Considering how horrid the entourages can be on "Say yes to the dress," Amy's friends did exactly the right thing--decided that they would go along with her choice because it's her dress, her wedding and they love her.
Yeah but in that Say Yes to the Dress show the entourage is doing the whole drama thing as an act. If they acted like I hope most do in real life (even if it's not my style or I don't agree with the decision it's her dress/wedding and what matters is that she enjoys it) the show wouldn't even last half a season.
Certainly it is plausible that they make a drama on purpose, but I knew a person who had accompanied her daughter to try on some dresses and she absolutely did not want to allow her to wear what she liked because she did not like it, I do not remember exactly what was about but i remember that I thought "is it your marriage or your daughter's?"
So even if some of the drama could be fake, I'm afraid that it isn't unrealistic...

The thing is, Amy does see that the first two dresses are conventionally pretty. She enjoys being pretty in them. But in the end she chooses a dress that is not conventional, has more like "Little House on the Prairie" vibes, and she loves it. It is hers. She feels good in it. She actually looks good in it! Not good like Penny, but good in her own way. That's what matters! (And the scene where Sheldon says he thinks she is beautiful in it is just so sweet!) get over yourself people, y'all are behaving like somebody is forcing you to where that dress to your own wedding!

The fucking point here is (and now I am not calm, fyi!, because I don't like it when people use such a condescending tone with me) that Amy is a woman who has been shamed, mocked, ridiculed throughout her whole life for her personality, likes, tastes, interests. She finally found "friends" (that term loosely applies to Penny and Bernadette), and a man who loves her the way she is! That is important! She chooses a dress she likes, in what she feels beautiful. It is by no way conventional, or fashionable, but it looks good on her, she feels good in it, the most important person in her life (her fiancé) thinks she looks beautiful in it, so what is the problem? The problem is that this show, although it is just a TV show, is still reflecting attitudes of the real world society, where a woman (or any person for that matter, regardless of gender) is mocked, shamed, and ridiculed for having tastes, interests, likes not exactly the same as the ones society expects from them (this attitude is shown throughout of the series by the way). What pisses me of is the fact that if let's say Leonard wants to do something geeky and Penny is being an ass about is every fan is going: "But that's what he likes! That's important to him! What a bitch!" The moment Amy does something not conventional? See the comments about her dress!

I did love those two first dresses but if I’m being honest, the dress she picked is absolutely amazing. I understand why some people would think it’s ugly but the details and lace and ribbons are perfect and the fact that Amy looked so happy just made it that much better.
Considering that dress is in the collection at a Bridal Shoppe it’s got to be an option more than one woman has chosen.
It’s not what I would choose but it could appeal to women with varied interests.

There are many young women that aren’t ‘modern conventional’. It’s better than see through middle, plunging backs, deep slits or clingy like a slip. Some dresses are only ‘sexy’. Save sexy for the two of you, later.
I absolutely agree. The 1 Amy chose is my favorite. I think it's gorgeous. Honestly I think it's more beautiful than the other 2 they were boring. And didn't look as good on her.

The priceless reaction to the dress was Sheldon's. He loved it and said she looked like a pile of swans. I loved this episode.
The fun thing is Sheldon, who has a terror of birds, saying that she looks like a pile of swans as a compliment.
I think the non-issue with Amy's dress is that it's so outside its time and place that it looks like a costume.
The thing to consider is that in a way, every wedding dress is a costume.
Am I the only one who liked the dress Amy picked? It's so unique and fairytale-like.
I like it. I'd get it for myself if I could make some minor modifications, ideally, but I'd take it as is if the only other choices were bland and boring like the first two dresses. But for Amy, it's just perfect, it fits her personality like a glove.

