When I first started working out I saw this video and couldnt believe the strenght... now the algorithm brought me back here and I'm so very close to this weight for 5 reps on the OHP. Keep grinding you'll be surprised
The best I ever got with overhead press was 60kg for 2-3 reps, that was a couple years back before I stopped working out. after only working out for 2 months I'm already up to 50kg ohp, hopefully I'll reach then surpass my old best but it starts getting real hard to keep improving once you get to the 60kg mark I've found. Great video.
@@Tigresskungfu I can do 8 reps of 61.5 kg. My max is 77 kg ... So what helped me was to improve my bench press and do 5x5 with 80% of your ohp max. So if your max is 60 kg, your 5x5 weight would be 50 kg. Oh and don't forget to KILL those triceps. Get those triceps stronger and you WILL increase the overhead press. 100% guaranteed.
Guys I got this video random in my feed and I actually like it... But kinda weird, it is january 2023 and this video is from 2011? Am I the only one? 🤔
So simple yet so hard, floor to overhead moves. If your gym does not have an open area to set up and have room, find one that does. Stay with just the bar until every link in the chain is ready for more weight.
As a teenager in the 80s I used to do 10 handstand push ups (at about 12 stones) but never had any weights to check what I could do with OHP. Would be interesting to see what I would have got.
Watching this 11 years later… solid lift… I’m just starting in my overhead press journey, currently doing 5 x 5 at 52.5kg, aim is to be 5 x 5 at 60 by March next year… What are you lifting these days?
I seem to have been recommended this over 10 years later. I can quite comfortable shoulder press the 42kg dumbbells for sets of 8 whilst seated, however have only just started to dable in the standing OHP game. At the moment I'll do my usual dumbbell seated OHP up to the 42s for 3 x 8, then I'll go and do 60kg standing OHP for 3 x 6. I'm considering not doing as much with the dumbbells and working primarily with the barbell standing, thoughts anyone?

@@BucksMusicJourney barbell weight is usually not considered or taken into account in professional weight training ....it's the weight of the plates that is considered....!!
do squats. it helps. and if you feel low, just cut down the weights and increase the reps. lots of reps with light weights help healing progress. goggins fan.
This is how'd be doing them before I bought a squat rack. 60kg's is a lot, if you picked it from the floor. That means your real 1RM could even be above 70 kg.
there is no way doing 60 kg five times translates to a 1 RM above 70 kg, far from it, small amounts of weight make a big difference on overhead press, 10+ kg is a huge difference
@@holliswilliams8426 Last week I did 3x6 with 61kg, but I didn't test my 1rep max yet. Two months ago it was 70 kg and I was able to do 3x5 with 60kg. I'm running a linear program.
