seriously i don't know if people outside scotland will understand the task of other clubs here beating the old firm, especially over such a long period, and doing it in their own back yard, coming down to glasgow for the cup finals. i look forward to the day when there's another manager who achieves the same!

Ferguson won a European trophy with Aberdeen and broke the dominance of the Old Firm, something that will probably never happen again. United have not spent the most since the Premier leagues inception, in fact they have spent less than chelsea, Liverpool and Man City...Clough failed in the later part of his career totally, Ferguson has had continued success.

What we achieved under Fergie is something which was never done before and by the looks of it, won't ever be achieved again. Since the start of the 20th Century, we're the only team outwith the Old Firm to have won back to back titles, 3 Scottish Cups in a row, cup doubles (St Johnstone achieved this goal a season or two back, an absolutely incredible achievement for them), we're the only Scottish team with two European trophies and we're the last team outwith the Old Firm to win the title.
We almost retained the Cup Winners Cup, but for Porto paying off the Referee in the second leg of the semi final at Pittodrie.

I'm a Celtic fan but what a great Aberdeen side that was. I used to love watching them in Europe beating teams like Ipswich, a good team in those days, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid. And there's no doubt about it, they stuffed the old firm a few times too.

What Aberdeen did at that time has never been equalled in Scottish football. They were the last team outside the Old Firm to win the league and the last team to have European success. And its all down to SAF!

United have spent less since the Premier League's inception in 1992 than Chelsea, Liverpool and City...yet have been far more sucessful. United were a mid table team when he took them over and hadnt won a league in decades....now they are the most valuable sports team in the world according to Forbes. He was also exceptionally sucessful at Aberdeen, achievements at that club outstrip anything Clough managed. Fergie has also won more trophies than any other manager.

The player was Neil Simpson, now a community coach at Aberdeen.

He seemed to enjoy success over Rangers and Celtic, as well as beating big clubs in Europe. I presume these clubs were better resourced? So your comparison is weak, not mine.

Thats a pretty stupid comparison. Liverpool are a far bigger and better resourced club than Aberdeen, its not exactly fergie vs paisley. Fergie is the greatest modern manager.

I liked fergie but you would have to say, it is extremely unlikely that he would have had even a quarter of the success that he had then in todays game, its completely different now, but he deserves credit all the same, by the way the dons stadium hasn't changed any !!

Clown. Fergie is by far the best manager ever produced by the UK. Don't care what Liverpool fans think, you are irrelevant jokers. How many years now?

Clough won with Derby, freaking DERBY and back to back European Cups with freaking FOREST! All Ferguson has ever accomplished in the Premiership is spend money.