I have to admit, the dress Amy picked is kinda awful, but still can be fixed. The biggest problem is the mismatch between upper and lower part.
The upper part is 'Little House on the Prairie', but the lower part is too modern, since it's laser cut. The lower part should've also be classic like layered lace curtains.
But, then again, Amy wanted to be extravagant.
When Amy comes out after she tries the second dress she says "I LOOK FABULOUS IN ALL OF THE DRESSES" Like An Icon

My first thought when I saw this dress was the exact same as Penny & Bernie’s. However, thinking about it, given Amy’s love for “Little House on the Prairie,” it makes sense why she chose this dress. The dress gives off old western proper lady modesty vibes, and that’s totally Amy. Despite how STUNNING she looked in the other dresses. She stayed true to herself, which was clearly stated in the episode where she confronted Bernie about how a women in the field of Science should be celebrated solely for their contributions, and NOT their looks/body. This is despite any of us thinking that her choice of fashion had to with her mom. It was AWESOME to see her let loose though in the last season & show off her figure in a classy way.
Also Sheldon's reaction was adorable. I love them so much, they're so sweet!

I love Bernadette so much. Actually, out of everyone, I think she's the wittiest. She can outsmart Sheldon (just like when she said that Sheldon can take revenge on Howard if he do all the house chores)-that was genius!! Her character is amazing.
I can see why Amy loved her dress : let’s remember she likes a lot Victorian things, old romantic things like Pride and Prejudice, princess stuff, and this dress conveyed all of this : it was both princess-ish and in a Victorian style so it’s no surprise she liked it so much.

If I had to change one thing about the dress, it would be the skirt. The frills look like they are going all over the place. I'd have the frills be a bit more straight and go down the skirt in neater layers. I feel like that would give the dress a more Victorian vibe while also being a bit more modern.
I always thought it reflected pioneer times and went well with her love of the Little House on the Prairie series 🙂

Honestly, can’t Penny and Bernardette PRETEND to like the dress instead of coming clean? I mean, it’s really nothing to do with them how Amy looks, as long as she feels beautiful! Why can’t they just be like the Penguins in Madagascar - smile and wave? They are always so critical of Amy.
On the other hand, at least we know Sheldon genuinely thinks Amy looks beautiful in that dress and isn’t just saying it to make her feel better, because he doesn’t know how to do that! It was probably the sweetest moment of their entire relationship.

I definitely wouldn't want that my friends pretend to like my dress, when they actually hate it. I want to hear their opinion, why else would I take them with me searching for a dress. Other opinions can be helpful. And if I would find a dress that I really love but my friends not, then it wouldn't make any difference because I know I like it. I have to like it, not my friends. But as I said, I don't want them to pretend anything.

I liked the first dress the best. It was a tiny bit daring (loved the "both clavicles" bit), just enough for Amy. I was puzzled by her choice, but just as Penny and Bernadette did, I wanted Amy to be happy. I wish Penny hadn't told her she couldn't have the first dress she tried on. I bought the first one I tried on and never regretted it. Just like you did, Mayim!
Although the message here is a good one, that everyone likes different things (and I loved the episode) yet I really wish they gave Amy the kind of dress she doesn't wear, the kind where she flaunts her clavicles. Afterall she never got to do sexy things cause of her mother and restrictive upbringing. It would have been good character development.

Beauty comes in all forms and shapes. There's no one type of dress to define beauty in every woman. Every woman's style and personality is different. What's beautiful for Amy may not be for Penny or Bernadette. What's beautiful for Bernadette could be something Amy won't look twice at. At the day of the wedding, the bride is the star and she should be her happiest in the gown of her dreams. For Amy, this dress is it.

Like everyone is saying, those first two were pretty, and Amy honestly looked stunning in all of them ESPECIALLY the first and last ones. However, she was glowing so much in the last one, the bouncing of the ruffles and how she literally looked like she was fighting to stay still, her smile, looking at herself in the mirror and when she says “I do,” to Penny about whether she loves it or not, honestly just watching her was making me smile so much i just couldn’t help it.
I think Amy is trying to channel Scarlett O'Hara in that dress...
