- Stock Screener - In this episode I am sharing the screener criteria that I use to choose a stock for my portfolio. A normal investor is better off investing in an Index fund. But if you are feeling adventurous and would like to venture into individual stocks, you can use this episode to understand the basic criteria that you could use to choose a low volatile stock that can appreciate in value in long term. Please note that this is a “Yellow” category episode that is meant for investors who already have some experience in stock market.

SOME OTHER IMPORTANT DOS AND DON'TS
Dos
Start with small capital in the initial days
Use a demo trading account to improve trade accuracy
Always have a stop loss and target price before placing a trade
Understand technical and fundamental analysis if you want to be a stock trader/investor
Diversify your investment if you have long-term investing goals
Try to understand the financial reports of companies
Don’ts
Do not trade stocks that are in news for good or bad reasons
Stay away from external advice
Never invest the money you need
Beginners should avoid IPOs
Do not get emotionally attached to a stock
Do not try to time the market
For investments, is it buying a growth company, say Brittania, like institutions
or
buying its holding company, BBTC (ignoring Manjolai riots) which is available at 70-80% discount, like a retail investor.
Hello Vijay Mohan sir, you r delivering great content. It’s very useful for me. Thanks. Most of the businesses are not happening due to 2nd wave of covid. But share prices are keep on increasing. What is the reason and Is this the right time to buy stack (undervalue) in India?
Market looks at the future prospects. It does not look at the current or past history.
How does etf avoid taxes when selling (compare to individual stocks) ....you meant we won't sell it if its etf. And what kind of ETFs you mentioned here. (Last part of video)
Hi Vijay Mohan, great video. Assuming if you are starting again for investment and you mentioned you will go with ETF than individual stocks.. so you meant ETF for Index funds or else any other type of funds. This will be helpful to understand your POV and general people like me can see your analysis and benefit from you
I meant the index ETF.
@@InvestmentInsightsTamil thank you
And kindly try to publish add your future video list of below
1. Indexation
2.Taxation
3. How to buy US sticks directly from India
4.NCD and corporate bonds

Hi Vijay. Nice video and crisp explanation. What is the tax implication if we sell ETFs from our portfolio with some major gains? Especially in Europe
That depends on which country you live in. You should check your local tax laws for long term capital gains and short term term capital gains.
By next video..try to make a video..which site will be good to get news about stocks, about company profitable, balance sheets and all sir..if possible try to do...and your videos was short as well so informative..thank u in advance
Thank you for your support.
You can use the following sites for market news:
economictimes.indiatimes.com/
www.moneycontrol.com/
Both have financials data as well.
You can use the following for stock screener: www.screener.in/
Your videos are very informative. Could you please post videos on applying for colleges, competitive tests and course scheduling in US?
Good suggestion. I got some core finance topics that I need to cover. I will get to this after those.
Thanks Sir for the the great video. At the end you mentioned ETF would be a better option than individual stocks can you pls elaborate on it or if you have covered in any other video pls do share the link.
Because it is better for holding it long term as I do not have to monitor it closely like individual stocks and dont have to sell if I dont like the the company and incur taxes.
Interesting. I have two questions:
1. Do you try to evaluate and understand the business before buying?
2. Do you take asset: liability ratio into account?
1. Definitely. If I don't understand the business, I wont even go near it.
2. The kind of companies (well established large caps) I consider, this is not really that important. This becomes important for smaller companies. Saying that, it does not hurt to make sure that we are comfortable with the debt carried by the company.
@@InvestmentInsightsTamil Nice! Thanks for your reply. Im new to stock market and I was taking asset liability ratio into account as suggested by Benjamn Graham for defensive investors. I ll keep improving.
If possible put a video on
1. Growth vs Dividend stocks. Which one should we go for if we are in process of wealth creation.
2. How do you diversify your stock portfolio

I have 2 doubts in this video
1) what is the period for the beta are you referring here? When I was going through economic times, I noticed there are several beta values - 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and 3 years.
2) Can you put a video about how to sell the stocks and move out immediately when we figured out annual growth is declining? How much faster execution of selling is needed?
Say for example, if the result is announced in the evening after market hours, how can we sell it immediately to escape from next the loss? Can you please share if there any tips for handling such moments.

Hi Sir, Can you please let me know that how do we check the revenue growth and and earning growth for particular stocks or bunch of stocks. I am confused when checked in screen.in. Can you please help me for the same, Thanks.
Just see how revenue has increased year over year for the past few years. Watch "Financial Statement Analysis" episode to understand how to read financial statements.
Hello Sir,your videos are great…You advised not to choose small cap for individual but can we go for small cap mutual funds as they tend to give bette returns in the long run.I’ve just started to earn so will it wise to invest in small cap?
TIA
Small cap in USA gives better run in long term, but not in India. I would not recommend samllcaps in India.

