Malaysia's Chong Wei Lee defeats India's Kashyap Parupalli in the badminton men's singles quarterfinals in the Wembley Arena at the London 2012 Olympic Games (2 August).
Badminton made its debut as a demonstration sport at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. It was not until the 1992 Games in Barcelona that it was officially included on the Olympic programme, with men's and women's singles and doubles events. The mixed doubles event made its debut in 1996 at the Atlanta Olympic Games. Since then, the number of events has remained unchanged.

Do you guys know that feeling? You play a great player... you play a fantastic first game... you stay really close in the first game; you nearly win... and then in the second game, your opponent just overwhelms and outclasses you, and you feel so powerless and sad...

I have been there. Led 19-18 against a formidable national player but he somehow pulled the stocks and won the game. The next game was a cakewalk for him.

It is true that LCW wasn't able to concentrate well. But that was only in the initial part of the 1st set. Kashyap was really good. He was running out of steam after that epic pre quarter clash.

There are many indian players that are capable of playing international tournaments, but to qualify for such tournaments your name needs to be recommended to the intl board by the national coaches. But some times these coaches are biased. (This is just example),currently saina nehwal isn't doing good in tournaments, there might be better players than saina nehwal but the national committee won't recommended others names, bcoz people want to see saina play, rather than some other uprising players.
