Loved the video guys. Some very nice comfort food there indeed. We absolutely love cooking in our motorhome also and love trying to come up with new ideas as to what can be done in a van also. It is possible to cook delicious flavoursome food with a little imagination. Keep safe. Irvine & Karen.
Great ideas, I’ll be trying some of those. We bought a T5 camper last year & have only had one night stays so far. I’ve been organising the plastic storage boxes & stocking up for a few days away soon. We’re hoping to visit Anglesey for the first time. Thank you for your videos, very informative & inspiring. X
I think it was Richards favourite Christmas present! And invaluable when we were in the Alps in January, we couldn't believe how much condensation we vacuumed off the windows each morning - moisture that would have just lingered in the van!
Karcher Window Vac is great for clearing condensation, so quick Ventilation is also crucial but like you already know condensation whilst booking is inevitable. Spear & Jackson also make a window Vac, Home Bargains stock them
An idea for staying warm in bed, if you don't like putting the van heating on overnight is a lidl heated underblanket. Can be used on site or from an ecoflow wild camping. We use one, it is toasty and hardly uses any power !
Thanks. The one thing we don’t get is cold at night in bed, mainly I think because the duvalay memory foam mattress retains the body heat so we don’t use the heater at all. Waking up in the morning however at -4 degrees last week was a little nippy on our noses when we woke up!
Some great ideas in your video although personally I would cut the carbs by half for us as we do like walking but not for such long walks as you. In our motorhome we always aim for a one pot meal. Thanks for the reminder of how good a dish can be with added chorizo! I'm with Richard on one thing - nothing good about porridge ;-) Ann
Try a Remoska oven. It’s low watt reverse oven (the element is in the lid - looks like a pressure cooker) Comes in 2 sizes, we have the small one as it’s just the two of us like you - it’s the size of a standard saucepan. Can even do an entire roast chicken meal in it! Worth getting the recipe book for it. Only about 400watts! We wouldn’t be without it!
WINTER FOOD We try to pack a precooked Beef Casserole, Chilli, Spaghetti Bol that we freeze in sealed containers. No need to put in the fridge, just wrap them in a towel and store in the back of the Van. Microwave Packet Rice is also brilliant, break up and add to your Chicken Chorizo mix with a little Chicken stock. Will cook faster with less condensation Happy Camping
They are all our favourite foods that we batch cook and have in the freezer ready to pack. We just leave them in the sink with the lid down to defrost while we travel. Hope you have some nice trips planned in the coming months?
With a pop top, with the side nets open, condensate readily escapes, making it no problem cooking in the van. if it makes it colder just put the webasto on ! If you haven't got a pop top, you can open the two front Windows a crack, covered by the wind deflectors, then set the webasto fan on ventilation and adjust the fan speed to the speed you require to send the steam out of the two front widows, that you have cracked open. Again if it is too cold put the diesel heater heat on. This is the principle of an enironvent system used in a house, to provide a positive air pressure to drive out damp air though the inevitable cracks in windows etc. around the home to the outside, from air sourced, from within the dry loft space but adapted to a van.
We had not looked at it that way we will try having the heater on with the cracked open windows when we are skiing with a karcher window vac as back up!
Great video, as always. Really enjoy watching you and the tips you give. I’m not able to leave food in our van as we have just caught 5 mice recently. Used human traps and peanut butter.
I came here because I had a feeling that people don't cook in their expensive vans. I have seen lots of people in caravans and like and they have never used the oven or hob! Which got me thinking, do you need all this stuff? Seems a very British thing (I'm British), I'd love a van but I'm thinking I would be spending a ton of money for stuff I won't use. You two certainly do cook in your van and don't seem that bothered about smells and grease and stuff. Fair play to you both, you must be a super solid couple to be together 29 and live in van. I commend you. So, I'm after a bit of advice. I'd love a van that I could go away for a weekend or so, something thst I could turn the seats round and sit at a table. What do you recommend?
There are so many different van options out there. We love our T6 as it drives like a car, can pretty much go anywhere and is our cozy little home away from home. We are looking at a larger van for our next van, but probably no longer than 5.5m for the reasons above. We love cooking together and is one of our shared loves. In winter it can be a bit of a pain cooking inside, but nothing that puts us off. We just love a night of cooking! In the summer, it's never a problem as we rarely cook inside, instead we use the Cadac for most things. The one thing that we rarely use in the van is the sink. We could honestly do without it, as we only use it as a water supply and we wash up in a bowl as the sink is too small! Hope this helps. Enjoy your search. R
www.nordicoutdoor.co.uk/light-my-fire-bio-grandpas-firefork-bio-2pk/ Hopefully this should work. We bought them in the Nordic store in Keswick. This is a link to their online store
Regarding Goretex, i used it because of it's name and because of it's advertised 'breathing' quality, supposedly superior to all others. The fact of the matter is yes, it is breathable and yes it is water proof but not at the same time, which kind of defeats the point ? Because of this, In wet conditions, a normal waterproof garment is just as good allegedly and oodles cheaper.
My cookers on a slide out drawer at the back of the Kombi, so I'd freeze my tits off cooking under the tailgate. (but no steam ups) I do have a small Zipboil for quick cuppas' though.

Thanks, hope you are enjoying Florida 😊
Porridge is lovely with honey and fruit and a bit of museli ❤
I love porridge… Richard is persevering 🤣 I love it with frozen raspberries and blueberries stewed into a compote and honey to sweeten 🥣

Anglesey is fab with loads of long beaches - have a great trip and fingers crossed for good weather 🚐
Thank you for reply. It sounds great, can’t wait to go.
Great episode guys
Thank you x
@@earlyretirementwanderlust your welcome 🙏
Another vote for the window vac, we use one in our motor home.

I think Santa is bringing Richard a window vac 🤣 how exciting!!

Food looked yummy 👍
Thank you. Just looking for more inspiration for a wider variety of meals for our winter trip skiing 🚐

🤣 he is really trying to persevere with the porridge 🥣 but it’s not for him!
Same food we cook in the van too 😂. But we use fresh pasta as it cooks in 4 mins 😊. Stay safe.
Yes we use the fresh stuffed pastas a lot for speed (and loveliness) happy travels x

Small slow cooker is your friend. Put it on in the morning and done when you get home. If off grid then I use the ecoflow.
Could be useful when skiing as we are on hook up all the time. It’s just finding space in the van 🤣

Oh no 😬 no signs in the van as of yet but something I will look out for 😮 🐁 thank you for watching the vlogs ☺️

We like one pot garlic chicken, we got the recipe off BBC good food web site, definitely worth a bash 👍
Ooh that sounds good, I will have a look. We are always up for new recipes 🫕
Hi would it be possible to post a link to the Marshmallow toaster fork as we have tried to find it but have failed 😣 Many thanks.

🥶 that would have been cold this last week cooking! But great in the summer and more space for you in the van 🚐
