Three people I follow on RUclips that do building tips and tricks, norespawns, wasteland dhovakin and skooled zone, helped me with building so much👍
Yeah a lot of what you will see around Sanctuary in this are tips I'd seen on norespawns and skooled zone videeos 😁
The guy I watch uses mods.
Snappy builds, place anywhere, and several more mods
@@mike-thegamingdad those 2 are a life saver when it comes to building lol
@@wesss9353I use snappy builds and several other's just put the finishing touches to Red rocket and ten pines bluff still have about a dozen settlements to either start or finish lol
skooled zone is the guy I follow for building in Fallout. His tips on the mechanical and advanced electrical systems are brilliant.
Love this! I applaud you for sticking with no mod building. It can be frustrating, but yet so satisfying when you get something just as you want it. Personally, I usually follow the magpie method when playing this game as well. So much more fun! 😂 I usually get local leader as soon as I can, because linking settlements is soooo very useful. Especially as you start expanding the number of settlements you have. One suggestion on the crops, they can be rotated to help fit them in planters. Sometimes the leaves that stick out cause collision issue, but it goes away as you rotate the plant.
Thanks for the tip regarding the crops! They mostly went in okay but I had a few corn that were being difficult, and the ones with larger footprints like melons are a nightmare 🤣
This video is a nice change from the usual ones. Nice to see someone doing building. Hope you had a good easter with your children. We spent time with our grandkids just a lot of fun.
Glad you enjoyed it! And the weekend sounds great, ours was quite full on, yesterday I built a lot of flat pack furniture plus a few others jobs around the house. Today was Easter crafting and an egg hunt around the house 😅
That's the way to play the game. Take the perks that interest you and have fun with it. Mutant hounds chops are my favorite. So useful and tasty.
I wasn't sure I could get into a building video 🤔 but I quite enjoyed this bro, thanks
52:17 " Look at how fast my wood is going down " Too many beers and whiskies mate? 🤣🤣
Loved this episode! You're patience and ingenuity is amazing. Looking forward to more videos like this one.
When you're ready to use mods, Place Anywhere is a must have. Another one to consider is Settlement Electricity Overhaul. It gives you a small wireless fuse box that provides 10000 power and will cover most (if not all) of your Settlement, no perks required.
I am digging the setup so far! Once I learned the rug and post trick it made it easier. Looking forward to more building videos! Keep up the good work!
Thanks very much glad you liked it 😁🙌🏼
I’m extremely impressed by your building skills
Thank you 😁 I'm pleased with the greenhouse. I wired it up today, filled the plots and added some basic decoration. It looks great now, especially at night as it's lit up 🤣
@@mike-thegamingdadI bet, all my structures looked like drug houses 😂
@dakotareid1566 nothing wrong with that in a post apocalyptic world 😉

When you have a build item ready to place, if you hold X (or the Xbox equivalent, which I think is A) you can move the object in all directions on the horizontal axis. If you hold X and L1 (or Xbox equivalent) you can move the object on the vertical axis.
Good to know thanks! 👍🏻
Nice greenhouse! I love the warehouse and barn pieces.
Thank you 😁 yeah they were great!
Local Leader is a good perk choice early in the game. I recommend getting the second rank as soon as it becomes available, as it will allow to build workstations (weapons, armour, chemistry, etc.). In the early part of the game, I prioritise the 'utility' perks, such as Chemist, Lockpicking, Hacking, Scrapper, Gun Nut, Armourer, etc. I usually don't get combat-related perks until around level 25, and I play on Survival difficulty.
I would also create Supply Lines to Starlight Drive-In and Tenpines Bluff, so you can use the resources stored at those settlements as well. Having all your settlements linked together means you don't have to travel to Sanctuary every time you wish you drop off Junk. You can just go to the nearest settlement. In my current playthrough I have every settlement, and they are all linked with Supply Lines. I have about 30,000 Wood and 20,000 Steel to build with. I'm not going to run out of resources anytime soon.
In Fallout 4, you can't get addicted to 'medicines,' so Stimpaks, Med-X, Rad-X, RadAway and Refreshing Beverages are safe to use.
Street lights require a wire to be connected to them.
