- Things that influence the cost of Divorce:
Conflict Level: More fighting leads to higher costs.
Complex Assets: Complex assets or business interests increase expenses.
Parenting and Debts: Child custody arrangements and debt division can add to costs.
Additional Costs: Hiring experts for asset valuation or creating parenting plans will also increase costs.
Cost Range:
Divorce costs can range from $3,000 to $60,000 or more before trial. However, the average cost is between $15,000 and $20,000, varying based on complexity and acrimony.
Payment Structure:
Hourly Fees: Most attorneys, including us at Pacific Northwest Family Law, charge hourly rates.
Advanced Fee Deposit: For our firm we have Client's deposit money into a trust account, it stays as their money which is then billed from as work is completed on their case.
Invoices: Our clients receive detailed invoices when work is done to keep clients updated on the costs moving forward. Then they can make payments directly or out of the trust account.
