Thank you David for feeding my bees! I live next door to you!
@@stevesoutdoorworld4340 you are welcome. But you know I got to charge you. Lol.
Would like to see more on how you use the OA pads.
I'm using the same exact sugar from Aldis. But I do believe buying the big bags at Walmart maybe cheaper.
Yea that's pretty much accurate.
$5 is today's $1.50
50 lb bags from Amish $38 southern Md
Gardener here…there’s a movement in the garden community to influence/help folks repurpose part of their lawn/yard with attractive native plants…Ive got Mtn Mint, Milkweed, Summersweet, Culvers Root in bloom now. Next year will add Boneset, JoePye weed & Ironweed. If everyone did a portion of lawn, hope that would help you folks in dearth
Like your feeder dude, that's perty cool!
Back in the day when I was bee breeding I got sugar from an ole guy not too far from you up near Lookout Mtn. He got sugar that was rejected after falling off conveyors and sold it in 55 gal drums. Used to pick up 2500 lbs a trip for .10 cents a lb.
Wish I could turn you on to that but the ole boy was 75 years old back then. May not even be with us anymore? He kept up with 500 hives himself. And had 500 head of cattle. Just him and his wife did it all. He was a hoot!
@@beebop9808 its hard to find now like that. Everyone caught on to it. Lol
My bees are working smartweed around my farm pond. Not much else blooming in my area in Texas. Ducks eat it also. I have water Primrose also they’re working. They prefer the smartweed. I don’t think many beekeepers think about water plants as a nectar source. They get plenty of water to produce nectar when everything else is dried up in our triple digit temps.
Walmart here in nc $20 a bag for 25 lbs. rural king has 10 lb bags for $6 and some change . Everywhere else is high around here
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Aren’t you feeding all of the bees in the neighborhood? Can you show us how you do your OA strips?
I'd like to see a video of the OA strips too.
In Pensacola, @Beachinbees is buying it from Greers for 2.30 a 4 lb bag. That's the cheapest we can find it. Works out to be about .60/lb.
I've found line of sight helps and of course distance 😊
Will check there I have been buying at chefs store here .
Sams club granulated Sugar 10 lbs $7.28 Sunrise FL
Walmart is $20 a 25 pound bag. Costco is $18 a 25 pound bag
That bee flying around it cant wait
Walmart here the other day was almost 25.00 for 25 lbs. 1st year it worked great for me, but last year I had a lot of dead bees from drowning.
Walmart for sugar usually, but now I’ll have to try ALDI. I like the outdoor feeding using the buckets, seen one of your videos & I did my own feeder buckets. I have to say for me this is a good way to feed honey bees. Thanks for all the info., always great videos, greetings from Wisconsin🇺🇸👍
Home Depot (Im sure Lowes also) sells a paint mixer that attaches to a drill, cost a few
dollars. Makes mixing so easy.
25lbs. $20.00 plus tax $.40 equals $20.40 BJ's Tidewater of Va.
40 cents on 20 bucks tax.,.,.,REALLY.,.,??
@ Kroger $2.69 a bag of 4lb. Brand is : smart way. Here in Lithonia Georgia
$7.28 for 10lb bag at my closest Sam's in Columbia S.C.
Sams Club Jefferson City MO ...10 lbs is $7.28
Where do you buy the lids for the buckets. All the lids at Lowes and Home Depot I see are all the short ones that the lip of the lid doesn't go up very far like the old school lids I used to see.
👋Hi Dave.😁
😮💨Sorry why would I feed 300 feet from my bees that's long way to walk.🤣Just kidding, thanks for the video Blessed Days, Dave...
I get reject scrap sugar, it's the left overs from shipping. It's kind of cruddy and some times has a bolt so you have to watch out some but it's cheap and the bees don't seem to care. But I think I pay about 20 or 30 cents a pound, but it's scraps.
where do you get that from?
For the month of July restaurant depot had 50 pound bags of sugar for $34.25 here in CT.
That method works great! I just don’t like the amount of bees that drowns in the process! Doing great Dave!!
Here in Abilene, TX, we buy 50# bags for $39.96 at Sam's club.
Huntsville, AL, Rural King, on sale now (7/29/24) $6.49 for 10 lb. bag (regular price $6.99). It is beet sugar, not cane sugar. What I appreciate is that I can pre order it online and RK will load it, on a pallet in my truck. If I pay with my RK credit card, I get an additional 5% discount which brings the cost down to $6.17.
I have 4 colonies. If I feed inside the hive the bees drink about 1 gallon each every 10 days, that is 4 gallons. If I open feed I go through 5 gallons in a couple days. I feel like open feeding is very generous but I am not sure it is more economical for my situation.
costco in springfield missouri 50 pound bag for $32.99. where did you get the black screw on lid?
