  • In this video I discuss wether or not I think that the Leica M6 is worth all of the hype it receives from people around the world.
    It's no doubt that Leica creates some of the most beautiful and functional cameras on the planet but what I want to know and hopefully help you figure out is if the M6 is the perfect camera after all. I've owned this Leica M6 TTL 0.58 for a few months now and I have only good things to say about this incredible camera. But I also think that to answer the question as to wether or not its worth it all depends on the person buying the camera and what they plan to use it for.
    I hope you all enjoy this video please drop a comment on which camera or film stock you'd like to see me discuss next!
    Follow me on instagram to see more photographs using the Leica M6.

    • @isaiahfilm9414
      @isaiahfilm9414  4 года назад +2

      That’s a great question and I’ve done some research to see if this is true. For me personally I’ve never had any focusing issues and from what I can see online, people mostly have an issue with focusing when shooting with a tighter focal length like 90mm. Overall, I don’t plan to ever use anything tighter than 35 so the .58 made the most sense for me and so far I have had zero issues with focusing. I hope that’s helpful!

    It’s not true to say the TTL version adds accuracy to exposure metering. The so-called M6 “Classic” already uses TTL exposure metering. The M6 TTL adds TTL flash metering, which is only helpful if you use a lot of flash. With a Leica rangefinder camera, many people never use flash. Those that do may benefit from using manual flash settings.

    M6 2x'ed in value over the past 3 or 4 years due to the sudden surge of interest in film photography. What do you expect, it will 2x again in the next coming years? Film photography is not a financial market and there will be plenty of people seeking alternatives when prices are driven too high; and there are many.

    I just bought Leica glass. 28mm f2,8 Elmarit IV E46 from 1997. 969 Euro or 1184 Dollars. Not too expansive i think. The E46 is a lot better then version III E49.
    Around 2010 nobody cares about film. Therefore the cameras and lenses were much cheaper. I paid for my M6 from 1995 in mint condition 1000 Euro or around 1000 Dollars. Back than the exchange rate was about 1:1. And even more unbelievable. My 35mm f2 summicron IV king of bokeh from 1994 in mint condition costs only 800 Euro or dollars. Can you believe that? Today it as at least triple the price.

      @@enterwordyworldSearching online reveals almost nothing but hearsay. It's almost as if one person mentioned that they heard the meter broke in someone else's M6. Then that comment is repeated by ten more people, then each of those comments are repeated by ten more people, etc.. However, in actuality it seems that just as with your M6, the meters are fine and well in the vast majority of M6 cameras out there.

    • @enterwordyworld
      @enterwordyworld 3 года назад

      VirtualGuth sure. can't argue with you there. I just think they are too expensive a camera and sooner or later will age. But if u are willing to buy in to the classic analog systems and circuits u can surely expect them to expire at one point. I would say it's a few shops that have already repaired or replaced old m light meters. Again can't argue as to how people naturally repost as I did, information they receive.

    Is it me or are Leicas totally hyped at the moment? People are conflating a beautiful, efficient machine with great photography. Fact is, most decent cameras of the late 1990s will give just as good results in the hand of a decent photographer as an M6. Videos like this just drive up the prices for idiots who think the more expensive the camera, the better the picture. They also drive up the Leica brand so new cameras are more and more expensive. It's not about your kit - it's about what you carry between your ears.
