Ok, so I was a little confused about this verse where it says, “therefore a man shall leave his father and mother, and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh”. I didn’t know in what contexts “holding fast to my wife” meant. Should I fast or is it a different meaning. I searched it up on google, but I would find the link where it said this quote and was about to go into it, but I had to click on the link and go to the website to read the whole thing. But then on the website it started talking about other verses and I couldn’t find the actual quote that they had under the title of the link. So then I remembered that I am Romanian, and I went to read the verse in Romanian. And it made a lot more sense. Where it says, “a man shall hold fast to his wife”, in Romanian it is, “De acea va lasa omul pe tatal sau si pe mama sa si se val LIPI de nevasta-sa, si cei doi vor fi un singur trup.” So the word, “LIPI” means to stick something. Like with glue. Or it means to touch two things together. Like, “sau lipit unul de celalalt.” They stuck one to another. So it’s literally that meaning of becoming one. You’re stuck together. You both made the vows and agreed to spend your life together as one body.
Also, verse 29. “For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church”. This is going right after it says that we should love our wives as we love our own bodies. We cannot treat them different than how we would treat ourselves. We cannot demand things from them that we would not be ok with being demanded from us. We have to respect their wants and likes just like we respect ours. We don’t like being ignored or wronged by anyone. So we shouldn’t do that under any circumstance to our wives. We cannot, “get back at them” if they’ve done something to us. It’s not, an eye for an eye anymore. We love them, so we need to act like it. I’m not married, but I want to do the right things in the future, so this has been a subject that intrigued me for a while now. I want to have a biblical marriage in the future. And that often times goes against what society deems to be acceptable in a normal secular marriage. Sodomy is very much approved by the secular world. And even by some Christian couples. But we cannot follow what the world instils in our minds. Sodomy has become something to be desired by men. And we cannot go into marriage with those assumptions of what it needs to be like.

If the "mystery" of marriage is hidden in the fact that marriage exemplifies the ultimate marriage between Christ (the Groom) and the Church (bride), then mutual submission can't possibly be sound teaching. One of the problems you'll have with that false teaching (of mutual submission) is: How does Christ submit to the Church? 2. Ephesians 5 is divided into different sections where the Apostle Paul is addressing different themes in the Ephesian Church. Ephesians 5:21 (mutual submission) is not an umbrella for v.22. Up until v.21 he's addressing believers and how we should conduct ourselves in treating one another. It ends with the instruction to submit to one another as believers in general. Then he goes into addressing Christ's relationship with the Church, using the example of marriage. Ephesians 5:22-33 isn't even about marriage, hence v.32. That passage is about Christ and the Church.
Wives should submit to their husband but only if what the husband is wanting aligns with the Bible. The word always trumps everything. For example if the wife is going to church and the husband isn’t. The husband fore bids her to go to church. That is wrong. Her first love is God. Loving and submitting are not mutually exclusive.
