This Chanel I feel has help guide me down my path. Not only do you give your best interpretation of your beliefs, but also acknowledge that different people practice different ways. Thank you for not trying to use your platform to be an authority. Thank you for your help.
I'm so pleased to have found this! I named my little pure white, blue eyed kitten Baldr. He is the loveliest, most beautiful little soul and has brought me so much joy! This video warmed my heart! Hail Baldr! ♥️
I really like your take on Baldr and the Interview with your friend. Good to see others who are interested in the God of light (although I always imagined him with black hair and green eyes). I think the reason for hin beeing killed with a mistletoe could hint to the Winter solstice when It's the darkest time in the northern hemisphere and mistletoe is a plant with berries ripening in winter. Beautiful Song!
Also Mistletoe was regarded as magical…it grew on a tree and so was of the earth…but had its roots and existence in the air and so was of the sky. It spanned two separate worlds and so was something…other. There is a deeper mythology here than the exterior of Baldr’s story. Further, if Loki is the ‘bad guy’ why does he place Baldr beyond the events of Ragnorok, safe in a place where he is treated with honour, at the ultimate cost to himself? Loki is not Lucifer, Baldr is not Christ (despite Snorri Sturlsson’s efforts…), the story is more complex.
Really glad to see Baldur getting some love. It was his wife Nanna that reached out to me in my darkest moments and brought me to Norse Paganism, and eventually this beautiful community.
@Freki Bodgaedir From what I know in the sagas, Hel is not married in Norse Mythology. Baldur’s wife is the Goddess Nanna, who is the Goddess of peace, love, and a Goddess of the Moon. In the stories she threw herself on Baldur’s funeral pyre out of grief to be burned with him
Great video did not disappoint. Was just listening to gealdyr this morning. Baldurs story is also one of my favorites and one of the most interesting mysteries is what Odin whispered into Baldur's ear after his death. I love the version of this story in Amon Amarth's Hermod's ride to Hel. Quality work bróđir!
Having known Baldur's tale and his death I was always uncertain whether he was actually reachable at all being a "dead" god, he seems like a wonderful deity to be in contact with. The info in this vid is quite reassuring.
Thank you for this video, it has to be my new favorite of yours. I truly felt the emotion and veneration of Baldur here. PS: The way you handle those interactions when folks walk into your video is hilariously boss. Haha, skal my friend.
Fun fact when I was recording the vocal prayer. There was a completely different couple sitting on the other side of the pillar. I just said “fuck it” 😂
Thank you for this Jacob! I am taking notes on all of the deities and your videos were suggested to me by my mother, and they are perfect for notes! Skål!
Thank you for making these videos, I became a Norse pagan awhile ago (Maybe a year?) I should re-watch the Young Norse pagan video because I didn't have enough time to watch it fully
idk why but swans & especially geese are really projecting Frigga energy to me, so it's interesting to see them in the background of the video on her son
You are doing great work Jacob brother I believe I am on a path to healing my self I am learning a lot from lord Odin I have been blessed with so much greater wisdom and knowledge I always be a very proud Norse and I am a very proud heathen from Dublin Ireland skal all hail the true god's on till lord Odin's great hall skal my brother
Thank you for your videos. I have been trying to research on my possible ancestry and their beliefs and I came across your channel by chance. I think I have found my path after watching your videos
Funny thing about beauty it is different in different places. between the time that I started to watch this video and it ended an amazing monsoon storm, that lit the sky with lightening every few seconds, and brought down a lot rain rolled in. I live in the desert in the South West of the US. So, this is a true bit of beauty in the desert.
I know this is unrelated to the topic of your video but I just wanted to say thank you because soon I will be starting my norse pagan journey building my personal connection with the mighty wolf Fenrir, I do not seek him out for his hate for odin but for his strength and perseverance to succeed through trying times, once more i thank you for being the guiding hand to begin this marvelous journey. until the hall SKAL!!!
As someone who has been in the faith for almost 10 years and someone who works with Fenrir, I have no problem saying that he is not for those just starting the faith and that you should start with gods like Thor or Freyr.
Ive just joined into paganism. Not even 2 months into this I was called outside by baldr where the sunlight hit me an I was frozen in place an was covered in goosebumps. Thank you baldr for revealing to me that this is the correct path I've chosen for myself.
When I connect with Buldr I often do my offering talk to him and or meditate for some time near sunrise and do so for not a fixed amount of times but the amount of times it takes for the sun to come over the trees and shine brightly or if it’s a cloudy day until the sun comes out of the clouds to shine brightly, could be 15 minutes could be 90 minutes. Then after that I wrap it up
I’ve been in the Christian community for awhile now and I’ve been watching your videos lately and I’m more curious about this religion. I’m quite done with the Christian community (Pentecost community) I’ve realized just over this past year that they are very judgmental and nothing but hypocrites and was curious if you and the community can maybe guide me on this path and help me to see if this is the right path for me.
One theory that I've heard about Baldr and Loki is that since Loki is often portrayed as an agent of change -for good or ill- , he was unhappy that the Aesir had disrupted the natural flow of life and death on Baldr's behalf. Considering how Hel responded to the request to bring him back, I find it to be a compelling speculation. Also, thank you for introducing us to another wonderful musician, I always love finding new music to listen to!
