Tesla needs to get the maps updated more often. I have FSD 12.5.1 and using 2024.8 maps. This is week 31 of 2024, so maps are 31-8=23 weeks, over 5 months, out of date. There is a lot of road construction in the Spring and Summer. Without map updates the car is half blind, or at least not going to look as smart.

    • @kafiluz4317
      @kafiluz4317 Месяц назад +2

Road constructions must be recognized. And that's what Tesla is trying to do and why it happens that FSD takes another path than the map shows. Important feature! Otherwise this turns into Waymo premapping that nobody wants. So nice to see a car driving itself without any essential internet connection.

I'm a total FSD fan. But in my first drive with 12.5.1, I had to do an emergency takeover when I was stopped at an intersection making a left turn. The left turn traffic turned green and my car proceeded to turn too short heading either into oncoming traffic or into the concrete median. I tap the brake and made an awkward left turn with the little runway I still had left. Later on the drive, FSD 12.5.1 made a similar error on another left turn but not as drastic-it braked short of hitting the median and turned around it.
I haven't had a chance to duplicate this again, but hopefully 12.5.1 on my car was calibrating itself. I saw another RUclipsr was testing 12.5.1.1. Perhaps this is an urgent update to any regressions like I experienced.

5:30 Based on the visualization, the car noticed the Jeep was creeping slowly into the road and FSD decided to play it safe. This is less about being polite and more about the computer having no ego behind the wheel. It will pick the safest option based on videos from the entire Tesla fleet including detecting when cross traffic may pose a risk.

Great video. Would like to see more situations with FSD handling multilane highway traffic. That's where I seem to have a lot of FSD 'frustration' deactivations. Not dangerous, but missed opportunities leading to getting stuck behind slow traffic or late to make an exit. Staying in a lane when would be better to change or deciding to pass late. Constantly adjusting speed settings and outright wrong speed limit data. Hoping the merging of the city & highway stacks helps these areas.

  • @bearcubdaycare

Boring sounds dangerous, enough to get the supervising driver complacent, and then suddenly intervention is needed. Google found that in its early days; cameras showed drivers turning around 180 degrees to deal with a laptop in the back seat, while speeding down the highway. That's why they decided not to go for driver assist, but instead go for full automation before releasing. It'll be interesting to see what Tesla's, and its drivers', experience is in that regard. Do drivers get complacent? Do they end up looking forward without seeing, subconsciously satisfying the driver monitor but not really ready crisply for action, not really fully situationally aware?

⚠️ Every car that uses self driving should have some kind of sign or bumper sticker (like Student Driver). Other drivers will give mistakes, slow turning , long stop sign pauses, etc.. more patience and drive a bit more defensive on their toes around the self driving car.
Example: 5:32 this is semi-dangerous. Anyone driving behind you would expect you to keep driving to the light. Plenty of room for yellow car to turn behind you after you stop at light. While it’s true that any cars behind you should be ready to handle an uncommon stop, good defensive drivers are constantly trying to predict what other cars in their immediate vicinity are going to do. When the car does things that are abnormal outside of common human driving behaviors, it makes it more dangerous. Other drivers if they saw a sign on the car saying it was anonymous driving, would be more vigilant and ready for uncommon behaviors.

I love FSD and my 2024 MYLR has received 12.5.1. My problems with it are mostly on the highway. We've been traveling this week and three times the navigation said to take an exit but FSD did not exit. One time I was getting onto a secondary highway,. The navigation said turn right but FSD tried to turn left. The worst thing is when you have an exit lane added that is not very tapered but just appears full width. FSD takes a very sharp right turn and I have to take over because it is going too fast to recover from the sharp turn. The other more minor issues related to speed limits. When I pass from a lower speed zone to a highe speed zone, but the car does not accelerate. it's that normal? I've only had the car 3 months and am still getting acclimated. thx

FSD navigation did not change to the left lane and ended up in the right turn only lane (indicated on the pavement right arrow marking). FSD did not follow road markings rules (right turn only) and made a last minute (potentionaly dangerous? get honked?) maneuver to merge left to continue going straight.

  • @SuperBotcreator

Mine has been totally bad. Imagining a turning lane, almost ran over a median to get into it. Ran a red light. A large turn that involves 3 lanes turning left at the same time, literally almost ended out riding the center of the lines if I didn't take over. Turned 1,000 feet before a turn, amusingly early wrong turn. Getting uncomfortably close to roundabout curbs on one specific roundabout. It seems to be aware of this though, and decides to slam the brakes and straighten the wheel to avoid the issue. Not good for anyone behind me. Keeps turning on roads and either riding or being just over the yellow line.
Idk this update is lowkey really bad for me. Unusable outside of going straight on a highway.

It’s super annoying that it doesn’t make a sound or chime to pay attention to the road. If you’re not paying attention, you probably need a sound to alert you. It’s almost like the goal is to produce a disengagement rather than actually get the drivers attention. It’s such a huge flaw and I’m surprised with all the other enhancements this is being ignored as working as intended.

The legality of changing lanes in an intersection is defined by state law. To my knowledge, there is no regulation in KY which prohibits changing lanes in an intersection.
Additionally, the rules on solid white lines which often precede intersections is found in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways (MUTCD). MUTCD Section 3B.06 White Lane Line Pavement Markings:
"06. Where crossing the lane line markings is discouraged, the lane line markings shall consist of a normal width solid white line.
    . . .
    12. Where crossing the lane line markings is prohibited, the lane line markings shall consist of a double solid white line (see Figure 3B-8)."
So, crossing a single white line is discouraged; only crossing a double white line is illegal (for instance, the lines separating an HOV lane). Of course, if an officer wanted to pull you over, they could claim you were operating recklessly, but to my knowledge, there is no specific regulation prohibiting this maneuver.

My experience with 12.5.1 is that it's really smooth on a lot of things but one issue I keep having with the last few updates is that the car will be in the wrong lane for the next turn. Example being the car will be in the left lane turning left when it should know that right after it turns the corner it will be turning right so that after it turns it then has to get into the other lane, it should already be in the right lane in order to turn right. That's not natural driving and it does it over and over again. I love using fsd but every time this happens it reminds me of how much work is still needed.

and what will the cop do - I'm guessing issue the person a ticket for reckless driving
and the judge what will he/she to - suspend the driver's license for a year?
This all gets back to the real reason FSD was developed
to run a Robotaxi where the cop has a "kill switch" and bring the Robotaxi to a safe stop on the side of the road.
elon should have had 50 lawyers in 50 states working on passing laws to allow FSD to drive on the streets.
and how does that cop and judge know FSD was engaged?
Should there be a light on the Tesla saying "FSD driving"?