I'm aware that you're doing an un-modded playthrough, but after looking at the challenges you faced using the vanilla building system, I strongly recommend that you consider installing the Place Everywhere mod. It makes settlement building considerably easier. Tired of an object snapping to other objects when trying to place it? Toggle Object and/or Surface snapping off, so you can place it where you want it. Perhaps you want a floor piece to follow an incline, then change the Rotation Axis. Maybe you want to reposition an object without affecting any other attached object or structure. Highlight the object and use the arrow keys on your keyboard to precisely move the object. You can even increase or decrease the move distance, to make sure the object is exactly where you want it to be. Does part of your structure extend outside the settlement build area? Turn off the Workshop Timeout so you can move outside the green boundary and continue building. And that's only some of the features of Place Everywhere. It is an incredible mod.
Thanks for the tips I appreciate it! Yeah I've had that mod recommended before, it does sound really good. I'm hitting build limits now already which surprised me, as I wouldn't say I've done a lot yet build wise. So I may slow down on that front. I may keep this save mod free only purely for the achievements. But it's right at the top of high on my list of mods to get eventually
@@mike-thegamingdad in the vid you mentioned that numerous comments suggested DON'T get "Local Leader" Whoever suggests that doesn't know what they are talking about. As erwinzx states, get this perk up to level 2 ASAP. Not only does Level 2 allow you to build stores (creates money for your settlement - plus easy access to merchants) bit the Bar and the General Store provide HAPPINESS for your settlement. The happier your settlement, the more productive it is.
Great that you have the one supply line to Red Rocket. Get supply Line to ALL your settlements!!!
Don't forget to keep your settlers employed!! That's where the stores come in. Also, you can move settlers to other settlements. Thus if you have too many settlers at Sanctuary, but not enough at say Abernanthy Farms - move some settlers to Abernanthy. Keeps your settlers functioning at peak levels.
@@billsager5634 came here to make a similar comment, Local Leader is a great perk early on if you plan to do settlement stuff!
2 perks which I go for are sandman which allows you to stealth kill someone while they're sleeping and basher, watching you do this playthrough has made me go back and revisit fallout 4 and been having a blast, that's the best thing to do is choose which perks your more interested in and for your play style, eventually you'll be able to level up every single perk anyway 👌👍
Oh nice, I've not really done much gun bashing yet, maybe I need to start 🤣
Oh it's so much fun 😂
Play the game as you enjoy it. Don't let anyone tell you how to play it.
Yep very true 😁 just wanted to clarify that one skill as it became a hot topic 🤣
Love the building episode, look forward to hopefully many more of these 😃
Thanks a lot 😁🙌🏼
Loved this episode! I like the building aspect of this game ... i loved the greenhiouse ... keep it up
Thanks a lot 😁
@@mike-thegamingdad what is your playing schedule actually (i'm at home with a broken leg ... might need surgery so it feels like forever sometimes until i see a new vid popup)
@dimitridaenen4889 I usually try and play about 4 evenings a week, which currently results in about 3 videos as 2 of them are let's plays across Skyrim and FO4.
It's been difficult though recently as my real job is breaking my balls at the minute. I work full time 9-5 but today I've ended up doing 7.45am - 7pm as I'm so busy. When you throw in a wife and 2 kids on top, the gaming has to take a backseat sometimes. I'm hoping one day it will be more than just a hobby and I can give it more time and at more sociable hours.
It's currently 9pm here and I'm going to try get a FO4 episode filmed tonight, which will be uploaded tomorrow as I usually run through them/check quality afterwards but I won't have time this evening as I'm shattered.
Sorry to hear you have broken your leg, that's rough, hopefully you don't need surgery but if so I hope it goes smoothly 🙏🏻
One trick on the tru-wire glitch, you can place a temporary conduit next to the primary conduit you want to wire from. Wire the two together then glitch off your primary conduit. When done remove the temp conduit, let cool 3 minutes before eating. :)
Building up settlements was always my favorite part of this game. I’m sure that’s the fault of the sims lmao. But I’d spend HOURS doing that so i love this

Here, click on the item blocking you, walk to where you need to go and then just cancel. It will return the object to its original place.
Just found your channel, that Greenhouse is absolute mint mate, cheers!
Thanks a lot 😁🙌🏼
I do not want to look at how quickly your wood is going down. Lol😂
Pro-tip: Ingredient items like Brain Fungus, Wild Carrot Flower, Hubflower, etc - STORE in your workshop (I always put it in the cooking station, but does the same as workshop). WHY? Because when crafting, item in that toolbox aren't used, but items in the workshop will be used.
Thus unless you have a very specific request such as collect 20 mutated Fern for someone - put all ingredients in the cooking station/workshop.
