    The only thing that God has to fix here is the ignorance going around against Laverne. She's a wonderful, intellectual person, and there's absolutely nothing wrong.

      Jocelyne Starr as someone else said to another person in the comment section, "You are the reflection of how ignorant our society can be". who are you to tell anyone what they should or shouldn't accept about THEIR body? I'm sure you don't have a problem when other women enhance their breast or other body parts. smh!

    • @plantsnaminals
      @plantsnaminals 10 лет назад +10

      Jocelyne Starr So why do you dye your hair if you don't accept the body you were born with? Why pierce the ears, get tattoos? Aren't you happy with the pretty skin God gave you?
      _Jeee_zus _Christ_. Fucking hypocrites everywhere makin' my skin crawl.

    • @cspringsdave
      @cspringsdave 10 лет назад +1

      Well, if you went on a date with Laverne and things heated up and reached the point of intimacy and you found a surprise, you might feel differently about men who impersonate being women.

    • @plantsnaminals
      @plantsnaminals 10 лет назад +4

      Oh, ok. So you're one of those people who only care about genitals. Genitals make the woman! Of course they do! Gosh, I've been so fucking stupid! Gender couldn't possibly be about your psyche and your neurology!
      *_Fuck_* you and your cis-exclusive feminism. I'm not displaying misogyny. Telling you to jump off a cliff because you're being transphobic and counter-effective to everything feminism actually IS, is not misogyny. It's me being fucking pissed at how fucking terrible of a person you are. Now for christsakes go read something that isn't trans-exclusionary radfem propaganda.

    • @plantsnaminals
      @plantsnaminals 10 лет назад +4

      Ps. you didn't make an argument. You went off on a tangent that did not address what I was actually trying to say to her. So no, I don't have to deconstruct it. I ain't gotta do *shit*. I grew up being labelled a girl/woman because of my genitalia. Just because I don't identify as female doesn't make me "less of a woman". Just because Laverne Cox USED to have a penis does not make her "less of a woman".
      What Jocelyne was trying to say is that apparently we have to keep the bodies we're born with. Which is bullshit. What about kids with cleft palates? Tumors? I mean, if God put the tumors there we should all just die of cancer because that's obviously what god wants. And if you're not differently abled or have a functional body with the generally accepted "proper" number of limbs, extremeties, etc, you can still pierce your ears, cut your hair, put ink under your skin, scarify, etc. And I found it hypocritical of her to spew that bullshit when her fucking icon is a person who has dyed hair, obviously has a lot of tattoos, piercings, and other body modifications.
      TL;DR my beef with Jocelyne is that she seems to idolize someone (or is someone) who has radically modified their own body, VISIBLY, might I add, and then has the fucking *_gall_* to say that Laverne is in the wrong for changing _her_ body so that she can feel comfortable in her own skin. That's fucking bullshit, and Jocelyne, and you, Queenie, need to take a good fucking hard look at yourselves in the mirror and reflect on how the shit you say affects people who are already beaten so far into the dirt to get anywhere they have to find a shovel first.
      *_FUCK_* your gender binary. *_FUCK_* your body essentialism, and *_FUCK_* your self-righteous pseudo-feminism. I'm done.

    I have a friend who is trans IRL.
    I've never asked her anything about her transition, and I've always treated and referred to her as a girl. I've never seen the need to ask anything about her, because she is who she is, and I don't see a reason to question it. If she's happy that way, then I'm happy for her :)

    Having watched interview after interview recently of Laverne Cox, it's clear she's come to PLAY. She's not one of these "media hyped" icons that have been thrust into the spotlight yet have nothing of merit to say (plenty of Pop Icons shall remain nameless). She came into this knowing that it's her time to educate on this issue. If you agree with her, great. If you disagree with her, great. This isn't for everyone. However, I respect the fact that she offers such an eloquent and conversational style to her interviews. She listens to the question that's being asked and then addresses it. Such as her telling Katie that there isn't one, universal Trans experience and then proceeded to give insight. As confident and secure as she is, this still is a truly difficult road she's traveling and she's doing it with grace. As a Trans-Ally I am quite impressed. =)

    Being transgender is not a choice, any more than a straight person wakes up one day and makes a conscious decision to be straight. It's a given; an a priori that exists within our being.,.,.

    it took years of therapy to discover i'm transgender. so for some we just didn't know, we only know that something is wrong. I didn't know why i couldn't go to public swimming pools and public washrooms, I didn't know why this made me so uncomfortable. Some transgender people know exactly whats wrong.

