    I have used the 256 for 3 years, it is very similar to the 260. I recently purchased a Millermatic 255 Without the cart, then I built my own cart. The 255 has many advantages like pulse mig witch helps with out of position welds, the MDX mig gun is superior, It also does a very nice spray mig weld when using C-10 gas and pulsed spray.

    The Lincoln 260 sure does Weigh more but it doesn’t come with a pulsing waveform for gmaw, it’s duty cycle isn’t as good and it can only do one process. Not sure why a cart and the weight of a machine makes it the better option.

    I'm a Miller guy .. Went into my welding supply store today to buy another one . Absolutely shocking I walked out with the 260 power mig. I bought it to be a Stainless machine. had it up and running in 15 minutes burned all day clean and clear all day ... Shout out to Haun Welding Supply Betavia NY ... Great guys there.

      Wait, you bought a short circuit machine when you had the option to buy a pulse machine for stainless. You’ll spend more on high content helium tri-mix and get tons of spatter. Oh well, I guess the machine was far less expensive. I shook my head while watching this video start to finish.

    The gas bottle doesn't tilt forward for stability with the welder attached to the running gear. It tilts forward for two reasons.
    1. It's for stability if you have the gas bottle attached to the running gear and you remove the welder from the running gear. It keeps the cart stable without requiring the weight of the welder.
    2. Leaning the bottle forward keeps the gas bottle from rocking back slightly if you pull your cart forward and the bottle isn't snugged down with a ratchet strap.
    The lincoln 260 is a very good machine. Just looked at one yesterday and almost mated with it. One feature I like is the 110v power plug on the front. I wish Miller did that. I think I'm going with the 255 though for two reasons.
    1. It can pulse mig and if you do your research, you'll know the advantages of pulse mig. It opens up a whole new world.
    2. For about $300 more dollars I can go from a Millermatic 255 to a Multimatic 255. Now you can run mig, pulse mig, stick and DC tig on one machine.
    I will most likely mod my cart so that the door hinges and has cable supports for the door. After all, we're all welders so what's a little welding and painting?
    As for the tranformer vs inverter thing, I think both will be good and reliable. Transformer may last a little longer. Inverter will have a little better duty cycle and use much less electricity to operate.
    If I could have any machine it would be the Lincoln 360MP. Looks just like the 260 but is Pulse and multi process. Its the real competitor to the multimatic 255. But at $1,750 more than the multimatic 255, I'll go miller. $5,200 is just insane. And I like that I can remove the miller from the running gear; load it on my truck and run it off my miller trailblazer if needed. I'm not a miller fanboy by any means. My first welder was a lincoln 180 Dual. Still have and I'll never sell it. I care about the brand's reputation for a good, reliable product and customer service which Lincoln and Miller both have. I look at capability. And I look at price because I'm not a rich man.
    I think you made a good choice. That 260 is a fine machine and I can only hope to one day have something approaching that. I just noticed your main criticism being the cart stability and I just wanted to respectfully correct what you said and state the true reason for the bottles tilting forward. Congrats on the purchase. You'll likely kill over before that beast does.

      My Lincoln 180 finally but the dust. Not totally. It can just only run .035 wire now and you have to have it burning pretty hot. So no thin stuff. I can’t complain. It’s kept up with almost commercial use for 8 years and it wasn’t built for that. I just ordered the Miller Multimatic 255. I’m so excited!!! I also forgot to add a third reason why I went with the Miller because I plan on doing lots of mig and pulse mig. You need 85/10 mixture or better for pulse mig and spray arc. Regular mig is 75/25 or 80/20. The 255 has a 90/10 setting for pulse and spray but can also run regular mig process on 90/10 as well. No other welder can do that. That’s huge because that’s one less bottle I have to buy and I don’t have to change bottles between pulse mig and reg mig.

    I bought the 260, good machine, sold my ESAB, it was a good machine just a little light for what I do.

