I'm pretty sure that Ib is one of the reasons why a lot of people got into horror RPG maker games. It's so nostalgic hearing the soundtracks again such as when you first enter the dungeon, Garry's theme, and even the game over tune. The art style is more pixelated now; it somewhat resembles the more recent rpgmaker games which is cool, but I think the original sprites would have been more fitting for the game's ambience. Some puzzles have been added in and/or altered such as the fishtail room, Liar's Room, teacup room, etc. As I'm typing this, I'm waiting for Manly to reach the doll room. In my opinion, that was quite possibly the best, worst, and most iconic part of this game that many players remember. Anyways, I have so much love for this game and I would like to thank Kouri for the memories. Edit: For the people who are interested, I've compiled some more horror RPGmaker-style games. - Mad Father - Witch's House - Blank Dream - Corpse Party - Misao - The Crooked Man (strange men series) - Mermaid Swamp - Paranoic - Paranormal Syndrome - Off - Bevel's Painting - Fleshchild - hello? hell...o? - Densha - Alice Mare (Miwashiba games) - The God of Crawling Eyes - Hello Charlotte - Mogeko Castle (Deep Sea Prisoner games) - Dreaming Mary - Dear Red - Angels of Death - Ao Oni - Forest of Drizzling Rain - Yume Nikki - The Mirror Lied - Pocket Mirror - Hide and Seek - The Desolate Hospital - Purgatory (manly approved 👌) - Cat in the Box - Re:Kinder - Insanity - Palette - Witch's Heart - Dudley and the Mysterious Tower - Aria's Story - Imaginary Friends - It Moves - Viviette - Seven Mysteries: The Last Page - Stitched - Skinwalker - Project Kat (paper lily) - Underworld Capital Incident - Huntress of the Hollow - Dear (ochabashira) - Sukutte - Chloe's Requiem - Symbiosis - It's Not Me, It's My Basement - When Yanderes Cry - Ann (rongrong) - Turtlehead: Unmasked - Nightmare of the Snow - The Well Speaks to Me - Custodial - Spider's Web - Libretta (look up vgperson 😊) - Omori - Hazmat - Desperate Love Feast - The Child (Kiki & Ana) - From Next Door - Rust and Blood Honorable Mentions - Re:Turn (one way trip) - Distraint - Stray Cat Crossing - Your Turn to Die - Nobody's Home - Lavender - Lily's Well - Lisa series - Don't Die - Traümerei - 3rd Eye - Red Bow - My Big Sister - B*x - Space Funeral TBH just go watch all of Manly's videos from like 2013-2016 and then 2020
Yes! Ib and Mad Father for me, and that lead to many more. I'm still too chicken to play horror games myself but it made me appreciate them for their story and characters and showed me not all horror games are just purely zombies and jumpscares. I'm really happy a lot of them get a remake every now and then so they're not forgotten
I still remember when i was happy too in that old wild internet, watching the average youtuber jumping from their chairs in front of games like Ao Oni. It was the golden era of indie horrors.
@@joegaddy2030 I've consulted the ancient texts and this is what I managed to translate to the modern tongue: "But back then I couldn't read the words so well¹, but still, this was a good memory of the bird explaining scribbles.² Such a phase somehow stuck around.³ Nonetheless, these dead games return. Wow, this has been quite the interesting journey!" ¹ - they weren't very good at reading or interpreting english, so the game was difficult to understand. ² - the "bird" is referring to Manly who would read the original game's dialogue, dialogue which Ryan saw as "scribbles" since they couldn't read. Refer to ¹. ³ - the phase of RPG horror games from the early 2010's stuck around to the present day.
I can't imagine how long it took to add all of Gary's new and unique dialogue, but I'm grateful all the more for it! I was always worried that masterpieces like Ib would fade into obscurity given enough time, so I'm very happy to see its been updated. It's awesome to see manly coming full circle returning to this game, it makes it all the more special. Thank you manly for all your dedicated playthroughs, not all heroes wear capes. Some keep their souls in empty trashcans.
The earlier version doesn't feel like it has enough, to be honest. I feel thankful for creator to put it every room and every interacting as much as possible.
Coming back to Ib after so many years passed since the "classic RPG Maker horror" era has both hit me with a wave of nostalgia and the realization that the plot of Ib is literally the Backrooms before the Backrooms were a thing.