    • @LatinaKamilla
      @LatinaKamilla 10 лет назад +15

      +Crissy Red I can so relate as a transsexual woman myself. I remember moving to Florida with my family when I was younger(around 8) and we went to the beach for the first time and everyone was playing in the sand and all the boys had their shirts off and the girls in bikinis and such. My mother and people around me were trying to get me to take my shirt off and I felt sooooo uncomfortable "exposing" my chest to everyone and I never understood why till I grew up. I ran away and was disgusted by trans women and now, I am one. Sometimes we run away from the truth, but the moment we accept ourselves we truly can blossom into wonderful,respected people and that is what I am doing now. My name is Kamilla, I am 22 yrs young, an aspiring actress and singer and most off I am a transsexual woman. #LivingOutLOUD

      +Seth Munich we need more people like Katie in the world, in and out of media. I saw her earlier interview with Carmen and Laverne when she asked about their transitions, and loved how she set a good example for others to learn from correction. Far too often, people get defensive and go on the offense when they are corrected, but Katie showed the proper response when Laverne told her why her earlier questions were problematic, and I loved how she brought this up in the followup interview here.
      Also, Laverne is pretty f'ing awesome. She is so articulate, and has a great balance of patience and assertiveness.

    I hope Laverne realizes how important and influential she is. I thought I was educated about trans issues before, but she's also helped me understand the important intersections of class and race that define a lot of the discrimination trans people face today. She's such an important spokeswoman and advocate for the trans community, and she really has helped to illuminate the hard truth of the reality for so many trans people, especially in the United States. Not to mention she's a hugely talented actress.

    • @XemphasisontheeyesX
      @XemphasisontheeyesX 10 лет назад +2

      I think many of them dislike themselves, are incredibly self-conscious, are suicidal, or commit suicide.
      Many people DO only transition to a neutral point in between male and female and they are completely ok with that and identify as and think of themselves as "gender neutral", "genderless" or "agender" and if they flip flop around in gender or switch genders regularly they might identify as "bigender" or "gender fluid" or so on and so forth.

      Yeah, and I think that that's awesome~ Just other people who are trans feel that they have to transition entirely (or at least "pass" as the gender cause most people judge gender by secondary sex characteristics) to be entirely male/female.
      Ever trans experience is different and every trans person wants to transition differently. From what I've seen, lots of people who aren't able to transition when they want to have lots of problems with it and may self loath and so on and so forth.

      Yea pretty much. Most transsexuals want/need to at least do HRT in order to feel self love and to be content.

    Tolerance and acceptance are two different things... I have heard a lot about this show, I am of the belief that people can disagree and be friends. If they disagree, it does not make them haters, bigots, or mean, they just simply disagree. I am of the belief that tolerance can be forced.. Acceptance cannot. I had not seen much of Ms. Cox before this video. Ms. Cox has a RIGHT to be referred to in whatever pronoun she would like. Ms. Cox has the RIGHT to 'transition' and undergo any surgery that she would need to make her features appear more feminine. Ms. Cox has the RIGHT to pursue success and an acting career. She has the RIGHT to a fan base and spokesperson opportunities.... In a respectful manor I would say that she has the RIGHT to live her life like she wants. ... Just like I have the RIGHT to say that in this video, my eyes and ears tell me that that is a male with weave, implants, an inflection in her voice and a feminine spirit who prefers to be referred to a a woman. Nothing will change that. If I ever run into her...I would be kind, say hello, congratulations, etc all the while.. Knowing like everyone else does... That that is a Man! I do not think that being transgender or gay is a choice (who would choose that?)However, you can't paint the stripe on a skunk, put it in front of me and tell me its a cat. Live and let live 'She' has her rights and I have mine.

