I lived in Wisconsin near Dustin & he used to frequent a restaurant my friend's mom worked at. One afternoon he stopped in and my friends mom called us to let us know. My friend asked if I wanted to meet him and specifically said in a serious tone "Whatever you do, DON’T call him Screech. He won't ever talk to you again." A half hour later we were eating lunch with him and he was really nice - even paid for our meals and we hung out with him for the rest of the day. He was really nice and seemed lonely, he didn't like going out in public much because people would always bother him asking for autographs and pics, plus they would all call him Screech, which he couldn't say much about it because 99% of the people he met didn't know his real name and he couldn't be a jerk and tell them "don't call me that". It was both funny and sad when I heard about him stabbing a guy at bar on Christmas and then his odd comeback. Like Hunter Thompson said "Too weird to live, too rare to die..." RIP Dustin.
Who remembers getting home from school, tuning in to TBS only to find out a Braves game was on so no Saved By the Bell and the disappointment that followed?
Or, it's an episode of "Good Morning Mrs. Bliss" - I was never a fan of those episodes but never really understood that it was its own show before Saved By the Bell because they would always use the SBTB intro for it.
Dustin was hilarious and he should of been way more famous and got more roles after the end of saved by the bell .He reminded me of a young Jerry Lewis.
RIP Dustin!! When I was young I adored him on the show, he was my fav. I dressed up as his gf "Violet" once for a costume party! Would love a full documentary on him!
I wished they would’ve allowed Dustin to play different roles that weren’t closely tied to Screech. I understand that Screech made Dustin famous, but if he would’ve at least been given a romantic role or a serious role after SBTB, he probably wouldn’t have hated Screech as much.
I remember on Family Matters, they allowed Jaleel White to play several different characters aside from Steve Urkel. He got to play Cousin Myrtle Urkel, Stephan Urquelle, and other characters to show his acting range. When they had the Saved By The Bell: The New Class, and they had Dustin Diamond come back as a principal's assistant, they should have had him mature. Instead they had an adult version of Screech.
@@HappyRoach1 You know what? I think it’s somewhat our fault as the audience because we loved Screech more than we loved Dustin, and that caused the industry to limit him in showing his acting range because everyone wanted Screech. He also didn’t have a whole lot of support, and that caused him to go downhill. Dustin resented Screech sort of like when Miley Cyrus resented Hannah Montana. They both went from teenage sweethearts to edgy and provocative adults. Typecasting can be a blessing or a curse for actors. There are some actors who don’t mind being typecasted because they enjoy the characters they portray. But for Dustin’s case, I know he wanted to portray different characters who weren’t like screech, and I think he should’ve gotten more of those opportunities. I think the only non-Screech role he had was when he played a younger version of one of the elderly townsfolk in Big Top Pee-wee, but it was a short role and it was before SBTB.
Well it was always on, but the original airing was way before Pokémon and N64. I remember it was on TBS in the morning in 96/97, I’d watch go to school and come home to game 😂😂❤️❤️
@@jeffro9252 older children can still include younger children when hanging out on set. I agree it won't be the same and you won't be invited to the parties, but on the set to just exclude him is sad. They said he had to hang out with the 'extras' who are probably not his age either

I've watched every episode of Saved By the Bell when I was a kid, but I had never heard of "Good morning, Miss Bliss." It's interesting to find out how it all began.
He's the only cast member I met and have a picture with and today, by hours viewed, Saved By The Bell remains probably at the very top, despite not having seen an episode in 20 years. It was simply life. One of those letters Tiffany received was definitely mine. RIP. Trust the Dust.

After the SBTB: The College Years, I think Dustin Diamond was permanently typecast. Mark Paul Gossilaar went on to do a few films. He did a TV show called Hyperion Bay which got canceled after a number of episodes. Mark joined the cast of NYPD Blue. Mario Lopez did a few films and then eventually became a tv host. Mario may not be getting a lot of acting work, but he is seen as something other then "AC Slater." Dustin Diamond didn't get that freedom and opportunities. I believe that hurt his soul that people only saw him as Screech and he could break that typecast along with whatever may have happened on set.

That truly describes Dustin so well. It's too bad he detested what made him famous.

Save by the bell was a classic show during my childhood. TBS superstation days…. 😂
Yes I remember 2004-2008 it was always on at 6AM-7AM
Word is bond, damn TBS had those power hours of broadcasting…with Fresh Prince & Family Matters coming on too! #90sBabiesGangGang
I was at Disney land around '90-'91, and Dustin liked showed up and was mobbed by people and had to be rescued by mickey Mouse.
damn das some irony
I ran into him there in 93's all the girls were around him
They wrote him as ridiculous and the butt of jokes. But early Screech was a little less over the top, and was a good-hearted underdog
Poor guy. This sheds new light on a pretty tragic life. Lots of credit to his parents and their loving selflessness though.