I completely forgot about this game. It just receded deep into the back of my mind. I never considered how so many games had a "backrooms" plot setup. How many RPG maker horror games are there? I only know of Witch's house & Mad Father...
@@chee.rah.monurB there are lots! it was a really popular genre back in the early 2010s. I remember the corpse party series being one of the more prominent ones (it also has a very backrooms feel to it so I'd recommend it if you like that genre). Yume Nikki was also a really popular one, although I never played it myself so I don't know much about it. Some more recent horror games like Omori and quite a few smaller games I've seen on Manly's channel such as It's Not Me, It's My Basement are also made with RPG maker, though they don't quite have the same vibes as the old ones imo. Still good though and definitely worth checking out if you like the aesthetic!
Fun tip: for puzzles that mention that there is only one telling the truth, if one says that another is telling the truth, you can automatically disqualify both.
@@allingquilatonestacion4353 By saying that another is telling the truth, it would mean that there are 2 things telling the truth instead of the ONLY one clause.
@@eugenethoong1837 ohhh, so when one says something and another supports it, it is basically contradicting the rule/saying of, "only ONE tells the truth."!! Thanks for the clarification! My average IQ mind is going through a lot since Exam week had just ended today for little ol' me waaaaa~ TT
@@josiahjacinto4156 25 here! I still remember RUclips back during my teens, holy moly what a nostalgia trip! The Ib Remake just unlocked a billion memories for me. Games like To The Moon and that horror game with the big purple-headed guy (god I cant remember the name), and old references too like Stefano and Barrels. Also "🎶 BATTERIES, when the morning's gone and you cant go on, BATTERIES 🎶"
@@HJKampe yo, finally... Finally someone said his name. Ever since a few years ago, it's like everyone forgot his existence. Everyone didn't know the one with that o-o mask is not only Dream. I wonder where he is and what he does now...
The remake was announced months ago actually. The official Japanese version came out on April 11th with a Steam page for it well prior to release, and Kouri also stated that they would be overseeing the official English translation for Steam as well.
Ib is truly THE classic RPG maker horror game, I remember watching pewdiepie play this when i was a kid, the twist, art style, music and the feeling of trap inside a museum, everything is so real and unreal at the same time kinda makes me want to keep lost inside the mystery world.
ACTUALLY, IB, WITCH’S HOUSE AND MAD FATHER were the ones to introduce me to Manly. I really enjoyed Manly’s gameplay style and commentary. Other RUclipsrs at the time would shout and scream while Manly was calm and collective which I really liked about him. 🥹🫶 This Remake means the whole world to me. Thank you Manly for everything.
I feel the exact same way. This remake is fucking glorious already and I havent seen a second of the video. I was literally talking to a friend yesterday about how mad father & witch's house got crazy good remakes, but nothing for Ib... I GOT MY WISH I GUESS
I think I found Manly thanks to Angels of Death or Death Mark. But, I started liking him because of what you said : he's calm and collected when playing, not screaming or shouting (well, juste rarely doing so). But I would also say : he looks at everything to make sure he doesn't miss something. I can't look at any other playthrough if it's not him because I'm getting irritated when the player his just ... '' wild '' in anyway.
"And now for the appearance of the best character" Ah, a youtuber of culture. Anyway, man, what a classic! Looking back it's probably the reason I started playing horror games, so it's great to see it get a (ahem) new coat of paint after all this time.
Hey Manly! I've been watching your videos for nearly ten years now, and though it's not much, I just wanted to give a little thanks. I adore horror games and your videos always help me feel better when times get rough. Ib is one of my favorite horror games of all time and I'm so happy that you're playing the remake! Thank you again for all your hard work!
@@Haru-rs2su I don’t know about on desktop, but if you’re on the youtube app, if you swipe across the options (like, dislike, etc) there will be a thanks option which looks like a heart with the dollar symbol in the center of it. Hope this helps.
"A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one!" I love Ib, and I'm happy to see they added some things while sticking close to the original art direction, which felt just perfect for me. The adding of lighting enhances the gallery and creates an ever better ambience. Can't wait to see part 2!
