a practicing "Hex Doctor" in the Pennsylvania Dutch tradition but I know very little about the details. I'm sure all of these practices share a common source! I also have ancestry from the Netherlands, Scandinavia & Britain (basically from every place that wanted to colonize what became the original United States) so I have quite a few folk magic traditions I'm eager to research!
I believe PA Dutch folk magic originates in southwestern Germany (also the German parts of Switzerland and France) I have a mutual of mine who creates content based on PA Dutch magic she goes by hexmarie on tiktok and hex_marie on Instagram I'm sure she has more resources that could help you in researching that topic!
Maybe I will one day, but since it's folk magic of a diaspora community originating in southwestern Germany, it is not really my area of expertise As I said in this video, I focus more on the northwest