Slightly less important for cooking than when crafting at the Chemical Station (We all need drugs man.....) , but as long as everything is in the workshop, you can craft. In the toolbox, you may not know if you actually have the ingredient or not.
Local leader is good. I don’t want to give spoilers but there are certain random encounters that can trigger where you will meet a level 4 trader to serve in shops within your settlements. Like a level 4 armour merchant, a level 4 general goods merchant or a level 4 weapon merchant.
When you meet them on the road you can recruit them but you only have one chance to get them for your settlement if you have the prerequisites. If you don’t have those prerequisites when you encounter them, they’ll refuse to join you and you’ll never get the opportunity again.
I’m pretty sure the prerequisites are having at least ten settlers, having Local Leader 2 and having the matching stall for the specialisation that the trader offers, eg - you’ll have to have the general store stall ready in case you happen to randomly encounter the level 4 general goods merchant. Settlement happiness may also play a part.
If you’re interested in that look into “all level 4 traders for your settlement” and you’ll probably be able to find a more in depth guide.
I missed most of them my first play through and was annoyed at not even knowing about them. Just a heads up.
Awesome thanks a lot for the heads up 😁
Love the green house great job!
Thanks a lot! It's got power/lights now plus some minor decoration so I'll show it in episode 6 👍🏻
Ohhhh, a building/housekeeping episode. Good idea.
Hope you enjoy, was a nice break from combat. Will pick up where 5 left off in Boston next time 😁

I love it all. Watching someone experiencing the game completely fresh just reminds me of my own play through. FO4 was my first Fallout as well, so I can relate. I’m not really a person to be watching play throughs - especially long format - but I love it. Cheers for the entertainment, mate.
@stanettiels7367 no problem at all, glad you and so many others are enjoying watching me fumble my way through 🤣

Keep playing the way you want to play, my favorite perks were sneaking so I could get passed enemies eventually you'll become invisible to enemies
I used to enjoy it on Skyrim when you're sneak Level was really high. You could practically be next to someone and they wouldn't know you were there
@@mike-thegamingdad sometimes you don't want to deal with super mutants or once you keep leveling up you will eventually see legendary death claws like the radioactive death claw or a legendary super mutant
Love that attitude regarding perks. Pick what you are interested in. A few are MUST HAVES, like Local Leader. The rest, depend on your style of play. Some people swear by Cannibalism. I've NEVER used it. Rifleman is great for snipers. Medic is always great because they increase how much health is restored with stimpacks. Why use 3-4 stimpacks, when one (with the right perks) will do the job.
Play with the perks, see which ones you like, which you don't. On the first play through, not knowing anything about the game, you can NOT know exactly what type of character you want. Unlike Skyrim, where as long as you have a bow, you can reach max ability in ranged weapons - even if you created your character as a One-Handed Weapon character - in Fallout (like Cyberpunk 2077), there are limits on how far you can build your character (well, maybe if you play 200+ hours and are at Level 150+ in Fallout, you can be very well rounded).
Personally, I like stealth/sniper, as you almost always have situations that require ranged shooting. Love to carry one great sniper, one great pistol (versatility) and a shotgun for ghouls. Exceptions are for the Mirelurk Queen, which you'll most likely need a missle launcher. But again, your choice. I've watched videos of people playing Fallout 4 as 100% melee. The entire point is to have fun.
-btw (I suck at melee in Fallout 4, but was great at melee in Cyberpunk 2077) Find what works for you, and what you enjoy doing, and run with it.
Yeah I think stealth is always a great choice. There's never a situation where stealth is going to be a hindrance, but many situations where it can be useful. Even the multipliers for stealth damage are great.
The local leader thing I just wanted to discuss briefly as it was a hot topic why I was getting at so early when I only have one functioning settlement (I have settlers at 3 but Tenpines and Oberland aren't built yet). It's great so many are watching this series, I love it, but it comes hand in hand with most of my decisions being scrutinised I think 🤣🤣
Oh, the Mutant Hound Chops are GREAT. Not only do they restore health, they remove radiation. Radaway can be hard to find, especially early, but a few Mutant Hound Chops, and you are as good as new.
Yeah I'll be making sure I grab those in future for sure 👍🏻
Most doctors sell glass if you need some quickly. Doc Withers travels between The Slog, Greentop Nursery and Bunker Hill. Doctor Sun is in Diamond City and "Doctor" Kay is in bunker hill. Also Whitechaple Charlie in Goodneighbor (bartender in Third Rail) sells glass.
