my family are from a line of witches from Stary Sacz and do you no of any information on this area?
80% of people suffering autoimmune disorders are women. It definitely makes sense that malevolence can contribute to diseases 😮😢
Most of my heritage is Prussian and Eastern Germany and I'm having trouble trying to find folk magic resources from that area, do you have any ideas?
Can anyone suggest where to go to get information on German folk magic (other than this video) My family carries the name Hiltz (aka Hilts) and I would love to learn the magical practices of my ancestors
I’m a quarter German and want to learn the language as well as the culture and want to find some German Pop music too❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ VIELEN DANKE😊
Thank you! One side of my family is from late 1800’s Bavaria, so, it’s good to know what my ancestors beliefs may have been. Their fairytales, their holidays, and their venerations. I’m assuming by the time beliefs became synchronized, all the way to Ireland, all the stamina to *strictly* convert had fizzled out? So the Celtic and Norse culture were more or less compromised on. X)
I'm not quite sure what you mean. The Celts were converted before the Germanic people. And when it comes to the North Germanic tribes, they started to convert only about one century after the West Germanic ones. So I don't think that the level of Christian-pagan syncretism in each of these cultures is due to the stamina of the missionaries. I also think that this form of syncretism is present in many Germanic and Celtic countries, regardless of when they were converted
As an idea for future videos, maybe you could talk about folk music/ art and how it intersects with folk magic practices? Would be very interesting I think :) Love your videos!
Thank you so much! And yeah, that sounds like an interesting video concept! I'll definitely put it on my list of potential topics to talk about, once I get more time on my hands
Is there a more specific name for central German folk magic? Or more specifically folk magic originating from Hessen?
Here are the books discussed and the order in which they were listed: 1) Egyptian Secrets: or White and Black Art for Man and Beast, by Albertus Magnus 2) The Long-Lost Friend, by Johann George Hohman 3) The Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses, (translated) by Johann Scheible 4) The Complete Grimms Fairytales, by Jacob & Wilhelm Grimm 5) Sagen und Legenden aus Westfalen, by Monika Detering 6) De Gerichtsvollzieher un de Düwel, by Friedrich Ernst Hunsche 7) Das Zweite Gesicht in Westfalen, by Peter Wittkampf Spökenkieker 8) Magische Heilkunst: Das uralte Wissen der Hexen und Heiler für Menschen von heute. Ein Handbuch, by Claire 9) The Nordic Animist Year, by Rune Hjarnø Rasmussen 10) Götten Holle, by Gunivortus Goos 11) Der Indiculus Superstitionum Et Paganiarum, by(?) Georg Heinrich Pertz . Interesting video, thank you!
Thank you for this informative and interesting video. ❤
Part of my family big part is from Pennsylvania Dutch and I really would to explore that said of my folk history and magic especially since I never lived in Pennsylvania.
Thank you so much! What an interesting talk with so many aspects. I grew up in East Germany in near the Polish border. My family has ancestors from Lower Silesia. Also in the region I grew up in a lot of slavic folk tales and traditions are still told. My grandma always told me folk tales. It is beautiful to see that these traditions are still alive and I honestly did not know about this huge cultural diversity. I really agree and connect with the fact, that connecting with the land and the mythology of it is important and can bring many insights. Blessings to both of you.
Hello. thank you for the video. I also recommend the hearth witch. And the channel : emily's witchcraft and tarot. She has beautiful folk witch videos and about shadow work. Greetings
I’m trying to learn more about German, French, English, and Polish folk magick traditions. Can you recommend some online resources?
What fascinates me a lot about German Folk magic or folk magic in general it branches from the origin. I am in America part of my German heritage is from the Pennsylvania Dutch which they their own folk traditions and stemming from German folk magic Frau Holle is a common deity evoke in the spells. 15:25 I never thought about that before that can be very helpful!
I would add ivy the occultist, the hearth witch and the activistwitch. I love that you covered the red text podcast. I hope it can get more love on the RUclips side of things. Love both ry and vouga. Thank you for this.
Wolf Dieter Storl kann ich auch empfehlen zu diesem Thema er hat auch englische Vorträge hier auf youtube
Ivy the occultist ❤ harthwitch ❤ fire lotus the witch ❤
The Witches of the past were mostly not negative. But since they knew things others did not know, and were not insecure being alone, they were perceived as bad… others were & are suspicious and also jealous. Dankeschön for your informative videos 🌲
It’s still the same it seems - positive wise and often alone
Neyah,Thorn Moody,Harmony Nice , Wine & Witchcraft as well Do you know of any Eastern Slavic / Russian witch craft RUclips channels ?
Dankeschön!!
Do you consider yourself fluent in both Low Saxon and everyday German? Other languages?
@hollygF1M I'd consider myself fluent in both German and English. My Low Saxon can get rusty sometimes, but overall, I can hold a decent conversation
awwww danke für das shout-out <3
There's also Pythian Pristess, who is big on tiktok and youtube through collaborations with Sam and Colby
Also the hearth witch, The Oak Witch (Ariana Carrasca) and Alwen Oak
You think you’ll get invited to the retreat this year??
@JointVentureFilms If you're talking about the retreats hosted by Bex, as far as I know, you don't get invited, you just book a spot. And no, I sadly won't be attending any of her retreats since I'm busy and live on the opposite end of the country
@@De_Spoekenkyker I love the videos that came from the retreat last year! You picked a power house group of creators to cover! Love that witchtok is becoming witchtube! 💖
Thank you so much for sharing this video. I think it is great how this community shares and supports each other! Have a wonderful day :)
Omg I saw the thumbnail and was like "this is the video talking about video essays but for witchtube?!?!" Subscribed!!!!!!!