Manly's IB All Endings was the first video I watched of him. Of course at the time I was watching Markiplier play this game and I just wanted to see what other endings there were. Never would have thought years later ManlyBadassHero would be my favourite youtuber and let's player.
Same story here, except I was watching Cryaotic. Super nostalgic, and I'm loving the bonus interactions with Garry! I never did get de-obsessed with him.
I watched Pewdiepie and got the game to play all endings myself, so I didn't meet Manly for many years after that. Still, in college he's a routine, and now he's an all time fav that I recommend to any close friend. They became fans too. :)
That was also the first video I ever watched of Manly, specifically because I wanted to see what happened next and Markiplier didn’t upload the next part yet. Truly this game brought so many of us to such a badass hero.
The first “big girl” game I’ve played. Not a flash game from Cartoon Network , not preinstalled purple place, Here is where my nerd eyes for story games and creepy horror opened. I look forward to seeing garrys manly war cries in 4K
Man watching manly play the remake for this game is actually giving me such a nostalgia trip. Growing up my parents didn't have money for consoles so the only options 12/13 year old me had for video games were games like Mad Father and Ib. I would always get stuck for one reason or another (I wasn't the best at puzzles) and it was always Manly's playthroughs that helped me get through them. Ib was also my favorite out of all the og rpg maker horror games and it still is even now, so watching him play it again after almost 10 years is making me feel some kind of way.
That dream sequence got one hell of an overhaul. Originally it was a series of rooms with three enemies in the final room, but this one goes for a more trippy vibe with multiple copies of various objects and then the Lady Gazing at Emptiness charging at Ib in that thin hallway. Also that room where Ib and Garry get locked in got a bit of a change too. Originally there was a window that had to be blocked or else a Lady in Blue would've broken through. But it seems they decided to remove that as well as any interactable objects other than the Reserved Seat, the painting of Ib's parents and that strange note near the wall. The remastered sprites and portraits as well as rearranged and reimagined rooms are amazing, but I feel like some changes aren't going to be for the better given that muscle memory is a thing, but who knows.
@@ikram1572 yeah, but it was still fun to see. I used to be so hype for the Russian Mogeko Sequel since the trailer was so hype, butttt 10 years later and still nothing lol. But from what I know there's an entire extended universe of Mogeko castle lore that gets deeper. Sorta reminds me of Ruina.
These remakes surprise the hell out of me cuz I'm in college rn and I watched Manly, Pewds, and other youtubers' playthrough of OG RPG horror games during my primary to middle school days. Can't believe it's been several years already since the 1st versions been released
YES! I'm so happy "Ib" actually got a remake for itself as well. "Ib" was actually the few that introduce me to the other popular rpgmaker horror games. I enjoyed it's different routes and endings! What makes "Ib" so special! I did enjoy it's old gritty or "Tim Burton" vibe art style from it's older counterpart. I also remembered they did change up Gary's ending which was extra... (Honestly, did not like how some ended because he comes the "Forgotten Portrait." Or the others. Not to spoil too much.) Too long to read, but glad to see this once again being relevant! YYEEESSSS!
Ib is a true classic, one that has stood the test of time. This remake exposing it to new people is wonderful, and I'm quite happy to see this Let's Play. All your previous videos on Ib are from before I found the channel so it feels nice to get to experience such a wonderful game with your commentary. Thus far, all the new additions and tweaks look great; pretty curious what that bonus for seeing all the paintings will be too.
I love this sort of update where we can read the paintings now with Garry in the party. I also enjoy the conversations with Garry interacting with the world.
Man, I didn't realize just how long I've been around this channel,, I was around when all the original Ib videos were up, and I remember watching those after watching some popular let's-player (i think it was Markiplier) and wishing someone would go more in-depth. That's how I found one of my favorite channels (an incredibly manly and badass one that's run by an equally manly and badass hero)
Ah, Ib. I remember this whole game was depressing to me back in college. Even the good ending felt depressing. I mainly attribute it to the melacholic, yet beautiful OST.