Welcome to the joys of Fallout4 building. You can place 99 of something no problem, But the hundredth f...er won't go into place. Excellent job with the roofs though. 👍
Haha I just watched how to build that house you have in your build. Great work btw
Thank you 😁
Your welcome
You inspired me to do a new (5th) playthrough!
Awesome! 🙌🏼
Mike , you could make a power station building with the warehouse or barn peices , using the mesh floors like you did for the greenhouse, , the wires can pass through them easy. Then you only have to glitch a connector to the outside to run all your wires around. The enemies target generators so if you put them inside a building somewhere off in a corner with a turret they will stay safe, you can also move the big purifier with a pillar and make a building and set it over them, with a pillar. That way they are safe, also enemies target scavenging stations especially the super mutants.
Ah okay cool ill have to look into that, I've not really done much with the barn stuff yet. I've hidden my generators away at red rocket and that roof is covered with turrets now 🤣
Loving your videoa. I am also doing no mod builds. There is a wifi power glitch based on the wire glitch you used in this video. The Skooled channel you got the wire glitch from explains it well. Much easier way to hide the wires. There are none!
Oh yeah I think I've seen that one it is very neat!
I always take local leader to rank 2, when you have shops set up at settlements, it's so much easier getting mats for building.
Nice, it starts to look like a place i would join in.
Well done with the greenhouse,! To save yourself running back and forth moving the rest of your crops, just store them and replant them once you're back inside of the greenhouse. If they're in your workshop or in your inventory you can replant them. Once replanted, don't forget to assign your farmers back on them.
Unfortunately, you're going to have to direct-wire all of the streetlamps, but, the good news is stringing wire from lamppost to lamppost isn't a bad way to string power lines through the settlement area. They're high enough that they won't interfere with sightlines, and since there are power lines all throughout the Commonwealth, they're not out of place. Using lampposts is a two-for-one since you're lighting an area and providing power to other areas without using the ugly power pylons.
If you need glass, hit the Speakeasy in Concord, there's a lot of beer bottles and liquor bottles laying around. Don't forget about the Hardware store across the street from the Museum Of Freedom in Concord, the re-spawn in there is constant 2 light bulbs and three fuses on the back wall shelf, a used oil can and duct tape, plungers, a bag of fertilizer, every time you leave the cell. Concord is a good place to keep hitting every other day or two, between the accessible open building spawns and the Workhouse, Speakeasy, and the Civic Tunnels you'll not want for scrap. The Raiders in the Museum Of Freedom also respawn if you want to keep farming them for weapons, ammo, leather and steel, plus it's easy XP.
Thanks a lot! I got power to it tonight, along with sorting the planting and some basic decoration, it looks great now. I've decorated the scrappy raider looking house as well, but surprised myself to see I'm more or less at the build limit. I may need to rethink what I'm doing, as I've only built over 3 plots, plus resources/defences. Many houses left over I was planning on doing stuff with which may be off limits now.
Thanks for the tip about Concord, I'll make my way over there again 👍🏻
@@mike-thegamingdad Go out and attack some Raider groups and take every shotgun and pipe weapon .. no armor just weapons. Bring them back to Sanctuary and drop them on the ground, open up the workshop and manually scrap them.. and watch the build meter drop. Scrapping them in the workbench or in the workshop does not make the build meter drop only scrapping them manually on the ground. Try it.
@wod5203 amazing thanks a lot! I'll try that tonight!
@@wod5203 @mike-thegamingdad This method works with junk as well so the need to farm raiders is less
Paul at Skooled Zone is my favorite tutorial guide for Fo4 settlement building.👍
Yeah his videos were really helpful, only watched 3 so far but learnt loads
Idk if ya kniw now but if u scrap sum an it has stuff in it it gose to your work bench. Great video!!! ❤
Thanks a lot I appreciate it! 😁🙌🏼
You can usually escape being enclosed in an area by selecting a wall or floor, walking thru then deselecting.
Fabulous greenhouse.
Thank you 😁
I’ve never really spent much time building stuff so very interested in watching you and how you go about it. I also like to have a separate container just for any starred weapons and armour items. Just to keep them separate from all the mundane items.
