Szeged is a really attractive city. Great buildings indeed and often a comfortable train journey. I stayed there for 2 days in 2024.

Hey, good stuff. I did not know we have such carriages here in Hungary. What a difference to the average remote trains. Thanks for recording and for introducing the highlights of Szeged at the end.

👍 Nice footage - "StarTrek On Rails" ;)
The visual design is a banger . Though I'd prefer the railways would take in account proper classic comfort again - like curtains for example . If I'd to pay more - I wouldn't like to be exposed like a display dummy . The Trenitalia branch TTI offers a nice orientation : "compartimento salotto per 4 treni turistici italiani"

Hello Europe by train and Everyone!
This is/These are the good Half/Hybrid InterCity from Szöged ( I gave it the nickname to these trains). Half/Hybrid because the B(d) coaches aren't InterCity's, than works in the fast train category. In these coaches you can travel without the InterCity seat ticket, into these coaches are enough the normally ticket. These train compositions are 50+ years old without that coaches type, than you travelled, these are 5 years old maximum. The engine type (V43, today are from 430 to 433, nicknames are Szili (430 - GYSEV, 431 - MÁV/H-START/H-SZEVA* from 2025), Papagai or swallow (432) and Tabby (433)) started manufacturing in 1963. These trains are travelling in every hour and the similar consist from the yearly timetable change in December 2006. These trains timetable is the fast train timetable came from the earlier timetable for these railway line. Later extended to other lines this consist and timetable style.
*I mean the "H-SZEVA" that all national travelling companies will be merged to the one company. Included to the new one company to the MÁV-START (National train travelling company), MÁV-HÉV (Budapester suburban railway company), MÁV RAIL TOURS (earlier: MÁV NOSZTALGIA) and Volánbusz (National Bus travelling Company). We are/I'm don't know the new company name yet.
7:15 Prices: You are write all price? I ask, because the InterCity section second class price (into the Bphee car) and the Fast Train section cars (into the Bd cars) prices are different.
7:50 Nostalgia designed Bd in Nagykőrös? station: The exterior are nostalgia designed these coaches (interior are the same all in these coach type), this design language used to 1981. I think to the last car in the other train, you can see that the thin white stripe with dark blue side surface. All second class car live in Szeged, than wearing this polishing. Today have been in this polishing 1 piece of first class car in Debrecen and 1 piece of package car in Budapest.

It's surprising how you almost always manage to catch virtually empty trains. How do you do that? :D

Hi, sometimes I'm lucky ☺️ Better chances are when departing from starting point and if the train is already at the platform, which might happen with first connections of the day. This one around 5:30am 😬

It will be connected to the Serbian part of the high-speed railway, which is under construction.
And from Belgrade towards Skopje, Thessaloniki and Athens (southern branch) and towards Sofia and Istanbul (southeastern branch).

It should stop at Kiskőröst and Kiskunhalast. Shame this project is just another way in Hungary to withdraw public money and put them into oligarchs pockets.

@@Europe-By-Train An interesting route... In that case, the distance will also decrease.
As for corruption, I would not go into it, it is an internal issue of your country. Which you should solve before the competent authorities and not on the Internet.
Such information can be productive but also negative for civic awareness and the reputation of those who present it so lightly.
I only know that corruption is everywhere. The general global tension has shown that even those who stand at the top of the so-called most democratic institutions around the world are not immune to corruption.
Which does not mean that it should be tolerated anywhere. In Budapest, in Belgrade..., but also in Brussels.

@serbianforestman, according to the author's bio, he is Czech, so it's not about internal issues for him, but he has every right to express his opinion-especially since we're talking about European taxpayers' funds being potentially misused. Hungary is widely recognized as having the highest corruption rate in the EU, with the ruling party creating a system where friends and family benefit at the taxpayers' expense. There are ongoing investigations, and significant funds have been frozen (though more is needed). Regarding the Balkans, corruption there is often joked about online, but since those countries aren't in the EU, and I really do not see any chance of that changing any soon, it doesn't concern me or have a direct impact on me so I will not go into this topic. As for the railway line, it's marketed as high-speed in Hungary, but it will only reach 140-160 km/h, which is standard on major conventional routes. In Serbia, it’s 200 km/h, which is considered high-speed for modernized networks (for purpose new built lines minimum speed is higher). In Hungary, it still will be the fastest route, as most main lines are only 120 km/h, except for the Gyor-Tatabanya section, which is at best 160 km/h. However, the project is controversial because taxpayer money might be better spent on more critical routes like Vienna, which have higher cargo and passenger volumes, both within the country as internationally as per available traffic flows and simulations. But indeed project has high potential of transferring some of tax payers money to the pockets of "friends of the big bellied bunny". EOT

Nice trip report! :) the first three carriages that you showed are not exactly IC carriages. They are the “budget” ones that can be used without seat res, n can be taken for free if you have a “country pass”. So sorry u had that old lady talkin so loud in your carriage… some people have zero culture unfortunately.
