Maxim Vengerov is, by far, my favorite violinist. This also happens to be one of my favorite compositions. Thank you very much for uploading this video!
@yamsters totally agree with you... he is an amazing player... his rendition of wieniawski's works is flawless... also kreisler, paganini, sarasate and well every violin virtuoso composer... it makes me think why looking at his face... when it all takes is to close your eyes and listen...
Christian Ferras, his is by far the most phenomenal and outstanding I have ever heard. If you haven't seen the video of him playing it I literally suggest you go and watch it right now.
It's so sad people today tend to pose as experts on matters they know nothing about and think, that making it SOUND like an expert will make it smart ;] On the other hand, it's comforting, that there are people, who can hear the real magic of music in performances of such talents as Vengerov.. Cheers to all Vengerov lovers ;) Oh, and the Abbado conducts this piece masterfully ^^
this is a m a z i n g and unbelievable playing! he becomes the figure that the music describes and conveys it to its utmost possibility! a one of a kind artist!
I keep trying to imagine what it must have been like to attend that concert - I don't think I've ever been so jealous of an audience in my life! If I become an emotional wreck just listening to a low definition recording of it, god knows what state I'd be in if I was listening to it live.
yes, Ferras Sibelius is something else, the tears he shed during the 2nd movement. its moments like that which are not easily forgotten. i understand where you are coming from now. im sorry if some of my comments have been aggressive. but while some stars shine brighter than others, each star in itself is individual and unique, that is all i would like to stress :D
Amazing capability. Absolutely the best player in the modern era. I wish I could listen to his Tzigane live. His tones are extremely powerful but still pure and ringing..... I don't know why people are concerned about his movements...God damn it! the stronger notes generated from his violin is done via using bow-arms own weight and the big muscles while playing "free-er". If he doesn't move how can he achieve this kind of power?
i agree with you that they are treasures. and i strongly believe that the Golden age of Violin Playing has come and Gone. And thats The true Greats that came before the vengerovs and repins and the hahns and the bells etc can never be duplicated. perhaps one day in the future we will have another Golden age. And i agree, bocelli and mae are not like the greats in any way, but they do cater to a wide audience.
This is a truly unique, sincere, wonderful interpretation. Purists will say that he does too much, moves too much, or maybe that he plays Vengerov instead of playing Tzigane by Ravel. But I say that he plays pure music, with pure and total implication. In my opinion, this man understands the very essence of the word "interpretation". Thanks for uploading!
Vengerov gives Tzigane a smoother, more stable feel, in contrast to Heifitz, Bell, Goto, etc. Personally, I like how he plays it way more than anyone else.
maxim vengerov is the best violinist in the world i have his album the 11 cds if you want me to send a video of something to youtube youst send a message
Well I'm not a big fan of Zigeunerweisen, and I haven't heard all the recordings there are out there (although I have heard many). I'd say in terms of pure gypsy-like authenticity Elman's is my favorite, though I also really like Heifetz's romantic approach. I'd have to listen to all the recordings out there to truly decide.
I don't know if I agree with you. There are still great violinists with original interpretations, it's just that you have to look harder to find them. Augustin Hadelich, for example.
a very good version. However, I have never heard a better one than Heifetz's. I assume Vengerov could play this piece as fast as Heifetz if he wanted to. But Heifetz gave the music a special "sound" , not just speed.
@yamsters 1/15th? Are you kidding? I'd put relative average talent at around 1/1,000,000. And he definitely does have his own interpretation; I think he really captures the insane, almost schizophrenic gypsy-style feel of the piece.
and another thing. you know Hilary Hahn said a great thing. people go to a concerto to see people perform and do well. if they don, if they go to see there person fail. they should not be there. it makes sense no?
Perhaps you need better speakers for your computer? (I don't say this to be derogatory, but just as a possibility.) It sounds great to me and I have an old set of Altec Lansing with subwoofer speakers. I guess subwoofer is the word, I'm not into the technology of sound.
I have a problem with people comparing violinist on a musical level because they don't "like" their interpretation of the music. that in itself is flawed BECAUSE there is no such thing as "THE BEST WAY" or even "THE ONLY WAY" to play a particular piece of music, so therefore there is no such thing as "THE BEST" violinist. you can have your taste an opinion, but please, stop comparing them musically and saying "this one is better then that". you would never hear that from perlmans mouth.
actually i am a professional. the only reason why i posted that comment is because you cannot compare violinist on that level of playing. sure you can have your own opinion, but when you are at the level of the greats like Szeryng , vengerov, kogan, perlman etc, it does not become a matter of who is "better" thats just not possible because there is not one way to play the violin. better to say that it is a matter of taste. Vengerov is a great player and a hard worker! he should get more credit.
Bizarre notion. Gypsy music suffuses European music, unthinkable without Sinto and Roma influence. Listen to gypsy music from Romanian folklore, spanish Flamenco to jazz. You find unbelievable renditions, not in an orchestral environment, but put across the cultural magnitude of this beautiful, persecuted people. That's like saying early blues recordings just don't sound so great. It's about feeling the intent and the emotions of a culture. Is anything more descriptive of human emotions.
i think midori plays it better than anyone i ever heard, jascha heifetz is my favorite violinist but i think he screwed this song up just like vengerov did right here
he's so into it... it's absolutely breathtaking
the face expressions show.....how deep the melody touches the player.....the result then is shown on the strings of the violin.......
marvelous little concert piece
Vengerov plays the hell out of it
wonderful interpretation of an old fave
Beautiful!Best Version!
WOW!PERFECT!He couldn't play it better!
i wish i can like this 12809093890 times. this is sooooooo good
Maxim Vengerov is, by far, my favorite violinist. This also happens to be one of my favorite compositions. Thank you very much for uploading this video!
Good stuff! He captures the essence of this piece wonderfully.
Ha ha, I'm SO glad to see this! Thank you! The BEST!
very dramatic indeed.
Loved every moment of it
definitely the best tzigane i have ever heard
just amazing :)
excellent just pure magic.......
No doubts... excllent performance, and a really great Violinist...