I'm so glad that Ib is one of the few things from when i was younger that still holds up I've had so many disappointments where something i loved as a kid turn out to be trash or just like in poor taste But i remember as a kid thinking garry was the best. and now in my 20s i still think garry is the best
fun fact about garry: the creator wanted him to be the kind of guy who transcends the boundaries of gender. good for him i respect him and his ladylike mannerisms edit: to clarify, its something that's more obvious in the japanese version of the game. "why do you talk like a lady" basically refers to speaking patterns that are difficult to translate, such as the pronouns he uses for "I" and "you" (which, of course, in English, we only have one version of I and you). if you dont get it its because its lost in translation. oh, the struggles of localization.
One of the extra artworks he made depicted Gary in a yukata (a traditional dress for women in Japan). It’s super cute and I love how Gary canonically dresses in feminine clothes!
@@Transformers2Fan1 Yeah, I have to agree on this one. He's already fine as he is, he doesn't even seem to depict feminine traits, he's literally just a decent and normal person all throughout, such as most people are in real life. I really dislike it when people highlight his quality traits for being feminine or liking cross-dressing when those really aren't quality traits, neither should it be assumed that he's doing it to be 'the odd one out of a society'. Some people are textbook straight and simply like the fashion of the opposite sex, it's more common than people think despite whatever what society tells, as it is basic curiosity. Also dislike it when designers make someone really physically feminine...I know inter-sex people do exist or that art can be stylized, and I don't really mind it, but having to emphasize on the fact that they're inter-sex or that they like certain things that are 'out of the ordinary' without any actual reason other than to appeal to other people, it becomes quite cringe. I really hope that the artists don't make him purposefully feminine without a legitimate reason other than for the sake of it. Although, if the reason why it's highlighted was because it was set in a specific time where it was unreasonably gendered, (since y'know, Japan has a pretty biased history among all other things), I think that's understandable. But again, those aren't defining traits of a character, especially in a story such as this.
@@Transformers2Fan1 people like me make a big deal about it because of the good representation. why would you suddenly nope out if he was genderqueer? that doesn’t really change anything about him, its just some added fun facts/trivia and gives more depth to his characterization. plus i expected him to be at least queer even before i knew what the word was and i was right.
You don’t need to point out to people a character is a certain way. Most people can clearly see the intent behind a characters design just from looking. If you HAVE to put a spot light on that character and have a billion little arrows pointing out that character is different its off putting to people. The general consensus at this point in history is “we get it, ya’ll exist. Do you want a reward for existing?” No one would bother you if you just went about your day but you always want to stand out.
This is tied with The Crooked Man for my favorite RPG maker horror game. Cooked man because it really shows how far gone someone can get with depression and I relate to David a lot. Ib because of the incredibly unique gameplay and amazing art style. Both are timeless classics in my opinion.
Man, IB makes me go on a HUGE nostalgia trip. Back in the days I was first discovering about the world of Rpg maker games and everything was fresh and new. Goes well with Witch's House, Mad Father and others. Still, IB was my favorite of all of them because of how many endings and all the creepy stuff you had in it and also the fact IB is way less focused on jumpscares like the others, but focused on keeping a general creepy factor while also delivering a beautiful story, relatable characters and a nice museum to walk around. I'm just happy that more people will be able to play / watch this masterpiece now. I miss 2012 so fucking much, If you excuse me i'm gonna go cry in the corner.
@@pinkpugginz Im so happy new people are experiencing this game. If you REALLY enjoy it, consider playing the original as well, the old graphics add to the atmosphere.
I have a lot of affection for this game, since not only did I watch let's players play it, I wound up playing it myself to get all the endings (this was before I found channels like you that had all endings, and I think there were only like two at the time with more added later). I actually replayed this a couple of years ago and still loved it just as much, so I am so happy to see there's an expanded remake now. With Garry's speech, it's hard to translate exactly, but how it was explained to me is he uses what's called "lavender language", which in older Japanese gay communities is basically the equivalent of a gay lisp in the US. I recall being told, but can't remember the source so don't quote me on this, Kaori wanted to strongly imply that Garry was gay, partially because they felt that it would make the idea of a grown man partnering with a little girl seem less likely to make people uncomfortable if it seemed like he couldn't possibly have any interest in her even as a female. (Garry is also one of my favorite characters in video games, certainly my favorite in RPG horror games. I had a really pretty desktop wallpaper of him and Ib for like a year back in the day.)
i think the exact intention is to make garry more feminine/gender non conforming with his language, i think. if kouri wanted to make Garry gay, that's real neat! though that certainly didnt stop shipping garry with....a literal child. yeesh. i hope that part of Ib doesnt come back.
