    That was the most useful set of information about silver identification I have ever seen in one place. And you give your knowledge freely. Great stuff - thank you! 👍

    A few years back i found a pint glass shaped solid sterling tumbler. It was neat how it would get covered in frost when a cold beverage was poured in.

    Enjoyed this one. Headed to gold country this weekend full of small towns with antique shops so will put some of this knowledge to the test.

      Right there with you. But it's just odds and ends you don't love, and with silver over $30 an ounce, you might consider shipping it off to the smelter and using the money to buy something you really want. I did that not too long ago in the video below. And I'm almost to the point of doing it again!

      Thank you, that's very kind. 40 or 50 years of collecting and study. I've never owned a proper coin shop, but I am a "vest pocket dealer"--I buy and sell nicer pieces occasionally.

    Who won the silver give away?

      For the 3,000 subscriber giveaway? There were three winners: Homestead Aquarius, CharlieFlores9963, and oro_yplata6422. We didn't have a giveaway for the Is It Silver question, that was just to see if you could tell what was solid silver and what was plated.

    One of the things that can fool you concerning Native American jewelry are the bezels.......some are magnetic while the rest of the piece is either sterling or coin silver. One could easily dismiss a legit piece as a phony if they were quickly scanning it with a magnet and they didn't check the other areas to see if they were not magnetic.
    Alpaca usually made both, a legit sterling and non-sterling example of their items. Unfortunately their non-silver items continue to fool people.
    I'm curious what the non-silver Native American rings are? Did you XRF them or are they marked as nickel silver?

      @Dub-C_Coins  4 месяца назад +1

      You're right. I think you need a lot of experience to really know what you're looking for in American Indian jewelry, so I'll do a whole video about that and probably Mexican pieces as well. And it definitely gets to be tricky when you see good quality stones in plated copper or alpaca or other similar metal.

    Will a magnet sort out 50# of the fakes ?

    • @Dub-C_Coins
      @Dub-C_Coins  5 месяцев назад +1

      Nope. A magnet will tell you what definitely isn't silver. But it won't tell you what is silver.
      But at least you can screen out the things you definitely don't want to buy: If it's magnetic, don't waste your time.

    Can a sigma test jewelry ?

    • @Dub-C_Coins
      @Dub-C_Coins  5 месяцев назад +2

      Absolutely for silver! There is a sigma test for 92.5% or sterling. Also three for 90%. But there are no tests on the classic Sigma for karat gold except 22k. So no 18k, 14k, 10k.

      I use the small wand attachment on a Sigma Pro to test some of the jewelry that have a wide enough surface area for it. Works great.

    • @Dub-C_Coins
      @Dub-C_Coins  4 месяца назад

      Yep, the small wand is the way to go. Even on the standard Sigma.
