- I've been waiting for EX to be released ever since I saw the first preview of it 2 years ago. It had a lot of amazing art creators listed, and the theme was clearly very distinct and unique compared to other themed art levels I had seen. Now, a few years later, the lineup has changed a bit, and the theme has definitely been explored a bit more, but it's still hype to see this finished finally.
In terms of detail in both art and glow usage, some parts in this are unparallelled. Some examples are 0:29, 0:51, and 1:13. Sure, some megacollabs have had a part here or there that stands out this much, but that's kinda the story of the majority of this level. I can definitely see why some would find this a bit too detailed at times. Even if you do, though, you have to appreciate the time and effort put into this. The way the huge amount of different details are colored is also insane. Pausing at 0:38, for example, gives a good view of that. The color scheme and art fits perfectly for this level's theme, which is described as a "bioluminescent fantasy forest" by ILRELL. I think everyone involved did a good job with that in mind.
As for the gameplay, well, we'll see how it's received once it's out. The entire layout was made by ILRELL, and he says it will probably be on the Extended List. A concern is that the big amount of details could be a distraction when playing, leading to a worse experience, and some people could experience lag as well. This was optimized by LViper, who did the best he could considering the circumstances, so let's hope it's not that bad now. Special thanks to him for providing the footage for this showcase as well. If all goes well, you should see this released in Geometry Dash soon. MrSpaghetti will be verifiying it.

Some new replacement parts and some big changes from what I remembered previously. It seems a bit messier, but still good nonetheless.
Arachnus’ part is my favorite. That’s the definition of life in a part. Xender and Lia have a nice conclusion part as well. The ultrasonic looking part (Pen) before Xender is kinda funny, but that’s ok lol
God I commented about this on the Hardline video. That was 7 months ago. Ilrell said there was one part left. Glad this is finally coming out after all that time. I’m hyped.

Nearly perfect level. The only critique I can think of is maybe change the color palette of sminx to match the level (designs in her part are great tho) and maybe make penta's part less dark. Penta's part is actually incredible but it looks a lot more lazy than it actually is because half of the details of his part are so dark you can't actually see it in gameplay.

Masterpiece
Man as much as the good parts rock I just cant bring myself to be a huge fan of this. The good parts are literally some of the best ever but alongside those are plenty of very average looking parts, nothing was at all bad, just a huge quality difference.
Even if the entire level looked as good as the best parts, I also feel like the hosting for this level could have been better. There was basically no thematic progression, and if there was, it wasnt noticeable. Plenty of mixed styles between parts and the level just kind of blurs by instead of taking advantage of its theme and allowing for more of a world to be established, plenty of parts do a great job of building their own worlds but the level as a whole doesnt do much for the theme.
Just a tad disappointed with the outcome, I already saw all the best parts ages ago and I was hoping seeing it all come together would be really cool but I guess having seen all the best parts already it just felt a bit underwhelming as a whole. Still a very good level, just could have been better.

honestly I think every part is really solid in terms of technical composition. Sminx would be 10x better with a simple color change, penta would be 10x better with a brighter background (so you can actually see it) and maybe custom blocks, sequex would be 10x better with more glow. The only really disappointing part I felt was drag, given that he's one of the most talented creators of 2.1 and the closest successor to hotocot in gd -- he absolutely could have done far better. The execution of the level is rock-solid in every part, it's just there were some very peculiar stylistic choices that made some parts *look* a lot more underwhelming that they actually are.
In terms of the hosting, I am pretty sure it's issues were because it was supposed to be hosted by sequex, and then sequex quit or smth and ilrell took over. Ilrell imo is like the Harold Bloom of gd, which is both a good thing and a bad thing -- he has an uncanny ability to discover and pick out creators with incredible technical mastery of the editor, hence why creators like drag747 and nycto are in here, but it also means that for most of his megacollabs, ilrell mainly picks creators based more on how good they are in creating rather than how well they fit into the actual level. That works for collabs meant to be a smorgasbord of incredible technical ability like pointzero, but is ...uhh...questionable for a themed level.

This is very well worded, couldnt agree more with a lot of what you said. I absolutely agree that some of the parts that fall flat are definitely great parts but the problem is that in a megacollab a part cant just be good on its own. The context within levels matters a lot and by having such a strange contrast in styles it makes the non art parts feel extremely underwhelming just from a subconscious view. Its like if youre looking at an amazing waterfall but right next to it is some big tech company headquarters, its probably pretty cool on its own but it simply does not fit the style of the environment, and in GD context, it doesnt fit the world being established by the other parts.
Not to say that Im a perfect host, but I do believe that by giving a megacollab a storyboard for how to progress parts and slowly build a world it is far more effective than grabbing a group of talented creators and letting them pick a part of a song and build to some vague theme. Its almost always a problem when a solo has parts that dont fit together at all but for some reason in megacollabs thats just an expected trait of them. Levels are about context and making the most out of the full length rather than be a compilation of a bunch of pretty cool individual parts.
I do think theres levels that pull off the random parts really well, but again, its about context. Theres a lot of effect levels that are just a bunch of random parts thrown together into a level that I love to death, but of course within the context of such an elaborate theme like this one its just not a method that works at all.
All the creators did a great job! Just as a host myself I am extremely disappointed that there was essentially no creative direction with the level as a whole, which is what I think the hosts main job should be.

alright ill be honest i think overall this is a very solid level, but it looks extremely unpolished in some places. some parts also dont feel like they work the best together, however xender game's part literally blew my mind away. it really shows the realistic style done right.