@@nehozakuz Also, as for Garry being GNC, I seem to recall in some of Kouri's art pieces they did of the characters here and there, especially one of them dressed up in yukata for a festival, they tended to have him wear more feminine clothes sometimes, or would draw him in both masculine and feminine versions of things.
Ahh i knew it! I read about him calling himself "i" but in a feminine way in the original japanese translation and how the creator/illustrator of ib would draw him in feminine clothing ect ect. Love him for that
I love the way you subtly changed the way you do Gary's voice after Ib's comment at 1:04:32. The way you voice act characters is something that always makes your videos stand out, but it's so cool to see you change it in response to info the game provided. So happy to see this game once again after so many years. I keep looking back at old letsplay videos comparing the remake to the original. It's one of those peculiar situations where I remember it looking more like the remake than like the actual original game? Funny how everything always looks better in your memory.
Ib was what introduced me to my favourite horror game genre, it's so special to me to see it updated like this. Kouri did an amazing job!! Its so awesome that vgperson did the eng translations for the game again, too!
Can’t wait for part 2 of this. Ib in my opinion is the best rpgmaker game, and it’s also the one that lead me to Manly’s channel! So seeing Manly’s channel growth and the remake of Ib is just great
Hey manly, just wanted to say your channel has been a major part of my life for the past at least 8 years, I was pulled out of public school and cyberschooled right before middle school, and eventually I made my way here. For about 3 or more years I watched on and off, but at least for the past 5 (minimum. probably around 7ish or more) I've watched every day (or if i missed a few days due to life, I picked a weekend to get caught up) and when I heard Ib was getting a remake it filled me with a lot of nostalgia (for a lack of a better word.) I'm super excited for what the rest of the remake has in store
@@SoftToma Not just that, he uses lavender language in general IIRC, implying that he is gay/queer. kouri apparently didn't want people to be uncomfortable about Ib's and Garry's friendship
@@Mldy96 Is the lavender language he uses only in japanese, or did some of the phrases get translated? I thought it felt really random when ib asked why gary talked like a lady, but figured it was just context lost in translation.
@@SmartyPoohBear So, I remembered vgperson did a FAQ about the English translation and this particular topic, so here's a copy-paste of that as RUclips hates links in comments nowadays: "Garry totally talks like a lady. He uses "atashi" to refer to himself and speech patterns considered feminine ("onee," similar to lavender linguistics), which associates him with the LGBT community. kouri also drew Garry in a kimono once with a comment about "wanting to cross the barriers of gender." I feel the main intent was to make Garry kind of a "big sister" figure to Ib - as he says, it's better to be gentle. Naturally, I didn't want to go overboard and make him sound like a homosexual caricature or anything. It's hard to strike the right balance of avoiding that and still having people pick up on it, but, you know. Engliiiiish. To be clear, Garry is explicitly referred to as a man in three places in Japanese: the line where you first find him ("the man is holding a key"), Mary asking if Garry is Ib's dad, and Forgotten Portrait ("a sleeping man"). Thus, while Japanese doesn't have to use pronouns like "he" and "she" if it doesn't want to, the game telling us he's male implies that the characters would use "he" to refer to him in English. It's strictly Garry's personal pronoun ("I," "me"), atashi, that's feminine, which says nothing definite about how Garry actually identifies (gay men will use it, for instance); still, there's room left for interpretation."
It makes more sense in gendered languages, which Japanese is to an extent. Also compare the concept of a "bokukko", (usually) a tomboy that uses "boku", a male word for "I", instead of a more feminine "I" like "atashi".
Actually teared up a bit seeing this, Ib is my favorite game from this genre, I used to listen to the OST as a kid to help fall asleep or to help relax. I hold it very near and dear to my heart and to see a remake of it is enough to make me cry
I've been waiting for this remake for so long especially more so when I heard it was confirmed. I defiantly love the new content and how the interactions when talking to Gary feel more organic, also the fact that Gary doesn't like the moving manikins and gives more emphasis on that than the original did. because in the original game there was like 2 interactions where he wanted to damage the art pieces rightfully out of fear and defense until IB tells him otherwise or he stops himself last minute.
