  • We all wish to sleep peacefully. We tend to get good sleep only after completing the right cycle of sleep.
    The National Sleep Foundation recommends that an adult must sleep between 7-9 hours. So if we take 8 hours of sleep, we will have 4 stages in our sleep cycle. The sleep cycle consists of Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3 and REM (Rapid Eye Movement).
    Phase 1 : Light Sleep
    Phase 2 : Moderate Sleep
    Phase 3 : Deep Sleep, which is the most important as our memory is being processed and our body is getting rejuvenated.
    REM : Where we have dreams.
    These 4 combine into one cycle, and one must complete 4 cycles to have fulfilled a good sleep cycle. We can determine if we have completed the cycle through a sleep study called Polysomnography test.
    Commonly we can test by seeing if we have had 3-4 dreams per night, this does not include nightmares.
    We should always strive to get good sleep as it’s the most important factor in our life.
