Not exactly the safest way to cut splits. I own one of the largest firewood companies in the South and have two Super Splitters (commercial grade kinetic versions of same style you have) and I'd never allow any of my employees to keep their hand in front of the ram as it's moving forward. While we run a significant volume (about 150 cords a week) and the chances are we'll have issues more often than you the main point is you will have issues eventually. Those splitters are notoriously dangerous and have a tendency to "kick" wood. When that happens you've got no idea what direction that piece of is going to go and where your hand will go if you happen to be holding onto it. We've be fortunate enough not to have anything more than a few bruises from flying wood but one of my fellow producers in TX has had several severed fingers. I've got a Bonfire sized Solo and we use pizza splits 8" cuts that work great. Not sure I'd use the smaller version except maybe for camping and smores but I might get one to give it a shot.
    Be safe.

Thanks for the comment. I just bought a Huskee 20 ton hydrolic . I agree, this isn’t the best splitter for smalls ! What’s the name of your company? Sounds like you’re doing really well, congratulations!
