    I purchased the Typhoon H and could not be happier. I immediately stepped into a big production which required extensive drone footage. I'm new at drones and found the Typhoon H to be easy to handle and fly. What's really cool is the gimbal, no one has really discussed the gimbal which is a VERY important aspect to any drone. This gimbal is awesome, smooth and steady. I'm looking to get a second Typhoon H as well as the new Yuneec drone, the Breeze. I need a small drone for indoor footage which is EXACTLY what the Breeze was designed to do. Could not be happier.

    This is, rather, a discussion of the Yuneec Typhoon H with references to the DJI Phantom 4 and not a true, balanced comparison of the two.

    A lot of people, such as myself, don't want to use their phone or deal with the hassle of using a separate device and and app with their transmitter. What if your phone rings while flying? Plus it's another battery you have to worry about.

      When I bought my first camera drone it was between the Phantom 3 and the Yuneec Q500. The Yuneec transmitter having a built in screen was a big factor and I bought the Q500. I now have a Phantom 4 and my Q500 is for letting friends or my daughter fly, but it rarely leaves the case. Buying an iPad Mini was worth it for the performance increase. Fast boot up of the radio, further range, almost not video lag, I could go on and on. Yuneec will really have to step up their game to get me to consider another.

    I was looking for a fair comparison and got a DJI advertisement. While some of your points may be true, DJI has a LOT of work to do on the app. A quick search reveals a huge variety of issues, including some who simply can't get the app to even load, nevermind fly. And if you are one of the lucky few who were able to get past endless no fly zone prompts of entering credit card numbers and verifying text message codes (sent AFTER takeoff, covering your whole display while the drone hovers in front of you), there's a strong possibility that the app will simply crash and you'll be stuck flying blind. I want to love my DJI drones but it's like they want me to dislike them.

    "fall out of the sky or run into an object"
    Sorry but your entire commentary about being an "experience" UAV operator is discounted when you made this statement. These things are flying semi-autonomous robots. Been flying UAV's since the early stick-built ones. Been flying a Yuneec product since the original Q500. Very happy with their products. Never had the Yuneec "fall out of the sky" or "Run into" an object.(??)Your entire review was way-over-the-top biased and started off and ended like a DJI fan boy. To each his own and, I will agree with you, DJI (NOW) makes a relatively good product. All commercially available UAV's have their particular short comings. I also own the original Phantom V1 with the built-in RTC mode. (Return To China) Still have it, never wrecked it. After the first few reported flyaways, I swapped out the controller with a Futaba radio and encapsulated the compass with RTV. Now, I'm sure the day will come when my Typhoon H will take a notion and, through my fault or the hardware, will crash. So far, so good.

      If One motor goes down it will return, I know his won’t for sure. I bet most Typhoon H owners do not even know this drone will return even if two motors stop but of course they need to be two opposing motors.

    Just noticed your camera style was set to RAW :) this might account for the lack of colour and slightly soft image. I think with this setting you need to colour grade the footage and sharpen in post to get the best from it :) Many other users have used the natural or gorgeous settings to get the best footage straight from the camera.

    • @ross9481
      @ross9481 3 года назад +1

      Yes if you’re going to compare the two you should first learn how to use the one you’re comparing it to. I use the gorgeous setting along with the Auto bright setting you use on very sunny days, everything is perfectly fine.

    I'd agree the H is a little rough around the edges, but all i can say after owning both is SUPPORT. Never had a problem with Yuneec normally speak to a real person in a few minutes. DJI on the other hand might have a nice craft but good luck trying to get any support within our lifespan. And this is more important long term than a craft that took 4 years and many upset customers to complete. If the H nearly their in 2 attempts wait for the 3rd version next year

      The way he gushes about the DJI you can tell he wasn't going to be too particular how the Yuneec was set up. If he found the Android UI clunky then for sure he didn't work too hard to get used to it. And about the battery level indicator. I'm a tech and any professional will tell you that a numerical voltage indicator beats idiot lights hands down. Also, the built-in tablet screen beats the nightmare many people are having with connecting the tiny screen cellphones.

