      Reference your merch order link, have ordered Like five shirts and given a couple away. Throwback ness and Just be a good human. I have gotten positive comments all over the world when wearing them. Good quality and comfortable T’s. I am 60 and my youngest 27 year old daughter likes them. Great for all ages. Thumbs up for quality and delivery, I wear 2X and they are sized well.

      I prefer studio versions rather than live. In the studio they can achieve a level of perfection that never seems to be replicated live. Unless of course you are listening to Lynard Skynyrd.

    "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" is, arguably, Elton John's hardest rock song.
    This live version is a sad version.
    It's a shame you can't react to the original.

      The studio version has kind of a gritty edge to it, which is appropriate for the song, and the way I prefer it. This wasn't bad, but I do like the simplicity of the radio version.

  • @Robert44444444
    @Robert44444444 2 года назад +21

    Bad decision more often than not to choose 'live performance' (there are rare exception). With Elton John in particular, Elton's studio recordings of his work in the 70s are masterpieces and Elton lost his multi-million dollar voice by the end of '86 and had to sing nearly all his hits thereafter 'differently' because the voice he had was gone forever. Being a true talent, he adapted & developed another singing voice he could use for new material going forward, but forget about him singing the classic material in a way that would resemble what you know him to be able to do.
    You still haven't heard Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting… you'll need to hear the recording from the '73 album for that.

    • @colinvandenberg3446
      @colinvandenberg3446 2 года назад +2

      I think it's more important that the videos stay up. He can hear the studio versions on his own time. In any case, the studio version of "Candle in the Wind " lacks the necessary energy that the "Live from Australia" version provides.

    • @Robert44444444
      @Robert44444444 Год назад

      @@colinvandenberg3446 - I disagree, Elton John's studio recordings very the very best of the era… especially (although not exclusively) when it comes to his vocals. "Candle in the Wind" from GYBR is of much higher quality than the "Live from Australia" version.

    This was at the Royal Opera House in 2002, and it was a good performance, but my favorite live performance over the years was from his legendary 1980 concert in Central Park. It was closer in time to the original release of course, and had more of the power and feel of the studio version. It had the added benefit of his outrageous outfits too. The guitarist here, I believe, is Davey Johnstone, who was the original guitarist on many of Elton's earlier albums including Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. He first played with Elton on Madman Across the Water, and became a full-time member of Elton's band starting with Honkey Chateau.

    When I hear this song, I close my eyes and imagine a crazy bar fight. Some drunk dude punches another dude and knocks him into the juke box. Then this song comes on. The fight gets crazier. At the end cops come in and everybody is knocked out cold. Some bodies are on the floor, some on the bar and one dude is half stuck in a trash can. Blood, liquor and broken furniture and glass everywhere.

    As others have said you should really listen to the studio version. The vocals are sooo much better with a wider range from Elton's voice some 40 or so years earlier than this version. The guitar part is a biting sound of this song but totally drowned out in the background of this live version. Great to see Davey Johnstone on guitar and Nigel Olsen on drums that were there for the great ride in the 70's and missing Dee Murray that passed some years ago.

    The original, off of the double album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, is a must-review. It's a multi-tracked Davey Johnstone guitar attack & features the original and best Elton John Band. The rest that came later is just Las Vegas Revue Schlock. The lyrics by Bernie Taupin describe what Saturday nights were like in late 50's Britain's pubs. The piano track was laid down separately while Elton then jumped around his band mates in the studio, screaming out the lyrics, while they played their hearts out and producer Gus Dudgeon preserved went down for posterity, behind the control board.

    The bar fight is exactly what Bernie Taupin was talking about through these lyrics because as he said(these may not be his exact words but they convey the gist of what he said) Saturday nights went out to a bar got drunk with your mates and ended up in a fight. The entire Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album is a classic worth having in your music collection. There are just some albums that are so great as a complete collection that yes there are great songs but no songs will let you down.

It wasn't the beer bottles as much as it was the heavy glass mugs, pool balls, and cue sticks. Most of the time it was about a quarter on the pool table, no doubt many people can relate to that.

    Here's an idea that just popped into my head. There is a song on the Good-Bye Yellow Brick Road album called, "Candle In The Wind". The lyrics are an homage to Marilyn Monroe written by Elton John's longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin. The very first line: "Good-bye Norma Jeane..." refers to Marilyn's birth name Norma Jeane Baker. In 1997 Elton and Bernie rewrote the lyrics in honour of Diana, Princess of Wales after she was killed in an automobile accident in Paris. At her funeral, held in Westminster Abbey on 6 Sept 1997, Elton John performed the rewritten "Candle In The Wind 1997" live on international television. Sometimes called "Good-bye England's Rose", it is a beautiful tribute to a beloved friend. A back-to-back reaction or even if you'd do a reaction to each one individually I think you'd like both versions.

    Now, you have to back up and listen to "Your Sister Can't Twist (but she can rock and roll)" followed immediately by this song of the Yello Brick Road album. One of the best one two punches ever.
    BTW, I understand the copyright issues and why live recordings can be easier to get on RUclips but this version has about 1/10th the energy of the studio album version.

    Original studio cut is much more guitar-driven and much better to my ear. Check it out for your own enjoyment, it's a banger!

    One of my favorite songs, from a favorite album growing up. As a “proto-punk” (angry little girl with a chip on her shoulder) this song was a bit of an anthem. Also doesn’t the opening of this live version remind you of Gloria by L. Brannigan?!