Also grab any 5.56 ammo for high powered sniper rifle. Think it’s the right ammo, maybe someone can confirm that. Shotgun shells buy buy buy lol
I love the building element, although I'm hitting Sanctuary build limits already which surprised me as I've only really done 2 houses so far plus the greenhouse, may need to rethink what I'm doing
@mike-thegamingdad The build limit increases with the number of settlers. It can however, be a challenge in and of itself.
If you put down a foundation first the warehouse and barn floors will fit right into the foundation. I hope that makes sense. I've never seen the wire glitch before. But then I don't watch many settlement building tutorials. I like all the wires showing and I use those huge wind turbines because I think they look cool. I use a mod where I can remove the rooves of the houses and then I put a floor up there and put the wind turbines right on top of it
I don't know if you've been told about the trick with multi-select. You may notice when you multi-select that the group will kind of pop-up and off to one side in a wonky way. To handle this, select the primary item you're using for multi-select (like the post for that roof for example) then deselect it. This puts the focus on that one item. Then multi-select using that item, then everything should stay centered for you.
Play anyway that's fun to you buddy!❤
29:17 you can do a 4 wide, use the Barn wall and you line it up by eye. Its easier then you may think, and then you build the roof from one side to the other and drop a wall in again so its lined up nice.
When building, you can move things closer/further to you, without moving the camera. Look up the controls before next episode. On PC you use the mousewheel. On PS I believe its holding X and some other button at the same time.
You are about to reach the Building maximum for Sanctuary. It is possible to extend the building maximum with a glitch (Drop weapons on the ground, and move them to storage with the Building menu), but the more you do it, the more unstable your savefile becomes.
If your trying a few mods now may I recommend, “scrap everything” and “Place anywhere” makes building much more enjoyable
Good Job! 🤠
Thanks 😁
You can modify the miners hat to have different color lights, Red, purple then that will become your main flashlight I use the red one for night time
Awesome! 🙌🏼
Local Leader is a good choice, now's as good a time as any. But yeah, next level up, get Rifleman.
AFAIK, Rad-X and Radaway only have adverse effects on Survival Mode.
It's surprised me how much xp you can get from building. You may not have got to it yet but towards the end of the video I end up with 3 level ups/perk points. Rifleman is one of them 😁
Many of the older structures in the Southern States of the USA used overhanging porches as a matter of course
Some quick thoughts:
1. I find that the tall scaffolding makes good raised turret bases
2. Another option for adding "supports" under floating floors, etc. is ball track supports.
Thanks for those! Not seen anyone mention the ball track supports before! 👍🏻
@@mike-thegamingdad Yeah, I got that from another RUclipsr. I think Skooled Zone, but I'm not sure. They are great for it, though.
If you haven't found a way to hide the generators and wires, just put a shack around them? That is usually what I do... GREAT episode, must say I enjoyed it very much.
Thanks yeah I did consider putting a shack around the sides and then a few turrets on top 🤣. I'll load it up tonight and have a look
You should just put your items that are used to modify equipment etc directly into the appropriate work bench I.E. food in the cooking bench, chems in the chemistry bench etc. That way you have them already ready to be used for any upgrade. As for junk I will scrap them so I can get the full resource the item has, which then is automatically stored in the work bench. As you add furniture you can do a little role play and place coolers etc down for your settlers
As far as getting attacked at your settlements by raiders goes, there are spawn points (if I remember right up to 5) for attackers at each settlement. The attackers do not always spawn at the same spawn point... in fact when I would sure up one area it seemed like they would move to a different spawn. I've seen some guys that have built cages out of walls to trap the raiders in the spawns if the spawns are within the building areas, otherwise I've set up like 10 turrets pointed at each spawn point and usually they take care of it before a settler is needed.
Yeah more turrets seems to be the way forward, the more the better
I think the wires add more aesthetics when they’re visible
I like beefing up settlement defense with 1 rank each of animal friendship & wasteland whisperer + science: beacons (keeps caged/caught creatures friendly)+ yao gui (bear) meat = Deathclaw pets for settlements.. think you need the wasteland workshop and/or contraptions workshop for dlc for it, but still fun
Nice yeah I saw the cages but couldn't implement any of those yet without the proper perks 😁. Would be fun to see them attacking raiders if that's what they do 🤣
It’s actually The Boston Common, if you want to sound like a local and not a tourist… 😂😂😂
Look into Hangman's Alley. It's my favorite settlement. Small, but really close to Diamond City.