      That's true Bill. but remember, It's just a regular battery , Not a smart battery, and therefore they can't control the future price of the battery like DJI does when they change the software when they find out other companies are cloning their batteries. by this time next year, you'll probably be able to pick them up for 40-50 bucks or so as the Chinese themselves clone the hell out of them and sell them at discount. do ya think? and they will have to drop this ridiculous price. Just takes a bit of patience.

    Having watched so many comparisons, I agree that picture quality is better on the P4. There seemed to be a problem with the lens of the CGO3+ camera, as the Sony-sensor is capable of much better quality. Some enthusiasts have fixed that with 3rd party lenses, but I don't know if Yuneec adopted these fixes. What I am missing in this and other comparisons: the Typhoon H is a Hexacopter. And for safety reasons this is a huge plus. A P4 will fall right out of the sky if one of it's props or motors is damaged. My first drone was a DJI F550 hexacopter with a NazaV2 just because of this. I'm still very happy with it, although the flighttime is very disappointing. I also like that Yuneec's remote control has a build in display. I don't have to carry my phone around when taking pictures/videos, and being distracted if there's a call while I'm flying. And one more feature of Yuneec: You can get almost all parts as spare for little money and repair it yourself. Not so with DJI - If your P4 crashes, you'll have to send it back to the dealer or DJI itself and have it repaired for a huge amount of money. Everybody should decide for himself what is more important, but in an objective comparison all facts should be presented.

  • @PietroMalaguti

    Anyway a really strange thing for DJI is they don't give a ready to fly aircraft, since you NEED a smartphone or a tablet to make telemetry and FPV, and that's a real minus into the Phantom features..

    Firmware update (July 13, 2016) on the Yuneec Typhoon H is fantastic, at least as far as start up time goes. I downloaded and implemented the firmware less than an hour ago and have been testing the the start up time that you disliked so much (understandably in your case) Jim, you'll be happy to know that from the time I push the on switch on the ST16 and the Typhoon H itself it took an average of roughly 40 seconds for my camera and the aircraft to be booted up and ready to fly! I literally just did it three times in the last five minutes, the times were 41, 38, and 39 seconds. It may actually take me longer to put on the rotors than that. Well Mr. Seed, that's one less "huge" flaw on the Typhoon H for you - I was able to have it ready in 2:30 without rushing too much anyway, that being said I'm pretty stoked on this aspect of the firmware update. Super fast start up time AND two extra rotors and motors! Huzzah!
    Also included in the update was the goodies needed to run the RealSense and a thermal imaging sensor and/or camera, pretty cool stuff. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for my H.

      Let's see...you can now replay the footage you just shot on the ST16 while the SD card is still in the aircraft. Also, and I haven't tested this, they reportedly added more range on the wifi for better connection between the aircraft and controller, I haven't had issues but I always stay line of sight. The battery indicator is the same percentage set up, I actually like that. I think that is about it for this upgrade.

    Got a Typhoon H with the 4K and all the goodies! Ben, the comparison is biased and I don't mean to say you're biased, rather that you're not comparing the two, rather pointing out the flaws you find in using the model. If you really wanted to have a more unbiased comparison you take the best with the best. You already said you were using the DJI Phantom 4 and comparing it to the first generation Typhoon H. the video you're shooting the H with is predominantly from the DJI. Get a new Typhoon H Pro with the backpack oriented case and upload the camera from the playstore onto the control. Every one of the flaws you found sans battery lights has been addressed. BTW, the battery power indicator on the remote works pretty accurately and has a home mode so that your drone automatically comes home from flight when you get to low power. Really bro, I'm always looking for a fair review and yours just really seemed somewhat biased. It's cool, I understand how getting paid by a company to compare others against their product works. Hope you consider the test and features that Yuneec added to their last updates to the Typhoon H Pro. Peace

    I fly both platforms and find each one to have pros and cons. The phantom is great but what happens if by chance the camera or the gimbal breaks? Can you replace just those parts? Yuneec offers a variety of interchangeable cameras and modules(intelrealsense) which are available as standalone purchases. With IntelRealsense on the typhoon, I never worry about flying into objects or objects falling in my flight path. Why was this stuff not mentioned in video? Huge info to leave out of a comparison.

