- Flywheel resurfacing 101 with Faye Hadley
In this video, Faye Hadley and I cover the ins and outs of flywheel resurfacing, or refacing, as it is sometimes called.
Over time, and with repeated engagement with the clutch, a flywheel will require a dressing on a flywheel resurfacer. Here, we will demonstrate the proper procedure for the best results.
As always, thank you for watching and I welcome your questions and comments.

I love watching your videos, you are so happy to share your knowledge. You are a true gem in the automotive world you and Faye. I want you to know I show you both as often as possible because you both are great! Thank you keep up the great work and keep enjoying teaching the younger generations!
Hey, thanks Danny and Faye . I probably grind 8 to 10 flywheels a month ,most of mine are farm equipment and heavy trucks, some of are very heavy ,lots of them have steps, I once had a John Deere flywheel with approximately .100 wear on it. After talking to the customer about it, I had found that they had put multiple discs on this tractor without ever resurfacing. The customers main complaint about the clutch was he couldn’t get it to quit slipping and didn’t know about having it resurfaced. he thought he was getting the wrong clutches for this tractor. apparently he had took the flywheel into the dealer to have them match up the clutch to the flywheel, and the countermen figured out that he had never resurfaced
So great to see you guys together. Peas in a pod.
Thoroughly enjoyed this one! As always it's a balance of art and science! But most importantly, fun!
Glad you enjoyed it!
watching your vids inspires me to do more work on my own truck with confidence. thanks.
I love to see this two great people working together
Keep on going Daniel, I Like to watch Videos like yours!
I never seen this process in person, but now i know why, when and how to do it right; has been great.
Miss you, my friend!
Great video Danny and Faye.
I set a mag base on the bed of the Flywheel grinder and indicate in.
Put a rag down of piece of paper to keep grit off the magnet.
Take a few minutes but it is worth it.
I have done stepped flywheels that were never indicated in, and had been surfaced.
Or that never had the dowel pins removed.
Yes the offenders out there that take shortcuts.
And the shops out there that use a disc grinder or a DA to resurface a Flywheel and charge their customers for a Professionally resurfaced Flywheel by a Machine shop.
Quality always pays off in the end.
Have a great weekend. 👍
I love your job❤❤❤❤
The lube and brass drift smack tip is so good. Love these videos as always! So much good info to retain.
Oh and not sure if I've said it yet, but congrats on 10K subs! You deserve far, far more for all you have given us.
Danny your work is awesome buddy.
Your flathead - the Pontiac etc.
We can definitely do a nice Ford 4.6 2V together.
I’ll ride up to your place when I have more time:)
I’m a 18 wheeler guy too.
I definitely know about engine and machine shop work:)
Danny, I always enjoy watching your videos because you really know what you are doing! And as always I LOVE Faye!
WHAT? You mean I can't just use my angle grinder with a flap wheel ?? LOL ( Yes I've been asked that ! )
Very cool! Lol I remember in HS using a hand held grinder to help out my friend really fast at the track! Lol
I love it!!!! Thank you for teaching this!!!! I have never worked with a stepped flywheel before.
You are so welcome!
She seems to be a happy person 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
👍
1 plus 1 equals 10 out of 10
Wow! You are so awsome! Can I come work for you?
You two need to make video
Hi Danny! Quick question. Opinion on copper gasket spray?
I use copper coat spray on old school copper gaskets and Hylomar on new SCE gaskets.
@@MrDanielSoliz Thanks! SCE gaskets like the steel core composite coated type or only their copper as well? Would you advise against copper spray on graphite or MLS gaskets in general? Have you seen it fail a lot? If you have time to answer, thank you. You're one of the few I can trust. ;) Hard to get good info online.
Hylomar on the sce thin copper gaskets and on the graphite you never use any sealer they need to slide on the block and head. MLS also no sealer just a nice clean flat surface. My friend Dave was having sealing issues while testing a supercharged TRD engine on the dyno (high boost) and used Hylomar on a MLS gasket and it worked. 🤔
Another great video! :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Could good results be had with a brake lathe?
Yes,If it doesn’t have heat spots. They use to make a grinder that bolted to an ammco brake lathe.
Awesome vid Faye and Danny
Thank you!
Enjoyed the video and 👍❤️
Glad you enjoyed
Wouldn't the vehicle service manual tell you how to measure a flywheel and tell you about what you must measure?
Maybe a factory service manual, here we don’t have time to look for a specific measurement when we have the flywheel right in front of us. Let us know if you find it.
Great to see you both on another great video. Regards to you all (including Shop Mom of course) from the UK
Thank you, we both have been crazy busy but our actually working on another one right now. 🙌
Off subject, does the hot vapor system give you the same hp?
The Hot Vapor system makes 1.8 hp per cubic inch.
use a stone !!
We did🤔