I grew up with this channel so seeing IB was definitely a trip down memory lane, I think one of the first ever videos I saw Manly play was Dreaming Mary. I was so interested that after watching that video I’d spend many nights watching all his other videos as a child.
Literally *just* wrapped rewatching his Dreaming Mary play (for the first time since it was new) to coming straight here after skimming his latest videos. Amazed that Ib got a remake-more so that he already played it! Thought you might get a kick out of this
Gosh, I'm so happy that ib is back with a remake + with some add details/ learn more stuff about the artist g. Also I really like how add the Garry button cause it really flesh out his character more and gives him more cool characterization
Holy shit Manly this literally just received English support yesterday. I am constantly impressed with how fast you manage to play games, edit your videos, and then publish them. Best RUclipsr
I'm in a new account., but I've been here since the first Ib video. Your channel showed me so many different RPG Makers games, and stories, and indie titles to keep an eye out for. God, I followed McKravin on Twitch because of you! A long time friend of mine who I met when we were 11 got back in touch with me last year because of Ib (she finally made a tattoo of a Gary and Ib painting and wanted to share it with me) and now I sent this video to her. Thanks for being here for so long, Manly. These memories are important to me and others, and I'm happy you're able to maintain the legacy.
I only played this game recently, like last year(along with the other classics like Mad Father and The Witch's House), but it's left such a impression on me that it's easily become one of my favorite games I've played. I hope the remake does it justice.
This really brings back memories. First horror game I ever properly played and I loved it, using art and an art gallery for horror is so unique. It’s what made me interested in other horror games, before then I just thought all things horror related, movies, games or otherwise, were just filled with cheap jumpscares and gore, but games like this certainly proved that they can be so much more. Actually making me care for the characters probably helped make me invested as well.
Wow, I remember watching your original series back in 2013. Actually was starting to re-watch some of it last night just for nostalgia, can't believe its almost been ten years! Ib has such an amazing atmosphere for an RPG maker game: it will always be one of my favorites! Thank you for playing through the remake, Manly!
Holy shit, this is a trip up memory lane. With such a classic like Ib being remade, I hope that the RPG horror game fanbase has a renaissance. Also, I wonder if this remake will address some fan theories like Mary's backstory or how Guertena's world came to be.
Not gonna watch the video, since I'm going to play it myself, but thank you for making me aware that this masterpiece got a rerelease. This game is a treasure of the past and one of the greatest executions of RPGMaker spooks, and it has set me a near unsurpassed bar for RPGMaker games for nearly a decade.
Man..., that brings me so many memories, and feelings of melancholy and nostalgia, RPG Maker games was true masterpieces, Ib in special, i'm gonna follow this serie with a special interest by this game what marked me
Aaaah man Ib... I remember finding manly's channel after beating the game and looking for an "all endings" video to see what I had missed. Before I knew it I had become a regular. Its been such a long time that I've gone through college, big life changes, social media rebrandings, but despite everything I'm still here watching manly vids.
Gosh, this is the game where it all started for me on Manly's channel all those years ago... What a throwback. I didn't even know they remade it/planned to remake it! Glad to relive it for the first time (again) with you, Manly.
Ib is one of my favorite games ever and a huge inspiration for me! I was so excited when I saw the notif for this video, I didn't even know this remake was made!
I've always loved how a lot of the paintings, even the non-plot important ones, are actually quite striking images and have some interesting messages behind them. It's such a nice touch and gives you a lot to think about beyond just the plot.
I remember finding your channel from watching lots of RPG maker games frim Minx and just neeeeeding more. You played such different and obscure RPG games that most people didn't and with such quality (and such good humor and 10/10 narration) . Loved your work for years, i'm so glad you made this channel
I’m so excited about this! A couple of times over the years I’ve tried to watch Manly’s playthrough of the original, but of course it was from sooooo long ago that he wasn’t doing voiceovers yet, so I couldn’t fully focus. It’s like my wish has come true!