    Is the Phantom 4 a more polished product..yes it is....and it better be.
    We forget, that DJI has gone through a total of 7 iterations of the Phantom over the years to finally get to the current P4. Both the P4 and the H have good and bad points. All I heard was the good points of the P4...after the 1-2 minutes of the video, I pretty much knew your conclusion.

    • @AuthenTech
      @AuthenTech  8 лет назад

      You should tell that Tesla... your argument holds no ground. Just because a company has created more 'iterations', it doesn't equate to a more polished product.

    • @mboiko
      @mboiko 8 лет назад +2

      Do you think DJI got it right the first time with the Phantom 1 of course not...that was 3 and a half years ago and we tend to forget just how many people were very unhappy about their original Phantom 1's. But 7 iterations later plus 3 and a half years..the P4 is a mature and very good product. DJI's new M600 looks like it will be a great Pro Hex..but we forget as I'm sure DJI would like to...the disaster of the S800 Hex. The S800 was a disaster that for a time looked like it might bring the company down. Type in S800 and crash and you'll see many videos..there was talk of lawsuits..and DJI had to do some serious redesign. The Typhoon H has no where near that many issues...but the difference is it's expected to be as good or almost as good as the P4 after being introduced 8+ weeks ago.
      I don't know if Yuneec and the Typhoon H will succeed or fail..and I am a big fan of DJI...Frank Wang has done an excellent job with his company..I've had DJI products for 5 years. Of course just because a company has created more "iterations/updates" doesn't ALWAYS equate to a more finished product...but in most cases it does. You brought up Tesla....both Tesla and SpaceX get better over time as they learn and update their product. The Model S was good but not that good...thanks to constant software updates the product gets better over time. Same is true with Lockheed Martin's F-35 and Boeing's Dreamliner...and the Nest thermostat...good but far from perfect...but getting better all the time due to updates and new iterations of the hardware. Apple - the original Mac was horrible, I know I had one. But it got better over time. Microsoft Windows 8 - horrible Windows 10 much better. Very FEW companies get their product "right" the first time...it's ALMOST always a process of iteration. As products increase in complexity and sophistication, the probability of "getting it right" the first time decreases..and it's only going to get worse in the coming years..

      Give me a break. It's a dumb thing to not have. People want and understand battery percentage. It will be added but not adding it out of the gate is a head scratcher and makes you wonder. The should I or shouldn't I is the voltage, not the percentage. In other words, if one is a variable to show or not, it should be voltage, not percentage, like on the Phantom.

      LiPo batteries can be very dangerous. You absolutely need to know the voltage instead of the % of battery that is left. Your voltage tell you everything about your flight time and battery condition. Another reason he does not the Yuneec product, you need to learn. Good review but you missed the most fundamental overall advantage. The ability of the Typhoon to survive after a motor/ESC failure. If the Phantom has a failure, it an immediate and total loss. If the Typhoon loses a motor or ESC, it will survive unharmed on 5 of the 6 rotors. This is huge.

    • @SailFlyTri
      @SailFlyTri 6 лет назад

      And now the new plus at CES looks much better, although I share your concern about camera quality. The DJI 1 inch is well tuned and solid. Typhoon may have just tried to match the specs and still be weak.

    • @ross9481
      @ross9481 3 года назад

      Most people might not realize this but with the typhoon if two opposing motors go out it will still return on four motors, I know what will happen to the phantom. People will argue one has a motor ever stopped, that’s not the point especially if you fly around any bush area out in the country. The worst enemy for any drone is a hawk and drones do get attacked so losing a motor could happen quite easily.

      At least when your one motor stops you will be glad you made this decision when it comes back home. I doubt his will. But having said that even if two motors go down it might still come back to you, mind you it has to be two opposing motors and it will still come back!

    Hey Ben -
    Much of the same thoughts as you. I had originally thought with the full android tablet potentials with image editing / video editing and posting right from the tablet would be great, not available though.
    Couldn't agree more on the camera, and on the tablet, you didn't mention but the lack of maps is a miss. on the wand, follow is great, no other real use for it.
    Would love to hear if you had issues with the gimbal becoming crooked / skewed during flight or if you had any drift? I received two of the "H" and had to return both.

