  • 5717 moving off from Murrurundi Station demonstrating "my" offset Chuff effect, where the 57 Class the Cylinder spacing was 109, 120 & 131 degrees producing a distinct CHUFF, chuff, chuff, CHUFF chuff etc sound. Experimenting with angles I finally settled with 45, 45 & 90 to simulate the Chuff I heard on 57 Class videos. See what you think. A Speedo Car is attached to show the loco speed. Top Speed of my 5717 is 30 MPH. Decoder is a Soundtraxx Tsunami Steam Light Logging.

The loco sounds really good, did you just use the soundtraxx cam on it?

Hi Bruce. I made my own Cam. Gerry Hopkins shows how to modify the 16 Lobe Cam that's one of Cams on the Soundtraxx Cam Card by removing 10 of the Lobes making it 45, 45, 90, 45, 45 & 90 degree spacing. While not prototypical, it makes the "offset" 3 Cylinder Chuff sound that Gerry & I wanted. See Gerry's 57/58 page at: www.nmra.org.au/Hints/5800/5808.html
      Regards Marcus
