I first started shaving in 1966 when I was 16 and I used a Wilkinson Sword razor and their blades, at that time the blades were made in Sheffield and they were excellent. I used those Wilkinson blades for the next 9 years but I'd joined the Royal Navy in 1971 and whilst serving on a frigate in 1975 a Force 12 gale convinced me that shaving was a dangerous pastime and I grew a full beard and didn't shave regularly for the next 45 years. Time rolls on to 2022 and I decided to start shaving again, and it has now become a hobby or even an obsession, and I started with those Wilkinson Sword blades that I've discovered are made in Germany. I soon gave up on them as they were tuggy but I thought rough and caused wee nicks and cuts. I haven't tried the Gillette Wilkinsons yet because I don't think they're widely available over here but I think they're sold on eBay so I'll give them a go. 👴👴⚓⚓👴👴
I'm new to wet shaving, my go to blades are feathers, currently on vacation and picked these up in a store But they felt too mild and tuggy glad to see I'm not the only one Great review!
Great shave today! I like the Indian Saloon one best of the two (Like you); even though they are both mild. I use the Saloon one to blade-down an aggressive razor. Thanks for watching! Have a great week and stay safe! 🤙 #WAD
@@lawrence1mdwhy the German ones cost more ? Maybe due to better packing? What a shame same company charging way more in Europe for inferior quality of blades..why can't they introduce saloon pack India in Europe? 😂

The India made Wilks are good, just have to watch out for the Chinese made ones I find then quite tuggy, quick way to recognize them is they don't have "Saloon" on the cover.👍😎🤟
Just bought 100 Gillette/Wilkinson blades. Packet has several addresses; China and India. Two sources say India. If I'd known India beforehand, I probably would not have bought them, but 5 shaves before finding this , I must admit their quality. Two shaves were with different unbranded razors- 1 butterfly and 1 3 piece. Both were really aggressive. Shaves 3-5 were with Rockwell 6c. First shave was trying different settings, ran out of face at #5. Will try # 6 later. Shaves 4 and 5 were at #5 and were best shaves of my life. I'm 71 and been shaving a while. Score 1 India, 0 old shaver. Guess I ought to not pre-judge. These are my first DE shaves in many years as I've been a straight razor user. Skin is getting older and thinner and getting more irritation. Time for a change. Success on third razor and first blade. Mug and brush work well with DE.
I prefer the Indian Wilkies over the Germans as well, which is convenient because they're so cheap! Just the other day I realized that my left cheek was smoother than my right after the first pass. I'm right handed, and usually start on my right cheek. I checked it a few times, and it's a pattern. Thinking it was better technique on one side, I tried switching which side I started on, and then my right side was smoother. I can only guess that the side that has cream on it longer has better prep, and that's why it's shaving better. But now I'm thinking about all those blade sample wars I did on the left & right side. I think I need to start from scratch, and do both sides simultaneously with a razor in each hand! What do you think? Have you ever noticed a difference in smoothness based on which side you start on?
Hey Lee thanks for stopping by. I wonder if one hand is more sensitive and can pick up the stubble better than the other. Or do you feel with one hand? I haven’t really noticed but will have to test that out. Thanks for watching!
My wife wet shaves now. We switched because of the price of cartridges and plastic waste. She uses a Henson mild. She also uses a PAA shave soap and brush. She loves leg lathering. She says the Henson gives her the best shave of her life.
It's funny because the shaving forums all say the one from India is no good and the German one is great. And the German one costs 4x as much. But I find the blade from India gives a terrific shave and they are so inexpensive. I wonder if the German one lasts longer and/or gets sharper on 2nd and 3rd shave?
I have wondered how a blade can become smoother on the second shave. Do they spray too much coating on the cutting edge? Inquiring minds want to know : ) thanks for watching Andy!
I have only tried made in Germany Wilkies and I confirm that the blade gets sharper after the first shave. For me shave 2-4 are smooth, 1 and 5 the blade is tugging but it is not horrible.
You are a good man brother. Hope things go well with you whatever it is. Gillette Wilkinson swords are the first blades I bought. Looking into getting a Rockwell 6s
I've worked my way through a 100 pack of Chinese Wilkinson Sword blades in the past. They are adequate won't buy going forward. My current favorites are Ladas and Dorco Prime. When the burden of owning 2 GC 0.84s becomes overwhelming, let me know.
Did you know you can find GameChangers on Amazon? I do have the GameChanger jaws in .68 & .84 if your interested in one of those. I need to try the Ladas blades. Thanks for watching Patrick!
I've noticed lately that a lot of blades give a more comfortable feel with the second use. I wonder if that trick of running the blade through a cork would give a similar result? Are you up to trying it in a comparison Matthew?
Watched this on Thursday night, so whatever the thing was, I hope it went well! Anyway, this was a great comparison. I'd heard good things about the Gillette Wilkinson Sword in the past but never tried it. The German Wilkinson Sword was the first double edge blade I ever used, in a Wilkinson Classic (I think)... their latest razor that's a re-branded Weishi 9306. That combo was WAAAAAYYY too aggressive for me at the time. I recently tried that blade again (in a Merkur 34c) though, and compared to my usual Astra Superior Platinum, I liked it a bit better. A bit. If you had told me it was an Astra, I would have assumed it was just a good one (because mine seem to vary a little). Anyway, I really like how this series of videos is playing out. By the way, nice move with the two-fisted shaving! Here's a challenge for you: work on that a bit more and then do an entire shave like that. 😝😝 All the best man, I hope whatever it was worked out well for you.
I've been thinking about trying those blades in the Saloon Pack from India. Your video convinced me to give them a try. My only concern is that I've read reviews saying the blades are made in China and India. So, I don't know for sure which ones I'll actually receive? Sending good vibes for whatever you have coming up!
@@lawrence1md Right. But I've read reviews where folks complain that they thought they had ordered blades made in India only to discover that the ones they received were actually made in China. There's no way to know until you get them. Ordering from Amazon is best because if they aren't from India, one can return them for free with Amazon Prime.
From my understanding the Gillette Wilks Saloon blades are made in the Gillette factory in India where a number of other Gillette blades are made including 7o'clock Black and Winner.🤠