i still carry ib's somber vibes with me till this day, the ost shaped my whole view on music, and this is my first dive into the whole rpgmaker games the nostalgia's hitting hard
_That beginning music, so lovely_ I'm happy it didn't change. I hope the game will be as magical as I remember. I'm looking forward to watching. I'm sure whatever changes and additions will be good. I'm also happy you have the old version on your channel too - for history. And memories. :)
I was so happy when I got the notification for this. Ib was one of the games which got me into the horror genre, and I've revisited it periodically over the years just the see the endings again (also because I adore Garry lol). It's amazing both to see it get a remake and to see my absolute favourite youtuber play it! Can't wait for part 2 :-)
7:42 "If I remember correctly the ??? are from Ib is young and doesn't quite understand certain words." Almost. This is a language difference between English and Japanese. Japanese has 3 alphabets, 2 are completely phonetic and taught to children first, the 3rd is a pictograph system (the same alphabet as Chinese, but using less characters) where entire words or concepts are represented by symbols, these are called Kanji. There are about 50,000 used in Japan but like rare English words not everyone knows all of them. There are a basic set of 2,200 Kanji all elementary children learn by the end of elementary school and the government promises that every Japanese high-school graduate will be able to read a newspaper (10k-3002 Kanji? I couldn't find a good number on this). However, any Kanji a person doesn't know they can write out phoneticly using the other alphabets, so you can know a word but not it's Kanji. Also books tend to use a LOT of Kanji so most young people need a Kanji dictionary to read (except for children's books which have the phonetic spellings written out). In the game the ??? Probably represent Kanji Ib doesn't know, she may or may not know the word they represent, that is unrelated. You can't "sound out" a Kanji, it's a picture of abstract lines.
'Cry sent me here'. Genuinely a bittersweet revalation there. Because, interestingly enough, the reason that I started watching Manly recently was because I couldn't watch Cry anymore, because of the things he did... Being a bit selfish, at that time, I was kinda lost. BEcause Cry had been a major part of my childhood. And while I could watch other RUclipsrs, there were none that I felt I could watch no matter what. Then, by chance, I came across Manly's channel. And he was just the kind of RUclipsr I've been dying to watch and listen to again. He doesn't just shout and scream, and he even plays games the est he can. No getting stuck on something obvious forway too long and blaming the game. It always feels like Manly respects the games that he plays, and that's why I just love watching him.

Hello scrub man
I'm pretty sure that Ib is one of the reasons why a lot of people got into horror RPG maker games.

Crooked Man for me, then Mad Father and Ib. Such nostalgia
I remember watching Ib YEARS ago. It’s wild to see a remake. Can’t wait to see how it goes

"But back then I couldn't read the words so well¹, but still, this was a good memory of the bird explaining scribbles.² Such a phase somehow stuck around.³ Nonetheless, these dead games return. Wow, this has been quite the interesting journey!"
¹ - they weren't very good at reading or interpreting english, so the game was difficult to understand.

Coming back to Ib after so many years passed since the "classic RPG Maker horror" era has both hit me with a wave of nostalgia and the realization that the plot of Ib is literally the Backrooms before the Backrooms were a thing.
You know. That actually is a salient point. She backroomed the fuck into a horrible art level with monsters and sht.
holy shit you're right
👀 you’re totally right
I completely forgot about this game.
Why so? I have never been good with "Find out who's telling the truth" kind of puzzles so this tip kind of surprised me 😅

I remember how obsessed I was with this game when I was around 12 or 13. The art, the atmosphere, the story. I'm so happy it got a remake

I'm so glad that Ib is one of the few things from when i was younger that still holds up
I've had so many disappointments where something i loved as a kid turn out to be trash or just like in poor taste
But i remember as a kid thinking garry was the best. and now in my 20s i still think garry is the best
Literally crying right now?!?! They remade this masterpiece?! Omg, this is going to be a RIDE and I am hella ready for this!
fun fact about garry: the creator wanted him to be the kind of guy who transcends the boundaries of gender. good for him i respect him and his ladylike mannerisms
edit: to clarify, its something that's more obvious in the japanese version of the game. "why do you talk like a lady" basically refers to speaking patterns that are difficult to translate, such as the pronouns he uses for "I" and "you" (which, of course, in English, we only have one version of I and you). if you dont get it its because its lost in translation. oh, the struggles of localization.
love himmm
When kouri announced the remake I was very excited and we finally had the english translation today. The game didn't disappoint

@@nehozakuz I also hope that. I'm afraid it will, though. All I can do is keep enjoying the pretty and totally platonic artwork I've found of them.