Okay thanks for the heads up 😁👍🏻
In your builds, I believe that you can stretch and shrink walls and other items to fit. There are build tutorials here on RUclips
You have to keep giving dog makes Bakkies teddy bears every time you empty his inventory is teddy bears
@@diannecrothers7278 I picked up a couple more last night, I'll make a note to give him them and then not remove them 😁
If you want stuff to really disappear, make a safe, open the console, make sure you click on the thing you want to remove (some things won't be selectable) and type "disable" without the " and press enter. Done.
Perhaps as a 2nd income, industrial purified water, grows each day, sellable, and life preparing with no neg affects.
Yeah its a very profitable business thats for sure
Do you have any tips for build space? I want to build more on sanctuary my build space is maxed out and i only have like a 2 story building and some fence walls basically im not sure why my build space is maxed out over hardly little? Any help would be great
Hey yeah the game has some goofy loophole where if you break down weapons at the workbench, it lowers the build limit. So what I did was clear a load of old locations that had respawned (Corvega assembly plant has a lot of raiders) and collect every weapon you can find. Then break them down for parts and your build limit will fall
I’m also building without mods. I’m really enjoying it, though I do wish we had access to a shower instead of that nasty bathtub!
Haha yeah that would be good 😅
Tatos and carrots fit 9 per plot. If you really squeeze you can fit 16. Corn is a pain. 4-5 per plot. Mutfruit I sometimes manage 9, mostly 6. The corn can fit better if you spin them around.
Strangely mutfruit has been the most compliant, despite being one of the larger foot prints. Corn yeah max of 5 I'm getting. Carrots were being difficult as well, but then it could be my plots on the top level as everything up there is proving hard to plant
You can rug glich the water pumps in the water in to the land looks much better
That's cool thanks for the heads up 😁
A door matt is go to use when buliding to move some were it wont go i did dis to to put a door on my spar room at the Fromt of my house in sanctuary to turn it into an Armory
I pronounce the Yao Guai as Yogi, as in Yogi Bear. Not saying that's right, but I always think, did Yogi eat Boo Boo? Makes me smile.
You don’t keep your crops in your workbench? If you do that they are available at any kitchen at any settlement connected via trade route.
I do now yeah for that reason 👍🏻 I didn't know at the time that they only link up to the workbench not the storage
I don't know how it works on console, but on PC you can use the mouse buttons to rotate the parts, makes lining them up a bit easier sometimes.
Yeah I should really just use the keyboard and mouse but I never have, I always use a controller regardless, so it would most likely feel very alien 🤣
How do you get the barn and warehouse building options? I downloaded wasteland build dlc and thought it would all be in there?
So weirdly Barn is in Far Harbor, and Warehouse is in Contraptions. Not sure why as I don't know the history behind the DLCs, when they were released etc. I just bought the GOTY edition that came with everything
@@mike-thegamingdad ahhh right OK mate, thank you 👍
Mike if you move the plants without putting them in your inventory first the npc's will continue to garden in the original spot, it has something to do with the scripted content, the setters dont know the plants were moved
Haha fair enough 🤣
Mike when you move the vegetables from one plot like outside behind that house to the settled as a going to still be farming them from behind the house because you have to take them in the inventory if you just move them they're going to farm with a used to be because the AI isn't recognized that they've been moved is that make sense just so you don't do a bunch of work and then wonder why your settlers still congregate and behind Behind that house helpful hint
Ah okay thanks for the heads up 👍🏻
Can you explain how the conduits work ? How are you getting it to go so far ? From the water all the way to the street ?
Ah that is a trick I learnt watching a Skooled Zone video. So what you need to is set up a wire between 2 conduits the standard way. And then to get a wire to go a long distance and through objects, what you need to do is hover on the conduit, then the wire, but get as close to the conduit as possible. The wire should be lit up, not the conduit. Then select the wire. You'll know if its done correctly because you'll hear it sparking, but a wire won't be visible. Then go to where you want to connect it up and connect. The wire will then appear and run through any objects/floors in between
This video explains it very well

Just letting you know I think there’s actually a greenhouse menu that isn’t in the warehouse section if you scroll past warehouse
What mods do you have? I don't have concrete options.
I don't have any mods, but I did download the GOTY edition which has all the DLCs. It's likely one of the DLCs that contains concrete
hey... i just went to Nuka World and Sierra Petrovita wont talk to me.. any advice on how to solve it? I cant even start the cappy quest? Any console commands that can fix it? or should i just kill her and get the cappy glasses? would the quest work and stills tart without her? advice please...