@activistwitch thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoy my content
I love how you described everyone's channel and a snippit of what and how they practice. yes agreed that Slavic folk practices are hard to find and the ones that I do find I cherrish greatly💜Thank you for sharing
Thank you so much for this video! I'm always looking for new witchcraft channels to watch. 😊 However, not many creators come from the middle of Germany (in and around Thüringen) and it's sad. I'd live to listen to a "Harzer Hexe" describing their practices. Do you by any chance know of any on RUclips or other social media platforms?
I know that Moss Matthey (magic_of_the_moss on instagram) is originally from the Harz region. However, nowadays, he lives in Wales, and the majority of his content is about Welsh folk magic. Still, he sometimes throws in little tidbits about German witchcraft
Just subbed to you! This is a great video for navigating all of the wonderful witchy content
This was so much fun to watch! Thank you for including me- that is so kind of you 😍❤️🫶🏻

Latitude: Berlin is 52.5 deg North latitude; Burlington 44.5 N.
wine definitely became more prominent in the 1800s in the missouri rhineland! Herman MO is a big wine/vineyard hub and a little german town! it’s so fun exploring all the wineries and all the local antique shops there! (my ancestors came to the missouri rhineland in the 1800s) i know there was also PA dutch influences in west virginia and appalachia. that is where my grandma is from. i wonder if researching more about PA dutch would inform my practice/ ancestor work. one thing i do remember very distinctly was my grandma whispering her healing prayers under her breath over me when i was a kid and i do remember her speaking off illnesses. 🤔
Just found out that my ancestors on my grandmas side is not just native Canadian! I have a few German last names that are my direct ancestors. I want to connect with them. ❤
I really appreciate the discussion of complex Silesian identity and history! My family is from a town in America that is entirely made up of families who immigrated together from Silesia, and the range of cultural identities among these people who all come from one village is so interesting. Imagine walking into a bar in Wisconsin, USA and hearing German, Polish, Silesian, and Carpatho-Rusyn 😂
This helps me SO much! My Great Grandma was from Germany but we don’t know much of where she came from or our family history, but I needed a starting place to digging into my ancestral practices.
Thank you for your video. It's nice to see that someone is interested in German folk beliefs. And now for the Hexenschuss (med.) lumbago. You make a sudden movement, your intervertebral disc slips or a nerve pinches and you have Hexenschuss. This happened to me more than once and is very painfull
I like what you said about being afraid to mess up a notebook because that has stopped me from a lot of writing and creativity in the past. Great perspective on it being part of the process
I love this! I have traced my fathers lineage back to Ober-Seeman, Hessen Germany. So this was interesting to hear! Also it helped answer some questions about spells I have been thinking about. Thank you!
Always glad to see your content regardless of the breaks, life happens! 💜
Witzig, ich hab gerade etwas rumgegoogelt, was man bei mir in der Ecke (OS) so für Trachten getragen hat und so bin ich hier gelandet.
I'm from Bavaria personally and only recently started getting into folk magick. I feel as though we don't have many traditions because Bavaria was and is very christian. I personally work with Germanic Deities but I don't shy away from Celtic gods because my family is from the North. The other half of my family came to germany during the time of WW2 from Sudetenland and Poland. So I dabble in slawic traditions, mostly through symbolism, sometimes. And the Roman empire had also an impact on this area, so I actually worshipped Roman deities. Through that, egyptian traditions also travelled here, so did greek ones. I have a hard time choosing only one, since I don't want to offend anyone, especially with germanys history. So yeah, this is my little rant. I might also add that christian folk magick is very much a thing bit I don't practice. I recommend the book "Heimische Hexenkunst" by Claire if you want to geberally hear about german folk magick. However with this book you need to do a bit of research yourself in addition.
Verständlich, einen schönen Tag noch. 👍
Hello, I always wanted to write you but never made the time to, your channel has really helped me a lot! I remember when I was looking at pictures of geisha as art reference and when I went to research the clothes they wore, it kept referencing back to a Chinese origin, so I just ended up researching Chinese fashion as a base for Eastern art studies since it gave me so much knowledge about all surrounding countries and not just focusing on a specific country. I started to feel kinda of jealous or left out over recreational artists and how they were not only able to find beauty in tradition but the fact they had it. Not all of us can date our heritage to ancient or even Neolithic times and even know the differences between regions. Eventually, I started to try to do research about parts of where my families from, in early times, but I ended up getting really pegged because so much of gaul's history isn't recorded. But your channel really has taught me to not only be able to detect what is probably veiled ancient tradition or convention but to also respect all folk magic/tradition and reconcile with Christ. I need to also honor, traditions from ancient - medieval - renaissance - and so on, and even modern to connect with my ancestors. So anyways, thank you. I hope you understand you've made a impact in at least my life with these vids.
Fantastic video as per usual and glad to see you back! My family hails from what was the Duchy of Brabant but came to the German coast of Louisiana in 1730... I always love your videos, wish more people would check out your channel fr Also... you look good in that blue 😉
Thank you! Mybe, I've found my color 😅
Hello, a very, very, very interesting video. I am a half-German Spaniard, whose family descends from a German colony that was created in the south of Spain, 8000 German settlers came, and several generations later, the descendants are Spanish and we do not speak German, but many of us want to know about German culture , and that is why these videos are very interesting to me, to see what my ancestors did. I know you don't make videos very often, but if they are so complete, it can be expected.
That's so interesting! I've never heard that there was a German diaspora in southern Spain! I'll definitely look into that!
Interesting to see the similarities between tracht and the norwegian bunad. Thank you for the great video!