      Honestly you should check more than one drones web page. There are pros and cons with all of the drones, the reason I chose this one is it has six motors and if one stops it will come back home. Most people don’t know it but this typhoon will return even if two motors go down. Mind you they must be two opposing motors for that to happen. Do check out more than one drones website. Good luck.

And you can access the files such as video and pictures from the controller without putting in the sd card. All be it that you have to land first but still. I still think the typhoon h is better.

    I just scored the typhoon H in my area for $850 one thing the reviewer failed to mention on the CGO3+ you can add filters to the lens of the camera for different lighting conditions so if you're like an overpriced flying pillow go with the Phantom 4 it really is apples to oranges they do compare pretty well to the same range and quality and it really is a personal choice and Yuneec customer service is way better than DJI'S it really is all about preference

  • @bryantturner97
    @bryantturner97 8 лет назад

    I have both...just speaking of them as an out of box experience for the newbie, Phantom 4 is the way to go...but beyond that, I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the H. It requires a slight investment of time to learn to properly operate, however, the increased flexibility gained in flight & camera control is well worth it. I'm usually not editing in the field so taking the card out to review footage is no big deal for me or most recreational pilots. Also, if I were actually doing aerial video for commercial purposes, I would not be tinkering around with a Phantom 4 or a Typhoon H and rather invest in an Inspire.. Also, though highly subjective, I'd even be more hesitant about crowning the P4's camera as superior to Yuneec's CGO3+. To me, the P4's camera is superior in low light, but I much prefer the color saturation and wider field of view of the CGO3+ in most well lit scenarios. Again, this is all highly subjective. Anyways, gerat video...keep up the good work!

    • @zzApotheosis
      @zzApotheosis 7 лет назад +5

      I have a Typhoon H as well, and I'm not disappointed. However, the points in the video are pretty accurate, so I'll be returning my hexacopter for a Phantom 4 Pro. I really wanted to support Yuneec as the underdog, but there's just more value in the Phantom 4 Pro for its price point. I absolutely love the GPS tracking feature on the Typhoon, but I feel like that's one of the only practical advantages it has over the P4. The P4 has a better camera, MUCH better hover, better obstacle avoidance (even against RealSense), better battery life, better range, better video downlink, you name it. The only advantages on the Typhoon I can think of is its retractable landing gear, its better GPS-based watch-me mode, and its ability to stay airborne in the event of a motor failure.
      I hate supporting giant corporations, because that only strengthens their attempt at a monopoly, but in this case, I have to admit the Phantom 4 Pro is the better package, especially when the two drones are compared at value per dollar, or even features per dollar. But overall, both drones are outstanding, and if you don't really care about specific features, then either drone is a great pick. The Typhoon H was so much fun and it really gave me an adrenaline rush on each takeoff, but overall, the Phantom 4 Pro will probably suit my needs better.

    • @AuthenTech
      @AuthenTech  7 лет назад +4

      @zzApotheosis - You hit it on the head man! These Yuneec fans think I'm biased, which is just funny because I'm always rooting for the underdogs too, but straight from the facts and features, the Phantom/DJI models simply outweigh the competition.

      @AuthenTech  7 лет назад +4

      JanPBtest - I heard Yuneec was paying off people to tear down, write negative comment, and down-vote videos that stated DJI as the superior product... not sure if it's true, but looking at all the complainers here and on other Yuneec vs DJI videos, sure seems a bit questionable.. ;) I'm pretty sure none of them have actually watched the video, or owned a DJI product to experience the difference.

    Honest opinions don't create great video, even in a world of product comparisons. The new "sport," seems to be the "this is better than that" video. As good as the gear is, if there are features of one that allow the flier to exercise the creative controls that they need to produce a final video product, then that one is "better." I own both, and am not a fan boy for either company, but I'm clearly seeing that they both have their place - the P4 is solidly built, has a great camera and lens, range, software package, etc. The H, once learned, allows infinite control and creative potential over pan and tilt during flight, when practiced. It also has technical flaws and quirks. I suggest flying each extensively for a month, then come to your own conclusions after asking yourself the reason for purchase, aside from being an expensive tech toy...