We have a couple Smart & Final stores in my area of California that sells 50 lb. Bags for $33
Rural King , Crossville TN - 10lb for $6.49
Lucky you, if you are struggling with a the prices I'm struggling to find sugar. There is a shortage of sugar in my country.
I had to use a honey frames from strong hives to save the small ones.
Is there any other way than sugar to feed the bees?
it costs more for the sugar cane to grow. lol
walmart sugar is made from beet pulp, there was a question about bees not digesting this as easy as pure cane, 80 cents a pond in asheville,
No Aldi"s in Maine. We get 25 lbs for $20.99 at BJ's.
Aldi in Pennsylvania is the same price. 25lb bag at Walmart is $19.98
In Nova Scotia Canada I can get it for 3.50 for 2kg bag there was a sale at Walmart for 1.50 a bag
In Arkansas at Walmart is $8:00 for a 10.00 for a 10# bag
Walmart on Vancouver Island, Canada, has sugar on sale for $1.99 Can. for 2 kg. It is the cheapest price that I have found over the last month.
Kentucky I give $16.99 Kroger & $19.99 at Walmart.
Store brand Sugar
Wal mart for about $13.00 for 25 pounds.
Kroger in North East TN 16.25 for 25lb bag sugar
$3.14 4lbs bag. 19.97 25lb bag. At Walmart. Sam’s club has 10lbs $7.28. These are cheapest prices I’ve found in West Virginia
I live in the Flint River ( 30 miles south of Atlanta,Georgia ) swamp area and the swamp has thousands of wild hives that will most likely drink 90% of my sugar water .
Would it be advisable to use small round feeders ( inside of the hives ) that have a small entrance cut out of a screen entrance reducer ?
I noticed you were using granulated sugar. Is it ok to use any granulated sugar? Or does it have to be Pure Cane?
$17 and change for the 25 lb bag at costco
Don’t remember the price but here in central Virginia Aldi is the cheapest
Walmart 25pounds 20$ were do you get the lids at
How the heck do u keep those screw on lids from leaking? I bought several different ones from different places, they all leaked around the screw in insert. I changed to the spouted lids and they don’t leak at all, just refill with a battery powered gas siphon pump through spout.
I know for sure someone else’s bees that live quite a ways would not transfer one-to-one sugar mix because it’s not worth the flight energy wize😂
So boiling isn't required to make this mix? For 10+ years I've boiled water on my stove to make sugar water (either 1:1 or 2:1).
If you have a business, you can buy direct from sugar brokers
Costco had 25 lb bags for 17 dollars Michigan
25# bag for 20$ at Sam's Club Lynchburg, Va.
Sams club is 86 cents a pound for domino pure cane sugar 10 and 25 pound bags
$20 for 25lb bag at Sam's College Station,Texas.
Why do not you add lemon to reduce the sugar PH?
I gave $20 for 25 lb of sugar at Walmart in Hugo, Oklahoma
$32 for 50lb at my local Amish store.
I bought a 20lb bag at Walmart for $20.00
I get sugar from sams 40.00 50lbs
#25 bags cheapest in Kent WA at Costco
At Walmart it is cheaper per pound to get the 4 lb bags instead of the 25 lb bag.... doesn't seem right to me
Sam's Club 25 lb bag $17.00.
costco 50lb $32
$19.86 for 25 lbs
$6.49 for 10# rual king
I think he meant one bag not five bags
It is five bags. Half sugar half water.
If you have 10 hives or more and you're not buying 55 gal grums for ~$170 each at the side of a railroad station, you're wrong. Ask around and find them. People buy sugar by the barrel and sell. About 80 gal. 1:1 That's $2.15/gal syrup. Whoever said bee keeping is the poor man's hobby or job must've been a snob? Who has time for all that mixing, even with only 10 hives, a gallon is gone in a day or two. For 5 gal buckets, the easiest for me is about 3/5ths full of sugar, backfill and mix in essential oils. Done in 5 minutes.
You save in bulk, not 4# bags.
Dave, Keep going. You're doing great. Just offering alternatives.
I like the 25lb bags. The barrel sounds annoying to deal with.
@georgetaylor9154 You open it, fill your bucket a little over half, close it. No bags, no trash, store outside, no multiple trips to walmart. helluva lot cheaper. Just give much better options for people at all levels. That's ~16 x 5 gal buckets.
@@SergeantMajorH sounds messy as hell tho. I empy my 25 lb bags into a mixing tank that had a nice ball valve on the bottom. How would one go about transferring the syrup from this sugar drum? ( in a clean methon)
@@georgetaylor9154 it's dry sugar buddy
@@SergeantMajorH um yeah i got that, pal.
