      @@killcat1971 You defeat the purpose as you need the will save while you are concentrating on spirit guardians while you are up front. A warcaster Is in the thick of it and is only using a defensive concentration ability to protect a party member that is in a bad way.
      That said, I counter for people a very simple thing. You are a war/forge cleric as a frontliner so why aren't you sitting at 20 AC? Fullplate+shield. Most enemies won't be hitting you very easily and as your levels increase you supplement it with things like ring/cloak of protection (a pretty cheap item all told and you can absolutely stack 2 rings, a cloak, bracers, and a helmet for +5 to ac and +5 to all saves). Too many want to become a damage dealer. Sentinel feat works from both your and your echo's position. Become the moving wall, an unkillable cockroach that will absolutely keep your party in the fight.

    I love this build idea. Because the way I play I should really play tanks more but my team also needs a healer so my friend suggested I do grave cleric but this seems like a more fun way to do both objectives

    • @Nempo13
      @Nempo13 7 месяцев назад

      Forge cleric does this but better if you want to be a tank. If you want damage, tempest, light, and of course twilight (though many DMs hate twilight) domains will let you pump out damage while still being pretty damn solid.
      Tempest actively penalizes the enemy for even targeting you (giving you a free and immediate counterattack that deal lighting or thunder damage, very few enemies have resistance to both of those giving you a guaranteed solid damage against every single attacker). Light lets you bring the pain using radiant damage which is always useful.
      Twilight is, honestly overpowered to all hell at lower levels and keeps things going smoothly at mid to late.

    • @Dave004
      @Dave004 Год назад +2

      Agreed, need Barbarian with GWM to make it optimal, especially with an Echo since you can't flank with an Echo. Kind of annoys me when people just throw in GWM on a build and say they boost the damage by a lot and ignore the fact they now have a 30% change to actually land a hit and would do more damage not using GWM unless they had some way of getting advantage all the time.

  • @glitchking666
    @glitchking666 Год назад +3

    If you go longtooth shifter , you can go all in on the echo Knight. You will lose damage potential and some flexibility, because you aren't getting spell casting, but you don't have to split your ability scores and you will get more asi's so you can use feats to get spell casting later. But i do like the war priest being put to good use, it tends to get overlooked because we have so many great cleric options. Great video keep up the good work

At this point I got a little bored of the build and renounced my gods to become a twilight cleric with the next 3 lvls of eldritch knight, taking shield, find familiar and booming blade among others. Had a great time with it and hope to come back to it in a future campaign some time.

  • @Dave004
    @Dave004 Год назад +1

    Its a unique build definitely. Tough to say that its as good as basic 2 or 3 lvl Barbarian and 5+ lvl of Echo Knight fighter. Reckless attack through an Echo is pretty hard to beat when paired with GWM and adding rage bonus to dmg plus the defence it gives if they do get past your Echo to you really helps. Though to prevent this, again a classic build option is 3 lvl Barbarian Ancestral Guardian combined with Sentinel. The enemy then has disadvantage to attack your Echo, and if it tries to leave you can stop its movement with your Echo opportunity attack.
    But Clerics give extra utility with spells so certainly a good alternate build with more to do outside of just combat.

    I think you may be better served going peace cleric rather than war cleric for the non-concentration bless-like feature being more beneficial for GWM in the long run. [Starting as fighter for heavy armor prof and con saves]. You could get unlimited BA attacks from PAM and a great reaction [perhaps going variant human/custom lineage rather than goliath to make this feat chain smoother.] Setting up emboldening bond and spirit guardians is kind of a pain, but they both last 10 minutes, so they could potentially be activated prior to encounters With a glaive and slasher in spirit guardians you can really hamstring their movement.

    Swap strength to a minimum 14 dex, allowing you to put less resources in a mad build, take the fighting style of ranger to get shilelagh, and this build works even better. Allows you to multiclass efficiently, makes your primary abilities rely on just wisdom and con, and you can even still use GWM with a greatclub, or a staff/club and shield for a more defensive option. Polearm master later on even gives you a weaker bonus action attack for when you're out of War Cleric charges.

      If multiclassing is allowed at your table go with an Eloquence bard/hexblade the bard is excellent for rp and the hexblade gives you some combat options. If multiclassing isn't a thing at your table use a tortle as your race /species for the 17 ac grab magic initiate at lvl 4 to pick up Hex , Eldritch blast and either Minor illusion or Prestidigitation. Go Eloquence bard they are great at rp settings and Minor Illusion and Prestidigitation are great cantrips for rp if you are creative. The Eldritch blast and hex are to sure up the weaknesses of small amounts damage that can plague a bard if not built for it. Hope that helps

    I went Shadar-Kai Echo Knight with a double-bladed scimitar. Then went two levels into Grave Cleric. This gave me ranged Spare the Dying and Healing Word, both as a bonus action. This way I could have either myself or my echo (or both) constantly in melee but also sacrifice my BA attack in case someone needed quick help.

    You can only Unleash Incarnation ONCE per turn. Until you get the actual extra attack feature. The war priest extra attack is not an ACTUAL extra attack and an 'ability' thus cannot be unleashed off of. So at level 4 you would have 3 attacks a round tops.
    A lot of these "multi-attack" builds are built by people who ignore the rules in the DMG which truly spell out action economy and what things can proc off of what based on the wording used in the description. Unleash Incarnation requires the 'attack action' You have only one of these till level 5 in fighter. So once a round limitation. Same with the war priest's skill as it is a bonus action ability (which you only get one of a round).
    The wigglers and pushers always like to whine, "It doesn't say that in the description of the ability!" Of course not, because it is laid out plainly in the PHB where it tells you how to play and the rules, as well as goes into more detail in the DMG. If you are allowing these to proc off of other things, that is a homebrew rule and not the skills/rules as written.