      I did fly both for over a month, I have super high hopes for Yuneec (or GoPro with the Karma or something new from 3DR) as we need the competition to drive innovation. Unfortunately the H fell short in many areas. I love the design, but even something that I hoped for (props getting in the way) happens much easier with the H as they dip down much quicker. I had two bad experiences with the H. Haven't had that with anything else.

    • @RuudyL
      @RuudyL 8 лет назад +1

      BillNicholsTV Some people buy the H because it looks cool and the legs go up. But why do we want these type of Drone's?? because of aerial video, and the camera on the H and all Yuneec's are just bad. And you can get retractable legs for the Phantom if you want too make it look cool

      @lucasschofield8716 8 лет назад +5

      +RobisDroneVideos I didn't say they couldn't, I said they probably wouldn't, the phantom is their beginner hobby drone, a quadcopter, if they made a hexacopter it would be larger, heavier, more complicated and more expensive, even their 'inspire' drone is a quadcopter. it would be like subaru making a FWD 1.0 hatchback and calling it an evo, they wouldn't, because it's too far from that model range, DJI are more likely to bin the phantom range and put something in it's price range.

    • @p3e450
      @p3e450 8 лет назад

      Luke Schofield DJI has made the impossible possible. Don't doubt in them. They made the world's first RTF Camera Drone. They have done so much. Don't doubt that they can't make a simple hexacopter. Remember, a hexacopter is a quadcopter with 2 more motors.

    The author makes some good points but clearly had his mind made up as he is obviously a DJI long time fan and has not owned a Yuneec.
    Like the remote control stick, I agree, a gimmick. Battery indicator, not a big deal to me as I use a volt meter but it's a fair comment. The Yuneec camera looked as good or better than the DJI and not having the legs in the way makes panning much smoother and professional. You've got to pay about $4000 to get a DJI inspire with retractable legs.
    Hopefully Yuneec has fixed the camera over color saturation and white balance problem. They do have adjustable white balance in the controller now. In the CG02, post processing to color correct is always needed and that usually degrades the Mp4 due to re-rendering. But he's had every Phantom and clearly had his mind made up before doing the comparison.
    Yuneec's customer service is second to none however, discontinuing the Q500 series is going to piss a lot of Q500 owners off. Yuneec has told me personally, they are no longer making parts for the Q500's so don't crash. What's going on with Yuneec, it seems they are getting run over by DJI now that your choice is so limited.
    I really think they are making a mistake as the Q500 4K seems just about perfect. One thing he did not mention is that the H will fly with one motor disabled so a motor controller or motor failure will still get it home. DJI will crash. Motor failure is rare however.
    As far as compact, never is compact enough to make any difference in portability. The Mavic is the answer if you are going to hike with it. But the Mavic camera is inferior to both.

      The Typhoon H does come with a controller, I don't know if the DJI has one included too.

      Not only do you need a phone for the DJI you also need data, no one has mentioned that added cost!

    Elizeu Good afternoon, I wonder if after triggering return home at typhoon h if it at the time of landing it fires the landing gear altomatically. Or the pilot needs to fire manually.
    thanks for listening

    Kind of a biased op-ed. I have owned both. I only have one brand now and it isn't DJI for a host of reasons. The 1" sensor on the Phantom 4 Pro does work well, BUT, If I don't want props in my shots, being able to control the camera 360 degrees while flying a mission solo or with 2 pilots on a shoot, retractable gear, and the redundancy of 6 motors is "gimmicky" I'll take it for $750 (to get these features from a DJI sUAV you get to spend $2000+ and still only 4 motors). DJI aircraft don't like to fly in really cold weather, the IMU heat isn't good enough for cold weather flying. We fly the Typhoons in 0 degree and colder weather without any worries. Also would like to add that the settings (ISO, WB, shutter) on the camera need to be set and locked, just as any small sensor camera that you are flying. Using auto settings does not work well. I've been flying full size and uav aircraft for over 35 years doing aerial photography film and digital, the Typhoon H is alot more capable than what you've shown here.

    hey did not leave the batt. is on the remote. Poor support from DJI. Yuneec is way more economical . Your camera info was incorrect.