I thought Garry was meant to be androgynous male/big brother type
My favorite part in Ib is the part where she says "It's Ibbin' time!" And Ibs Mary. Truly a classic.
Oh my god, there’s an Ib remake!? This is gonna be an amazing series
Can’t wait for part 2 of this. Ib in my opinion is the best rpgmaker game, and it’s also the one that lead me to Manly’s channel! So seeing Manly’s channel growth and the remake of Ib is just great
Man this brings back memories of when I first discovered horror rpg's, I absolutely loved this game and I'm so happy to see a remake!
"Why do you talk like a lady?"
Wow Ib, your dad must be a joy to be around huh
It makes more sense in Japanese, because Garry used "Atashi" when he speaks referring to himself. Usually women use that one most of the time.
@@SmartyPoohBear So, I remembered vgperson did a FAQ about the English translation and this particular topic, so here's a copy-paste of that as RUclips hates links in comments nowadays:
"Garry totally talks like a lady.
We actually truly are blessed to have such a game as Ib getting a remake version 10/10
"Loves me or loves me not"
starts with "loves me"
having 5 health, represented by petals makes Ib's flower a "loves me not"
I've been waiting for this remake for so long especially more so when I heard it was confirmed.
Manly singing the best persona theme song at @23:37 made me happy :D
Literally ib was and probably still is one of my fav games ever this makes me so happy
* Heavy breathing* REMAKE ?
Ib was the first Horror RPG i've ever watched and it still is one of my favourites. I am astounded that there is a remake.
Wasn’t expecting the sudden Persona 4 soundtrack drop (23:36)
I genuinely love everything about Ib, the characters, the art, the music, the storyline, ugh the nostalgia 😭
ahhh i'm so glad you went back to see what garry would say about the stuff ib saw before meeting him!!
Oh god the nostalgia, whoever decided to make a remake did a favor to a lot of us, we back in 2012 boys
It is an official remake!
Ib was the first horror game that I had ever played. Seeing it have a remake now is surreal, and I am all for it.
Same, I was obsessed with this game in middle school, I'm so happy it came back!
It finally got the remake it deserves, such a nostalgic feel
Gosh, this is the game where it all started for me on Manly's channel all those years ago... What a throwback. I didn't even know they remade it/planned to remake it!
Glad to relive it for the first time (again) with you, Manly.
"Now for the appearance of the best character" HECK YEAAAAAAAAAAAA
im going to cry i didnt know there was a remake TT
OMG?? OH MY GOODNESS??? IB REMAKE??? OMG THAT'S LIKE MY FIRST RPG HORROR GAME I'VE PLAYED I LOVE IT SO MUCH AAKBZSLNDKD
I love Ib and Garry's interactions
I remember playing Ib myself and got all the achievements too. I'm just going to leave a like then play it myself for the nostalgia. Thanks Manly!
It’s like my wish has come true!
i still carry ib's somber vibes with me till this day, the ost shaped my whole view on music, and this is my first dive into the whole rpgmaker games
the nostalgia's hitting hard
_That beginning music, so lovely_
I'm happy it didn't change. I hope the game will be as magical as I remember. I'm looking forward to watching. I'm sure whatever changes and additions will be good.
I'm also happy you have the old version on your channel too - for history. And memories. :)
It has been so long ago now gladly it returns to the history rpg and memories as well.
@@ODSTHAZARD Hiii! This was a classic. I'm already crying over the mention of Ib's handkerchief! I'll say no more bc spoilers for new people. :D
@@NaturalFlirtGamer hello and Indeed good times it is.
Oh wow, I just clicked off a video where people were wishing for an ib remake. Wishes granted lol
I don’t care what other people say. I’m always gonna enjoy Manly’s gameplay style and commentary.
Is that childhood nostalgia I smell? I loved this game one of the reasons I got into rpg horror development my self :)
Ib is one of my favourite games! It's such a classic. Love how they added a button to talk to Garry, making you more attached to guy.
An Ib remake? Now that's exciting. Can't wait for more.
7:42 "If I remember correctly the ??? are from Ib is young and doesn't quite understand certain words."
Almost.
The memories this game brings back… such nostalgia, wow. Thanks for this blast from the past.