      That's what a transgender woman is: a woman, with a woman's brain, and a woman's gender expression, and a man's body.
      Interestingly, many trans women take hormones and hormones have a profound effect. Many trans women's bodies no longer look male at all.

      @allstarz123456 10 лет назад +1

      Yeah, that's exactly what she is. She is a biological male who has physically changed to match her gender identity. You have the RIGHT to accept nothing because nothing requires your acceptance, it is not anyone's problem what she or any other transgendered person does with their body. You can try to make a distinction between tolerance and acceptance but you are entitling yourself with a right you do not possess or deserve.

    People labelling her as him are rude. If you are being called out on it, quit whining about it and don't expect any sympathy for being a waste of our time. Trans people go out of their way every day to make people not offend and hurt them, when it isn't even really their job. You people need to constantly spew comments about other people, yet don't have the time to think two seconds about what you're saying.

    what a beautiful woman, inside and out. I have honestly become more educated with the transgender community since watching this show and I am so glad I did... There was a lot I did not understand and a lot of previous conceptions I'd had that have completely changed. I salute her bravery to embrace who she really was and to be a spokesperson for this misunderstood group of people.

    Any negativity and hate thrown at ANYONE regardless of personal opinion is unnecessary and wrong. Most of all, it is hurtful. Laverne is a beautiful human being created by God. This fact alone is why people should show respect and love. If anything she needs even more love for all the rejection/hardships she has had to face her whole life. Very classy, well spoken, articulate, and graceful. that is all that matters. It is not other peoples place to judge and condemn others. Absolutely Unacceptable when it is only God who can judge His creation. What is important for us is to focus on the purity of our own hearts and to love one another..something about Laverne I really admire. The quiet, strong spirit within her is inspiring and unique.

    Mind your business and let people live and be who and what they want. Rather than ask why a person would want to live as a woman, turn that prying eye to yourself and ask, "Why in the hell does it bother me so so so much that this person is transgender."
    I don't think we are 'born' this way necessarily. I think we discover ourselves as trasngender, fight against it for a long, long, long time, then transition out of desperation and desire to just express. Why does that offend you all so much? Why does that scare you? Is it your pride in your own masculinity/femininity that anyone would DARE have the gall to stop being a 'man' and choose the weaker 'feminine' (not my logic, I'm talking about you). Or that a gross, strong 'man' would have the NERVE to enter a 'womyn's' space!
    Seriously, mind your own business and let transgender people exist. We have existed for a long, long, long, long, long time in some form or another. In many countries we are celebrated as an expression of human diversity.
    Ignorance doesn't begin to touch on half of these comments I see. You all are just plain hateful, people filled with hate and disgust at everything that's different, you're bullies, and generally mean people. YOU all have the problem. Not her.

      If you're gonna be hateful, either don't watch or get off. People like you are the reason the world is sooooo fucked up. Because of that hateful mindset. I bet God would be disgusted at you for judging other people, because that's his job. So, bye-bye.

    I don't care about what she wants to do to her body. This is America. As long as she pays taxes and is a respectable decent citizen she can do whatever she wants. Has no effect on my life. Who cares guys.

    It's wonderful to hear such support for Laverne, I'm trans myself. But can we please stop focusing so much on the looks of transwomen. This happened when Caitlyn recently came out. Bear in mind all this kind of focus does is reinforce the overly high standards expected of female appearance. And the truth is, that due to the masculinizing effects of male puberty on transwomen that go through it, many of them could never reach these standards of femininity and so when people focus on the pretty, feminine ones this much, it makes others feel worse about themselves, whilst diminishing the more important achievements of people like Laverne!
    I'm caught up in this system too. I wonder if I would simply be able to accept the masculine aspects of myself without having such strong desires to change them if I was brought up in a society that practices less lookism and doesn't OBSESS over the pretty transwomen in a way that basically implies 'Wow, I'm surprised you look so good given that you were assigned male!'.
    Lets praise Laverne for being intelligent and educated about trans issues, and really well spoken on the subject instead!

      @Transmission 12, my only problem with Caitlyn Jenner is her support for the Republican party. She is clearly deluded if she believes they GAF about transgender issues.