He plays like he's dancing !!!
ppl should sometimes learn the difference between their favorite interpretation and the best interpretation of all time
Fantastické!
Bravo Maestro a vďaka.
Anika
I wanna lesson!!! He is my violin hero!

Oh, and the Abbado conducts this piece masterfully ^^
las modulaciones de maxim son impresionantes ese violin suena a una alfombra voladora genial interpretacion
Ravel music is so amazing, and Vengerov played it so well. This such a wonderful orchetration...
The brillance of Vengerov is matched by Ravel's incredible insight into the unpredictable Gipsy character.
this is a m a z i n g and unbelievable playing! he becomes the figure that the music describes and conveys it to its utmost possibility! a one of a kind artist!
Wow he puts so much 'MMF!' to his playing!
The Best Tzigane!! :D
exceptionnel. brillantissime. le meilleur.
This is amazing,
His version speaks of loneliness, sadness and grief. Ponderously played, artfully interpreted.
BRAVO!
GREAT VIDEO!
I have never heard this piece played so amazingly in my entire life! I am astonished!
INCREIBLE ¡¡¡BRAVO!!!
incredibly wonderful
who can dislike this violin-god???????
Good🎉!
2:27 - 2:57 so magical and THAT e-flat at 2:33

Mind = Blown
Perfection! :)
the way he attacks this is amazing esp the opening
No, I've seen it, but this one excites me more
he is the best!!!
he was only 21 in this vid.. wow.. i wish i didnt leave this dvd at a hotel in ny now lol
wowsers. this made my day :)

Well said. He is a legitimate musician. He is with the music, not trying to add to it!
It's the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Claudio Abbado. You can't get much better than that!
best violinist !!!!

Ele se mexe muito, mas o som que tira do violino é demais, um canhão..
wow, siempre me ipresionas,
I wish he give me a lesson sometimes...
💖
I like the faces he makes.
whatever comes after fantastic,thats Vengerov
The best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He really gets "gypsy"! Superb interpretation.
he is to good to be true
May i know the symphonic orchestra accompanying Mr Zengerov? They sound wonderful, impeccable cooperation there!
The only problem I have with this video is the sound quality...come on, this kind of music should be high def!
Though it seems impossible, I think vengerov's playing has got better over the years because he doesn't always crash or over exert his vibrato
with his interpretation, I actually have an image/vivid pictures in my head. I can actually understand it. Unlike other interpretations..
yeah hes so good that i have bought his 11 cd box. have anyone of you did that.
good god how does he remember a song piece like that in the beggining lol
It's amazing how good he sounds with such extreme and unnecessary movement....
@Flajole1979 Oistrakh was a great violinist. Vengerov is a good violinist.
what happened to the hq version of this? it used to be on here, but now i can't find it. :(
doesnt come any better than this
Vengerov gives Tzigane a smoother, more stable feel, in contrast to Heifitz, Bell, Goto, etc. Personally, I like how he plays it way more than anyone else.
@benjaminlooi I think you should hear the Erick Frieman version. Its not on youtube, but there is other pieces. check it out
lol
If you say so...
By the way? what version of Zigeunerweisen do U like most?
but where is the other video in HD???
not forget the video quality
Henryk Szeryng version is also really great, I think I prefer it with piano accompinement rather than full orchestra
who's performance do you like for the Tzigane?
maxim vengerov is the best violinist in the world i have his album the 11 cds if you want me to send a video of something to youtube youst send a message
To me it is the best performance, even better than Oystrakh...

tobiasundry vengerov is wayyyyy better than him
I just don´t understand why you were looking at his face !!!!
The first thing is music, then music and after all, Music
a very good version. However, I have never heard a better one than Heifetz's. I assume Vengerov could play this piece as fast as Heifetz if he wanted to. But Heifetz gave the music a special "sound" , not just speed.
haha the way he finishes= sit down haters...sit down..
is he playing a strad?
@xDwepee will be?
why do I imagine a witches dance, this song is like performing magic in front of a cauldron, dont you think so? well it's just my imagination
@yamsters 1/15th? Are you kidding? I'd put relative average talent at around 1/1,000,000. And he definitely does have his own interpretation; I think he really captures the insane, almost schizophrenic gypsy-style feel of the piece.

What a structure does it have? it's a RHAPSODY!
and a rhapsody should be story-like, it doesn't supposed to have a structure
@MyTunerLock the berlin philharmonic filed some copyright shit against it so youtube took it down
if you play any instrument you´ll know that is impossible don´t make gestures when you really feel the music n_n

@bertxo no way...
But, it sounds fine