A few points to answer your valid question: 1) Change is ugly and terrifying to someone fighting against it. We walk one path only to be tricked by a road block onto another path. There's no inherent morality in change or chaos. it's just a part of the natural world. I know this because I work in mental health. The biggest cheat code for mental health I could give is that control is an illusion. With Baldr, the gods wanted control over the natural cycle of life. Could Loki have just been petty or jealous? Maybe. Could he have been angry the gods were subverting the natural order of things? Maybe. Death and destruction are his offspring, after all. 2) While there's no widespread historical evidence of Loki's worship, there's no historical evidence that he was universally hated either. Some historians actually theorize that he was originally a localized god of the hearth, and that's where his association with fire came from. The point is, he can be different things to different people. I put forward one hypothesis I'd seen that I found corresponded with my understanding of Loki and his mythos. 3) Remember that the sagas and eddas were written down by Christians trying to preserve a culture they were a good century or so removed from. We don't really know what the oldest tales were beyond what Snorri and the Romans saw fit to record. These stories carry the biases of the storyteller, whether they meant to or not. 4) This comment is a year old. Since then, I've come to understand that -for me- the gods are not wholly represented in their myths. They are beings that exist outside the mythos as well, and these stories are not meant to be taken as literally as they have been in many cases. I came to a harsh realization that taking these stories literally and putting the figures in them into these rigid boxes was a by-product of being raised in a fundamentalist christian setting and was something I needed to deconstruct. To reiterate, your interpretation is valid for you. I just wanted to answer your question and explain the way I see things. Hope this satisfies your curiosity! Learning to work with Loki has done me personally a lot of good, but I know he's not everyone's horn of mead as it were.
Thanks to the show 'the all mighty Johnsons' I Also see baldr as a god of rebirth us it a drama that nitpick what it needs to fill the drama how it wants? Oh obsolutely but also brings certain gods in a different light too. A good watch is my opinion
This is funny... I was reading about Baldr last night, woke up, and it's right here! Is Baldr talking to me??? Last night I also was dreaming about the gods(I feel that is more intuned with the late-night reading)
Real shame there isn’t more info available about Baldr, though you presented everything very well. Would you say any one part of Germany is better (in terms of history and/or community) for a Norse Pagan to visit? Any sites we know we can associate with the Gods? Thanks!
I am a devoted patreon of baldr whatever his true form is whatever his original state was I am a patreon to that archetype that personality. Hail to baldr!!
Would you be interested in hearing about my UPG on him? Baldr is actually the reason I became a heathen and the dream I had was pretty interesting, at least I think so lol
There's an in-depth discussion of Baldr's death in Stephan Grundy's God In Flames, God In Fetters: Loki's Role in the Northern Religions. "The ' Three God Bracteates,' pair of Migration Age gold pendants with inscriptions, depict three figures in an enclosure. On the right, one holds a spear, the central figure holds a ring, and the one on the left is throwing a twig. It's accepted that this depicts Loki, Baldr, and Odin and the scene is a dedication or offering in an envlosed vé. The Norse view of Baldr's death as a holy offering is seen in the kennings for him, "heilagt tafn" (holy sacrifice, Húsdrápa 9) and possibly blódugr tivorr (Völuspá 31); it certainly lived on into the Viking age, and possibly past." There's a lot more, but I'm trying to be brief. It's a little gem of a book, packed with scholarship which puts a totally different take on the "tragic death" angle.
The Annals of Lund back up Saxo Grammaticus, I’m leaning towards Balder (real name Baldag) was a Saxon Drohton (tribal chieftain) who was killed by Hother and was deified after death.
I see Baldr as similar to Helios as a Hellenist I also honor my ancestral Germanic God and Syncretise Helios and Baldr I also see him as very Christ like.
I would like to reach out to you for help with a book I am writing. I have been set out on a mission by Odin himself to write a book to make it easier for new comers of the faith and long time practicers alike to have a good base of knowledge and references. A conglomeration of dozens of sources into one book. Please if there is a way I can contact you for help on this, let me know. I am very serious about this, and I know I can't do it alone. You have far more contacts than me and you yourself are a great source of knowledge. Hail Odin, hail all the Asir and Vanir.
Baldr has actually spoke to me he told me many things he told me to take this certain woman to be my wife and that she would give me great children this is all to be true so far you told me it would not be easy and the difficulties would be numerous but with perseverance great things would come from this coupling with this woman like I said he was right about this I have two very wonderful children from my wife and the difficulties are nothing that have not been able to overcome the gods still give me guidance I'll speak to them often they show their self their faces in the clouds above my altar which is in a small Grove of hardwood trees I know this is real
I talked about him a little in my Norse Gods of Winter video. He has very little concrete information sadly. I will probably wait till I have an experience with him, or meet someone with a strong connection who can give us all some insight into his mystery!

Maybe Baldr represents the sun and, after the "world ends" via Ragnarok, the sun will shine again (the sun always rises anew). And maybe Loki was doing Odin a favor )or they had an agreement) to have Baldr in a safe place (Helheim) during the battles of Ragnarok, ensuring that he would be safe to rise again after the world ended. ????maybe????
Do you think there is a correlation to Jesus with Baldar? It’s a crazy touchy subject, but baldar like you said was the perfect one, and was betrayed by one. That all correlates. Any outside influence? I’m still new to this as well. It’s not exactly 1-1 but some things that match. Just seeing your perspective. Keep up the great work! Skal!
