*Correction:* The reference to the part of the letter where Paul says the letter "was written with anguish and tears" is written as 2 Cor. 1:3-4. It should be corrected to 2 Cor. 2:3-4.

Yep. That's why these epistles are included in scripture. God knew that humans never change. Paul's rebukes and corrections would need to be echoed throughout the ages. So God providentially arranged for these epistles to be included in the canon.

I cried when I heard that God values humility and weakness because his love and power were made known through the death and resurrection of Jesus. This is so different from the values of the culture I have and am living in, where you have to boost about yourself and consider a lot about mianzi / how people look at you. I am autistic and have always been trying to be on par with the social standard that the people around me are living up to. It is a never ending torture for me, as I can only change my behaviour to conform but never my root. The fact that God values humility and weakness means that I can be ‘stupid’ and ‘rude’ like how they have mocked me and that simply come to God admitting that I am weak and he is strong. This world is wicked and complicated, but through Jesus we can be reconnected with God and can have something to hold on to. I am really grateful for the Bible and for God’s grace.

Great summary. I read 2nd corinthians and honestly, it took me so long to finish it that I couldn't grasp some of the main ideas of it. I did get a few memorable nuggets here and there. Thank you for blessing us with this summary clip. YOu brought to light and made clear things that were initially dim to me, such as the idea of ears being turned away from Paul because of his appearance, socioeconomic status, etc. However, these are the things that made him so similar to Jesus. Sometimes expectations create barriers that prevent people from experiencing the gospel of Jesus and who he really is. It happened when Jesus was performing miracles on the Earth and it continues to happen now. Jesus presenting himself in such a humble manner, and Paul as well, takes the exclusivity out of Christianity. He came for the poor and rich, the broken and the confused, the educated and the uneducated. And no matter what your background is...He can use you for his purpose.
    I love it.

So-oo much to ponder and meditate on in 2 Corinthians. That is, when you actually read Scripture, not as much when you watch "Read Scripture."
Mackie & Co. are expert about painting the broad strokes. But the true delight in this letter is the in-between details, none of which are mentioned in this vid. Mackie focuses on Paul's plight regarding the Corinthians trying to discredit him because he wasn't rich or fancy. But that's only a sliver of the whole story.
More themes left out: we become a new creation when we're saved (chpt 5), God dwells among us when we're pure (chpt 6/7), finding repentance through godly vs. worldly sorrow (chpt. 7), destroying strongholds (chpt. 10), being a cheerful giver (chpt. 9), how to know if you're really saved? (chpt. 13). So much incredible content, all covered right here.
ALSO, did you know Paul's spirit was catapulted up to heaven and back (chpt 12, cf. Acts 9). No other NT letter talks about that. And guess what he discovered there...?
Please use Bible Project vids to supplement (not supplant) your Bible studies/quiet times. God bless!

If we don’t believe in the church and how beautiful she is, it’s no wonder we’ve never seen a change. Let’s try being encouraging rather than being self righteous

    ISAIAH 47 - 2 CORINTHIANS
“Your nakedness shall be uncovered, yes, your shame will be seen; I will take vengeance, and I will not arbitrate with a man.” (Isaiah 47:3)
    WORDS BY: JESUS
"Many valuable lessons can be learnt when it comes to authority in the Church and one of the biggest lessons is honour. There is always a set order of things and in kingdom you must know your place. Your honour towards authority should be no different to David’s honour to Saul. His approach was always with utmost respect, and most importantly, he would not dare to exploit him nor speak a word against him. Was Saul right? Certainly not. David could have retaliated but chose to submit thus the kingdom was granted to him. The kingdom cannot be won through pride but only through meekness, for this is the fruit I am seeking in the body. This is the problem the Corinthians had as some accused Paul to be morally weak due to his meekness. Just because you have an opinion it does not make it right thus you must be careful in what manner you voice it, if you voice it. Many times I will require your silence and bowing your head, for there are many things you will learn in doing so. This will make your rewards many times greater, as I will raise up the humble and cast the wicked down to the ground.
There is a way to approach your brethren and it does not come through accusation or gossip. That need to feel like you need to express yourself must die if you want to progress further in My kingdom. Having opinions is not an issue but to loose them so freely as if they are of high esteem will only cause yourself to fall in an Isaiah 47:3 curse, just as Ham was cursed for uncovering his father’s nakedness. Any attempt to expose for the wrong reason will come back upon you. When you approach your brethren, let it be with humility knowing that I give grace and great rewards to the humble."

The Bible is strange that way. The more you read the more you want to read it. The less you read, that harder it is to open it.

THIS is Trump’s favorite book of the Bible. Please, think about that deeply. He is the “super apostle” that makes Corinthians betray Jesus’s values

That's the danger we face here in this day and age. Where we have a person who has the potential power to bring the Church and Jesus back to the nation, but does it to glorify himself and not Christ. Whether he truly does believe is between him and Christ but if he's able to put Christ first in this nation, focus on Christ himself and not the person who signed a law that made that change.

Great video as always! I know y'all are super busy, but would you guys ever do discussions on specific topics in the future? I'm talking about "controversial" stuff like abortion, homosexuality, women in church, etc. Maybe in the form of theme videos or podcasts or Q+Rs which trace back their biblical history/contexts and explain how modern day readers should interpret these concepts? Thanks!

Thanks for clarifying. Even after all these years of reading the Bible, I feel like there are always things I miss, and I sometimes have trouble remembering the context....especially the way Paul writes with midrash and diatribe and all that jazz. I find the more I understand about a passage of Scripture, the more I get out of reading it, so thanks a lot. Do you have these for the whole Bible? I might just head over to an overview of Genesis and work my way through Revelation.

Movie 'Standup Guys' Al Pacino quotes 2 Corinthians when he is hitting up Christopher Walken for a 'loan'. Walken gives him the money and says in his weird quirky voice. "I LOVE Corinthians" I hear that voice in my head now every time I open up the book.