Not got to that point yet but one console command that has worked for me when an NPC was bugging out was ResetAI
If not that I'd check through the console command libraries online, it could be something busted around affinity, I.e. if certain NPCs don't like you I don't think certain options become available anymore..not saying this is that but it could be worth investigating, something could be wrong with her and there are ways I'm sure to set affinity back to neutral. There used to be in Skyrim
@@mike-thegamingdad i tried reset ai and recycle actor .. reset si did nothing, unless i typed it wrong. i just did it how some one wrote on a discussion thread ie resetai... basically nothing happened she still wouldnt talk.. when i did recycleactor she disappeared and returned naked but still wouldnt talk... im not sure affinity effects npcs does it? i thought its only companions? i did kill the guy on the way to nuka world that tries to con you.. without even talking to him just shot him.. dunno if that effects it... usually i talk to him and let him live.. i was trying to play a bit of a worse guy this time.. but i ended up being the good guy on most quests anyway.. i mean, there are often actually little options in fo4 to do bad things and get a good result like more profit or experience (unlike in the real world) so u often end up just doing the nice guy stuff cos u want the money and xp.. theres not really much roleplaying in the game.. 4 speech options all end up witht eh same result kinda thing.. which is a real shame
33:18 Whisky you say? 👀
Im new how do you unlock barn and warehouse, is it one the perks or magazines? Im on xbox
They are DLC items, so I think the Far Harbor add on adds barns, Wasteland Workshop or Contraptions I think is Warehouse/Greenhouse
@mike-thegamingdad thanks mate appreciate your responseI've been searching everywhere for information on how to unlock these building perks. There's no information out there thanks again
Here's a video of a mini-outpost build I like to do at most settlements. Covers some unique ways of building including a foolproof way to keep settlers out of your stuff. Unfortunately it's prior to when I learned to properly sink fusion generators into warehouse concrete slabs (finally figured that one out - hint: the pillar needs to line up with the seam between the slabs).

Awesome video thats a great build 😁
The streetlights don't use radiant power, they need to be wired. You could wire it to the conuit on the ground, then pillar glitch it over the conduit.
Ah okay thank you, I may do that for the first one then and then wire the rest to each other. I don't mind wires about head height as much 😁
@@mike-thegamingdad You're very welcome, Mike! I'm really enjoying these videos.
@@mike-thegamingdad wifi glitch works with street lamps along with all electrical dependant devices
A channel I follow which concentrates on settlement build is Fiddleflaps Vids - www.youtube.com/@FiddleflapsVids . I have picked up quite a few ideas from watching Fiddleflaps' videos. The builds are mostly unmodded, with the exception of Place Everywhere.
Thanks for the heads up will check them out 😁
I'm playing fallout 76 every weekend Boooyyyeee!!!
Nice enjoy 😁
Not sure why anyone would suggest that you not get the Local Leader perks. They are essential to settlement building, so that makes no sense.
Why can’t you sell power armor?
I assume you can sell the pieces. Just not the frame. As only the pieces you can put in your inventory
Nexus Mods are good and Fallout creation kit is good for making your own Mods
Yeah I plan to look into mods once I've done a few vanilla playthroughs 👍🏻
Did you get around to building water purifiers?
Easy caps
I show in this how I plan to set them up, but I only did the 1 in the video, but yeah this evening I'll likely build more and then I can start earning caps from water (plus make more veg starch and refreshing beverages 👍🏻)
@@mike-thegamingdad are you using a controller?
Click and hold the back button to access the workbench.
And I just got to the water part of the video
@wesss9353 yeah I am, okay will try that 👍🏻 it's really annoying as sometimes it'll work and others just doesn't seem to respond, even when it's giving me the prompt on screen

As someone who has been playing FO4 over the last nine years, I think you should play the game however you want even if some people think you're not playing it the "best way". IMO there isn't one set in stone "best way" to play the game, you should play the game in such a way that brings you the most enjoyment. Therefore, if you get to a point and you see that you have unlocked the ability to put points in a skill you like even if it isn't the "best skill" to spend a point in you should do it because you like that skill not because it's the "best skill". Over the last nine years I think I've played the game from start to nothing left to do around one or two times every eighteen months to two years and I've never been the type that picks the best way to play, I always pick what I like because to me that's more fun.
Very solid advice indeed 😁👍🏻
no extended weekend but i took next friday off because its my bday
Awesome hope you have a great 3 day weekend then, great way to start it with a birthday 🥳🎉
I play this game to become an emperor.
