I'm from Caribou, Maine, born in 1961. I spent a lifetime riding in northern Maine, Aroostook County. The gest snowmobiling ever...IMO! Glad to hear people from other parts of the country talk about snowmobiling in Maine!!

We usually go to the UP every February, but because this winter has been such a disaster that wasn’t possible, and Maine was one of the only spots that seemed rideable.
We stayed in Caribou and if it’s this good on a bad, low snow winter this place must be epic on a normal year! Heading home tomorrow unfortunately, but it’s been a great trip. Ran the border trail, rode across Long Lake and had an awesome lunch at Long Lake Bar and Grille. Visited some really helpful, quality dealers, especially the Polaris dealers in Caribou and Presque Isle. Just a great time. We will be back!
If you know someone who maintains the trail, give him our regards because they should be proud. What they were able to achieve with what they had to work with was incredible! Unless they’re from Van Buren, 😂 rough week up there.

You’re right, the 90’s was the best for sledding, especially in northern Ontario when lodges were full of people and sleds. And the lil restaurants in the middle of the bush serving the best food ever and you could only get there by snowmobile. Ah the good ole days eh. Thanks again fellas for another great video.

I think they had much to do with competition in the snowmobile industry, every company made a snowmobile, which kept prices down because of competition. It is extremely difficult to get into the sport due to the high expenses involved

Glad to see that you guys finally visited our little paradise in the North East. Too bad you did not go a tad more East to visit Rangeley, ME as well. Like Pittsburg, Rangeley is a huge snowmobile hub. A lot of riders ride between the 2 destination because there is so much snow and incredible trails, views, lodging and great food. I'll be in Pittsburg this weekend with one of my sons. I have been raising my children up on snowmobiling and take them every year to Pittsburg or Rangeley. All of them has had their first ride around 3-4 yrs old. I hope SnowTrax comes back again for another visit!!

I was going to say there are areas you can ride off trail, but please don't do it just anywhere. Most areas you definitely cannot ride off trail without the chance of losing trails from upsetting the land owners. Please make sure you are in an area where it's allowed.

Just remember in Maine, that if the trail is clearly marked, STAY ON IT. There are some landowners who lose their minds if you so much as go 5 feet off the groomed sections.
East of Mt Kineo at Moosehead lake, a section of trail was shut down outright for the better part of this season, because some sleds drove over a log pile that was covered in snow. While yes, doing that does zero harm... the landowner had the trail clearly marked with STAY ON TRAIL signs and this request was ignored... consequently the only way to get from one side of Moosehead lake to the other via the trail system, was to go completely around the lake through Pittson Farm and NorthEast Cary to Kokajo. This turned a

@@chucknorris277 Thankfully here in Maine we have a SWEET landowner liability law. Basically, unless you make booby traps or create some kind of hazard to intentionally hurt people (or don't mark a known hazard, like an open well) and someone comes on your land and gets hurt, it's not your fault. Which seems pretty obvious... but attorneys will attorney.
It's a little different for commercial property, but as a private landowner, you can't be held responsible because someone yeets their sled off a natural cliff on your land and dies.

Just a quick correction. It’s great here in Maine, though you CANNOT just jump off trail anyplace you please! Landowners don’t appreciate that and since we rely on the generosity of landowners for our very trails, best not piss ‘em off! We’d like to keep our trails open, thank you very much! We also don’t have a speed limit here, as opposed to New Hampshire’s 45 mph. They conveniently failed to mention that in their story. Looks like they failed to abide by that law in many parts as well!

How come there isn't a dual registration you can buy that will allow you to go back and forth between states . You don't need to register your vehicle in every state you drive in ? The money that could be spent on fuel , food and lodging with someone able to ride from Errol to Rangley not just on a reciprocal day or weekend would I believe offset any missed registration fee .

No speed limit in Maine on the trails as long as you remain right of center and in control enough to stop if a fish and game officer pops out and flags you to stop. do not lock up the track and cross centerline of trail or you will get a ticket. but go 100 mph all you want just stay in control of your machine, and ride within the limits of terrain, surroundings, visibility, and skill level. And have fun. Maine rocks I love NH also, just 45mph speed limit is a bit hard to follow and still stay warm and awake.....lol

I live in NH only thing that sucks is we can’t off trail. Unless you know owners of land. So Maine is a lot better if off ttrail is your thing

you'll forget about that no income/sales tax thing when you start paying NH's property taxes. it evens out.