    I have the 255 (mig version). After rebates the cart wasn't that expensive. The cart is MUCH heavier duty than it looks in the photos. Yes, the lack of hinges can be annoying. My Dynasty 200DX is also inverter and hasn't been an issue, so I figured I would take the latest technology. I also like the fact that it's field upgradeable with firmware. I haven't used pulse yet, but it's nice to have it.

      MIG Pulse on the Miller 255 is supposed to be awesome, I think you made a great choice! The sound it makes is freaky, but so are the deep clean welds.

    My experience is Lincoln don't give a shit about their customers. I had to file a complaint with the BBB to get them to replace a problem machine with 6 warranty repairs in 2.5 years.

    Nice review. After smoking a little Miller 150 stl inverter with maybe 200 hours on it, I'm sticking to the transformer machine myself.. This lincoln may be my next one..

    Is that guy welding with sandals and no socks? 😆 Those welds look very good, but did you crosscut and polish any to check the actual penetration and fusion depth in both parts? MIG Pulse can provide superior results in those areas.

    But you can Tig and Stick weld with the Miller 255. So the additional cost is justified if you go with it. $400 is high for a cart, but fortunately if you are buying a welder just maybe you might be able to build your own cart. I think I have about $75 in the cart I built for my old Miller 211. He is also incorrect about the Tig welding on the 255, you can get a Thumb or foot pedal for it, not just scratch start. That all being said, I am in the market for a new Mig and it will either be the Lincoln 256 or 260.

      Theres 2 different 255`s the one i showed is mig only...He did build his own cart for the TIG...Cooler and plasma cutter...By no mean`s am i putting down the miller i have a 1986 Millermatic 200 still an awesome machine...The video was made for my friends to show what my son bought and why..Both great machines but this was a better choice for him starting off

  • @shawnduck1234

    Ones a standard mig machine ones a pulse machine. The Miller is the superior machine. To not know that makes this video void.

  • @thenetwerx

    You make some good points and observations. This looks like a solid package right from the hop without having to buy or assemble the cart. That being said, you can do a lot more with the Miller (TIG, Stick, PULSE), so it's not exactly and apples to apples comparison between machines. Pulse may be a trend right now, but an awful lot of people, particularly in auto body repair are getting superior results from it. What is your intended use that your filling with the Lincoln?

    Both Miller and Lincoln have great reputations. I completely agree with your comparison. My Lincoln 180 has never knock on wood , let me down. I am not sure being an inverter is a problem though. Many older commercial truck welders are also inverters and generate Electricity as well as welding. I don't like all the electronic boards though, just more to break.

    • @homotorsports
      @homotorsports  5 лет назад

      My choice was the Millermatic 252....I find it hard to believe these newer welders with all the electronics will still be up and going for the long haul like the older machines...The goal is to make as much money in the first 5 years as you can

    was going to get the 260 Lincoln over the 255 because it was on the floor however miller spool gun will not run on a red machine and replacing that spool gun is a much bigger deal than a few hundred dollar cart. but it was well know when I bought mine the carts was sold seperate . You got a good generator and you have a mobile mig welder with the 255 if you need it

    What is the difference between an inverter and a transformer ? I have a Lincoln power mig 180 C and I am looking to upgrade into a little bigger machine .

    • @homotorsports
      @homotorsports  5 лет назад +1

      A transformer has power in and through different windings you get different power out...an inverter is an electronic device that changes your out put voltage...they both have pro`s and con`s....the Lincoln uses a transformer and electronic`s thats why it`s 250lb`s...some machines use an inverter as well as electronic`s thats why there 80lbs...My Millermatic 200 is a 1986 transformer machine....we bought a ESAB Rebel inverter machine lasted 2 welds and fried....He is very satisfied with the 260 i think it`s well worth the money....

    $400 for a fricken cart? Come on now. How can you compete when you don't even cover the basics!!! Electronics can be repaired like anything else. As long as neither one cheated out on inferior components, there should be no difference Electronics wise.