Not an Emperor Palpetine I hope 😅 (I may have introduced my eldest to Star Wars today 🤣)

What’s the obsession with visible wires in an apocalyptic world?
Not sure, it is probably normal to see all the wires.
I don't mind the ones around my houses, they go well with the scrappy raider look
Are you playing with mods on this playthrough or is it all vanilla?
Hey this is vanilla 👍🏻
@@mike-thegamingdad I might just get back into F4 again. Mods had me put of the game for ages, and vanilla sounded meh, but after watching your gameplay, I get the motivation to get back into it again.
@farmerrabbit that's awesome 😁 yeah I've heard about some good mods others have shared in comments, but I remember when I looked on nexus ages ago for Skyrim there was just so much bad stuff to wade through, and sex as well, why is everyone so horny 🤣🤣. I more or less always play games vanilla but if I get mods recommended to me I'll find them.
Your building techniques are interesting but I can’t feel sure that those houses are worth the settlement limit costs that the roofs take up. I guess it depends how many settlers you intend to house. I have a general aim of 20 settlers at 80% happiness. We will see how much you can fit in with the settlement budget limit.!
Yeah I did some decoration in my main big house, plus finished off the greenhouse. I'm almost at the limit now, so I'll have to rethink my strategy I think. Not going to be able to do much more
@@mike-thegamingdad If you decide to mod the game at some point I would suggest you consider “Scrap that settlement ”. You can get rid of most of the houses and rubble and the ugly scrub. This reduces the settlement build limit before you start building and allows you to create whatever you want to in its place. Its hard to give the settlers all they want particularly the defense and shops (food, clinic etc) with the original budget!
My building resource costs seems higher than yours. Where you need 4 glass to build something, my game has me cost 8 glass. Is there a reason your game is like that? A perk or a magazine?
Oh I'm not sure, this was the first time I've ever built anything properly, so just took the costs at face value. Which item was I building that cost me 4 glass, costs you 8 glass?
Local Leader is a must if you plan to do any settlement stuff. Building in an unmodded game is a no bueno for me. As a matter of fact, I purchased a new pc for this game when it came out with the intention of getting into modding because the building mechanics are so rage inducing.
Aside from watching this video, I've spent the better part of 8 hours building a mobile home (a caravan for you east ponders,) at a Red Rocket. One can get lost in the building process to be sure 🙄
Yeah everyone says get the place anywhere mod which I most likely will do when I've got most of the achievements.
That build sounds awesome! Yeah it's a real rabbit hole isn't it. Playing Fallout we all become Alice in Wonderland
@mike-thegamingdad Place Anywhere is a permanent in my load order, as is Achievements, to curtail the FOMO.
Just scrap all the houses and build from scratch
Can you do that without mods? I've scrapped everything I think I can possibly scrap so far but the buildings don't look like I can
No you can’t do it without mods, the vanilla game doesn’t allow it. Perhaps on your second run through you will add mods and see what you think. It does give you more freedom to build because you have more settlement allowance. I think it’s good to play a game at least once in vanilla if only to show yourself what you want to mod out!
Why would one start a new play through without the expansions in 2024?
@notablezero8793 I have all the DLCs, just not mods. Its my first time so I'll never use mods on a first run
@@mike-thegamingdad get the Robot SideKick Ada then right AWAY for maximum fun... =)
I know you are not using mods(yet), but since you are willing to use glitches, how do you feel about console commands? You could easily get rid of the rusty car in your river this way.
You just go to the object, open the console, click on it and type "disable". Save your game though since its possible to click on something behind or in front of the car that is invisible(cause bethesdas modeling is messy that way). But if the car dissappears, it was done right.
Edit: I just realized you might be playing on Xbox. I did see you use a joypad, but I assumed for some reason you just prefer to play it like that on PC(some people do). In that case you might consider mods to remove the bushes and the car. "Spring cleaning" mod might be availible on Xbox too. And there is a mod that expandes the settlement borders as well.
Thank you you were correct I'm playing on PC but using a controller. I'm not averse to console commands for some things (I've had to get settlers off the roof a few times when they didn't want to use stairs). I've played a lot of Skyrim so I'm used to having to unglitch NPCs and what not 😂 I'll have a play around with disable thank you!
If you have not...Try Valheim!Fantastic game
Yeah that looks awesome 😁👍🏻
