@Khalil Ty thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Same. I think it was a criticism that people without actual experience using one started parroting on gear forums. If you boost frequencies or up the gain on it, it's going to bring the noise floor up just like literally any other preamp/overdrive/boost pedal in existence. I own two stock GE-7s, and one Analogman modded one and they're all great. Analogman is a little less noisy but nothing noticeable enough in live or rehearsal environments imo. I'm perfectly happy using a stock Boss GE-7 just like Tom is in this rig rundown. Such an underrated little gem of the guitar world.
Yeah, I bought a used one on Reverb, already modded. No hiss. However one of the included mods was a brighter LED? Or something to do with the LED. Seems like that mod didn’t hold up as the light sporadically cuts on and off which is aggravating when utilizing minor settings in a studio situation. the company who did the various mods is alchemy audio, so maybe they aren’t the most reputable? I have no idea. But the pedal certainly sounds great and I use it far more than any other pedal. Not even close really.
Noise is present only when boosting. The more you boost, without cutting any frequencies, the more apparent hiss is going to be. Boss made changes to the parts at some point after 2010, so the newer ones are indeed less noisy.
My analogman modded came in today. One guitar, one amp, can get through a whole show. Thinking about getting a second to have two presets. And it never hurts having an extra master level in the chain.
I use the Boss GE7 the same way, just a slight eq adjustment above the middle line for the 800 and the rest underneath... works great as my always on pedal.
I have a Boss GE7, but it is a new one. The early version I had was a little noisy, depending on what you was using before it in the chain. My new one is virtually noiseless. Of all the effects and pedals i own I have to say this is the most important one. Just adds to something to your tone no matter what style you play. Just my opinion
Hey PG, does he use the Boss EQ as a boost BEFORE or AFTER overdrives? Or is he just boosting the front end of a already crunchy amp? This info would be really helpful. It's not mentioned in the video.
Looks and sounds to be after his drives. Drive pedals will already color the sound slightly, seems like logically it would be post OD for that reason. Yes, he has a little gain on his amp already. He mentions that in the full video.
Just Google 'Boss GE-7 mod' and you'll find several alternatives. They usually involve changing key capacitors and chips for higher-spec items to lower the noise floor and improve clarity. The AnalogMan mod allows you to run the pedal at 18 volts for more headroom. The explanation for the changes is quite involved, and varies from modder to modder, which I assume is why Tom didn't elaborate. (Alternatively, consider using a different, more modern design of EQ pedal.)
@@innocentoctave Yeah, got it. I was more laughing at his nonchalant non-tip, tip. And Bollinger was like "ohhh."...like he understood the cryptic response. haha.
@@wizaxed that was what made me laugh, was bollingers inquisitive and bewildered “ohhh”, like he’s a child and someone handed him the keys to the universe LOL
Q: what's the mod? A: Oh they just make then quieter followed by: this one isn't even modded but I got a bunch that are. Tom Bukovac, ha ha ha ha, what a dildo.
Personally I would find it extremely annoying without a mod, but I'm picky. If you go to the analogman website and look up their mod there's a 30 second video that shows you how noisy it is stock.
I had one for a bit. It's unreasonably noisy. I was mostly playing single-coil guitars back then, though. It's probably less pronounced through Tom's 335. If I get one again it will definitely be modded.

@Khalil Ty It worked and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much, you saved my ass :D
@Riley Abel glad I could help =)
Crazy, i used to use a BOSS EQ as my boost pedal for solos, way back in the day, because that's all i had.
It’s like we’ve had the tools we’ve needed all along
This my favorite rig rundown ever
BEST Rig Rundown EVER.
He's absolutely right about the boss EQ , I use it to boost my MXR Fullbore Metal Pedal , it makes it sound so much better than on its own.
The boss eq just adds a wonderful sheen to my whole sound whether boosting or just shaping. It was the most surprising pedal I ever plugged into.
I'd not heard of him before but his playing and tone are amazing!
most useful pedal ever for any rig and music style...period
I came back to the GE-7 as well. There’s a lot of cork sniffer stuff out there, but the Boss is just so useful
The boss eq is what jake E Lee said he used as a boost pedal in his ozzy days and badlands, great minds think alike l see
A great pedal on its own and also works well with other drive pedals!
Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
I've been using a Boss GE-7 for years, and I've never had a problem with hiss....
Maybe the earlier ones were noisier.

I have had mine since they came out. Definitely noisy, I installed a Monty Allums hi-fi upgrade and that made a big difference, great pedal.

false, they add noise if you move any slider in any direction. maybe not on the new ones
I've got the 10-band MXR. I'm gonna try this out!
Bukovac is a monster!
From the early days Slash used that pedal to boost all his solos. It adds a lot of hiss though so it’s better in a rock context.
His playing is unbelievable. A friend got me hooked.
0:55 From darkness to light!!😮

Does the analogman mod make it true bypass in addition to lowering the hiss?
@@vincecrow4512 GREAT question, I had the same. I don’t believe so but I in retrospect had wished I’d requested before ordering.
@@vincecrow4512 No, but the buffer is apparently improved as well in his modified version. I have one and it's awesome
I still have my old DOD version of the Boss.
👍👍

That was some amazing tone even after RUclips strangled it.

I see a Maxon/Ibanez PQ-9. That also is a great eq pedal!

Thank you for this, been trying some stuff since you posted Toms rig rundown trying to get some of those tones with the gear i have.
What's the mod "well, they just mod them and quiet them down"..."ohhh...". lol. Thanks for the tip, Tom!

YEP!
$40 ! We're you getting your Pedals Tommy Boy ?
Used
Does anyone know where's exactly placed Boss EQ in pedal chain? This information will really help me 💪
Wheres the best place to put it in the chain for lead boost -- after drives and before mods?
well so much for always getting new pickups, like joe b says, use your knobs,
The boss EQ was the first pedal my teacher told me about. All I knew was you were supposed to turn it on when you play a solo.
Original GE-10 is a big component to the secret sauce of the brown sauce
Does he uses the Boost/EQ before or after the overdrives?
Looking like in the middle. After OD yet before distortion. ???
Show Gostei Brother Irado 🏴☠️🆙️🏴☠️

I had mine modded to be quieter be Analogman. GE7 into Zendrive=Nirvana.

Boss Equalizer is now $120, maybe $75 used.
I must be lucky but my Boss GE-7 pedal is completely silent. In comparison, I have the MXR eq pedal, and that is noisy.
Gotta love that eq mod comment.
Plot twist: his pedal isnt even modded
Yep, he said he uses a regular $40 Boss EQ pedal but people feel the need to spend more money, even though Tom is happy with a stock version.
he said the boss EQ pedal is a 40$ pedal HAHAHAHA yeah maybe it was 40$ 30 years ago, I just bought one a week ago and it was 120$ plus tax
I don’t need to hear more to buy it now. 😊
Is it really “that” noisy? I know it depends on your rig.. but anyone have any insight on this? Thanks.
I could hear it. At home volume not very noticeable, but gig volume definitely. Would anyone in the audience notice it? Probably not.

“I love lo-fi totally goosed EQ’s” and they cut the mic. 😅
Legendas em português BR por favor!
Ha! I was right the famous Boss EQ ped is noizy!!! who pays for that? not I!
The paddle is not $40, but it should be.
