Enjoy the water. But it seems to make sense to have the water in the well tested and then I would also test the water out of this filtration system just as comparison. Water is the most important substance after all.
Yes of course! Until we get it tested we are only using water from the local fountain that has a sign saying 'agua controlada' (controlled water). In an emergency situation though its great to know that we could potentially make loads of drinking water from our wells or dam
That's a very nice system! In Portugal in some stores that sell farm products, you can buy 5 Liter glass water containers, they are very nice because instead of plastic, you don't injest any plastic micro particles that comes from using the plastic containers over time. Me and my wife bought some of them and we fill the water from some springs in in Serra da Estrela, the water keeps fine for weeks without any bad smells.
I want to get a stand to raise the Berkey up so we can put it in the kitchen ans then we won't have to use a bottle and can drink straight from the filter. I agree about the plastics being bad! 👍
I love your videos. Funny enough I got myself a royal berkey and a travel berkey. I have a lovely spring on my land and it feeds my water in my house via a professionally constructed Finnish Pump house ( Finnish homestead technology is very well designed as is old fashioned Russian systems. I would welcome you both up here some time to take a look at some of the "tech" that has been circulating here for years. Many folks have second homes on islands without the grid so off grid systems have had years of design. I got the royal for the times when our grid goes down it is not often but when it does, the water pump stops pumping into the house and we have to use the hand pumped well. I have consumed water from the hand pumped well, but it is not as deep as the spring fed one so I got the berkey for any situation where I need to take water from this well or any of our beautiful lakes. Again I have consumed water from the lakes fresh and untreated because in the land of 18K freshwater lakes and only 5m people the pollution is almost zero and the water here is very pure and indeed tasty. Making my twinings tea very nice - I am also a British person addicted to tea ( these days I have to have fresh ginger or ground cardamom in my teapot with my teabags - try it it's awesome with milky tea. As for the travel berkey, well sometimes I have to work away and stay in hotels in cities. And in this case I am now very concerned (more than ever) with water in towns and cities and the effects of novel phamaceutical drugs shedding into our water systems. After all it is not a conspiracy theory that Hormones from HRT drugs and Contraceptives are getting into our water systems and as I actually am a qualified Health and Safety professional, it is not beyond comprehension that untested experimental highly novel phamaceuticals may well have some very hidden issues regarding being shed into our water systems via our re-cycled toilet water to drinking water municipal systems. It is only when you re-locate to the countryside where you start thinking that urinating into a water system is crazy and that composting is the only sustainable way! So it is a tested fact that Berkey's filter technology remove phamaceutical drugs from your water. My Berkeys are yet to arrive, but it was interesting to see your video, I came here from your latest video to see what you had to say about the systems. What I really wanted to say is to make one point. Much the same with people re-using the same plague mask all day once they have touched it with bare hands - re-using single use plastic such as the big bottle you are re-using to keep the filtered water is not recommended by the manufacturers. There are labels that everyone needs to get familiar with. They are the PET triangle labels with numbers. In the case of the water container which was from a shop bought mineral water it is normally a single use product. Which means that under tests that plastic will start to degrade after it's first use. Now ofcourse everyone one re-uses these all the time....but for safety everyone ought not to. Far better to buy a sturdy plastic bottle designed for use with water or ofcourse glass is 100% safe if kept clean. For me it is so lovely to watch your videos as one escapee from the UK to another. I just use a Brita filter system...I get three filters that last me about 3 months for $20 bucks. I'm sure you are starting with some very good water from the mountain springs, but it's only as good as the pipes it runs through...so I think you are wise to filter it. I had well water in Florida when I lived there that smelled disgusting. I'm in Portland now, so I'm drinking out of a public water system. I did test it for lead, and it had like zero. I like the fact that your water is stored in stainless. My Britta is stored in plastic...;-)
Nice product review! We have used a Berkey for many years to filter our town water, even though it is supposed to be potable. In Ontario, Canada, some years ago a public water system failed, it was not detected or corrected, and people died from the bacteria in the water supply. It will probably never happen again, but one never knows. I keep ours raised on a cookie tin, which has worked well for years. I fill ours with a four cup measuring cup, cup by cup, which does not involve picking up the unit full of water. One video I watched installed a water tap above the Berkey to fill it easily.
I'm really sorry to hear about it. I'm not getting into the politics of it as we all feel differently but I hope things come to their senses soon and you can go about your normal life again. All the best and lots of love to you and your friends and family 😊❤️

We were getting spring water from up the mountain but this water was chlorinated water from a tap in a village with a very strong chlorine taste and smell. The Berkey did a good job so far. Early days though but so far so good.
The earthen clay water filter will be better but stainless steel also is ok and clean, not sure what earthen clay does to water, but it is always advisable to drink water from it, I guess its due to its natural material.

The in line ones are high pressure fast filters and a lot of contaminants pass through at speed to supply the taps
Why don't you just get the well tested? You can buy kits on line quite cheaply. Our friends who live down the road from you built a 3 stage filtration system for their well, you should have a chat with him before he moves to Coimbra, hes a very clever chap, they call him the professor 😁
The rainy season is about 3 months long and after that it's pretty dry. It rains a lot though in those three or so months. We don't seem to need to store it though as we haven't run out of water during the scorching summer months
@@OKportugal I just thought, if you collect the water before it potentially washes unhealthy stuff out of the earth, that might work... but no tea for Gina for nine months then? Nah, scrap the idea.

Unfortunately you are going to be spoiled now. The water from the Berkey tastes excellent. Well done, safe drinking water for the win!
Thanks dude. It does taste amazing by not tasti g like anything... Kinda weird and refreshing!
Why don't you just get the well tested? You can buy kits on line quite cheaply. Our friends who live down the road from you built a 3 stage filtration system for their well, you should have a chat with him before he moves to Coimbra, hes a very clever chap, they call him the professor 😁
I didn't want to waste money on a test until the well had been cleaned. Now it's difficult to get someone to do the job with the lockdowns.
check out "Three Basket Living" The guy does a good video on his Berkey filtering system
Will the animals be drinking the water from the Berkie ?
Yes of course. They have been drinking the same bottled water as us from the nearby village springs in the past
So, you would know you could drink good old Rooibos tea. No caffeine.
Yes we have lots of Rooibos in the cupboard. It comes from a place not far from when i was born in South Africa :)
Hi guys, we haven't heard from you for over a week now. Are you OK? Please let us know

It's no good, I'm going to have to go to the toilet watching that.🤣🤣🤣
Haha. Make sure you shake at least twice 😂
Buy a filter purification Hello
... give it two shakes and then you´re done :D
I guess rainwater collection is not really an option, as you’d go thirsty for half the year ;-)
The rainy season is about 3 months long and after that it's pretty dry.