Dear Mr.Vijay, Is that really sufficient to look at only these parameters to analyze the Stocks for purchasing? Hope other key parameters should also be considered like Debt to equity ratio, ROE, ROCE, Promoter holding, Pledged shares, Net operating / profit margin, Business Competitive strength etc.
This is a good place to start. You can expand on that to other parameters you have mentioned.
In one of your other videos, you recommended MFs over ETFs in India but in this video you recommended ETFs over stocks. Is this recommendation for ETF specific to your situation in the US?
Yes. What I was saying here is actually to invest in ETF or Mutual Fund rather than individual stocks - though I just said ETF.
As you said at the end of the video if you would have repeat you will choose the ETF. Which ETF you will choose in USA.
Watch the stocks portfolio episode.
Dear, I have question, I have watched almost all the video in your channel it's really informative thank you for your effort and time.
Coming to my question, what I understood is for a conservative investment for a long-term growth going to index fund is a better option and buying index fund is not direct, need to buy through some of the mutual fund company now what is this company is doing they are offering index fund mimicking nifty 50 or S$P 500. Is it possible to mimic the same Index and I buy direct stocks of those listings in Index of course I understand it is additional effort every month. Or whenever it is changing.
What is actually the potential different, or is it that better way just go in mutual fund or buying the direct stock as the same ratio as in the index, which is giving better return can you please elaborate on this
It is not really worth our time in trying to recreate the index when it is already readily available. Buying the index fund directly is the right thing to do.
@@InvestmentInsightsTamil thanks you sir for your quick response, I thought we may get direct benefits of dividend from stack also we can avoid experience ratio in MF.
Sir please share some website to screen US Stocks . . it would be helpful
There are plenty of sites. Eg: www.tradingview.com/screener/
I would like to hear your strategies or opinion about options trading..btw your much simplified stock picks. Do you consider midcap companies?
Not really. I stick to Largecaps. Options - its like fire. We can use it for lighting our home. But used carelessly will burn down the home. I do not trade in options. But I do use them in some long term strategies. Will be sharing those in coming weeks...
Great thanks. I would assume your selection of etf also restrict to large caps.
Smallcap ETFs in US does have potential. I like IJR and do have that exposure in my portfolio. But we need to understand its behavior in the market. As I said in the video, a small problem in economy will send it down and also it will be the last one to recover from a recession. But in long term, it does come out ahead of S&P500 in USA. But that is not the case in India though. Small cap market in India is very inefficient. May be a managed smallcap fund can do well as the fund managers can take advantage of the inefficiency in the Indian smallcap market. But the smallcap Index in India is abysmal compared to Nifty50.
Sir. India la individual stocks, index fund, bonds, mutual fund. Ivaigalukkaana tax pathi oru vdo padunga sir.

@@InvestmentInsightsTamil yes. I watched that just one day ago
As usual very nice and useful video 👌👌I would like to hear about your portfolio and also can you share your thoughts on long term option strategy and how to go for long term option .
Will cover about options soon. But in short, the only time I consider options is during coming out of recession. That too LEAP call options. Problem with options is, one need to have lot of self control on using it. The greedy part of our brain will make us take unwarranted risks, which will lead to disaster. Unfortunately, 99% of us are in the later category. As long as we are aware of the dangers, we can try a small % (
Thanks Vijay . Please share about your portfolio strategy how much fund allocated in growth stock and other index funds ..
Mine 50% is in growth stocks and 50% are in Index funds. It is not a planned allocation. Nothing strategic about it. It just happened that way. I would say that allocation is totally personal choice. You go with what you are comfortable with.
@@InvestmentInsightsTamil thanks vijay .
Hello, anyone who have created the screener, on the criteria, can you please share?
1. Largecap
2. Revenue growth > 10%
3. Earnings growth >= Revenue growth
4. Beta < 1.3
Vijay Sir,
Do you mean that buying stocks through Zerodha, Angel, Groww, Upstock, Small box etc... etc.... All these are not safe? What is the best way to begin the stocks or index funds? Through Financial advisors or brokers but that is what even these apps were also doing. Right? I am not sure whether am I correct or not but if you could help me letting know would be great.
No. I did not mean that. What I meant was it is better to invest in an Index fund rather than on individual stocks. You can use any platform to buy the index fund. You can use groww or kuvera and buy the "Direct" version of index funds. Better yet, buying it directly from the fund house itself. Like for UTI Nifty Index fund, you can buy it directly from UTI.
Thank you so much for the response Sir as I was completely not aware of the option that you say. Is it possible to make a video for it as it will be really helpful for the beginners like me.
@@kkk8755 Sure. In the mean time, check out UTI site on instructions: www.utimf.com/mutual-fund-products/equity-funds/uti-nifty-index-fund/
Great explanation sir, please stop mattum panirathinga ji
Are etf allowed to invest non group of invidudial stocks? , I thought it will only can track index , means only index ETF .
As like mutual fund , like large cap etf also available? Then etf also has fund manager?
Can able to do one video on the difference ETF vs mutual fund? I have seen a video available in your playlist , still need more info to understand better, if you have time.
and a video on selecting brokagae firm for long term criteria.
Most of the ETFs track an index passively. But there are few actively managed ETFs as well Eg: Cathie Wood's ARKK.
@@InvestmentInsightsTamil ohh ok , instead of having holding against largecap inviduidual stocks, you meant say buy a largecap ETF , got it , thanks.
But ETF will have expense ratio and brokarage fees ,
But mutual fund has only exspen ratio.
Why you preferred ETF instead of mutual fund.
@@prabagaran.s1285 I meant buying an index ETF like QQQ or SPY.
ETFs in USA are not that different from mutual funds.
This is Vanguards Total Stock market Index ETF: investor.vanguard.com/etf/profile/VTI
Same is available as Mutual Fund: investor.vanguard.com/mutual-funds/profile/vtsax
We can invest in either depending on our convenience. What I am trying to say is, we can't say that ETFs are better than MFs or vice versa. It all depends on the funds and our needs.
Hi sir. Is ETFs good for Indian market. I am asking this question because the difference between Price and NAV is very big.
Price difference is not a deciding factor at all. Say you have invested Rs.10,000. If the price of the ETF is Rs.100, you would have got 1,00 units. If the NAV of the fund is Rs.1,000 you would have for 10 units. Now lets say that the index has risen by 10%. The price of the ETF would have risen to Rs.110 and the NAV of the fund would have risen to Rs.1,100. Your invested amount 10,000 would have risen 11,000 in both the cases. You see that the price of the ETF vs fund is not a factor in returns? Go with what is convenient for you.
@@InvestmentInsightsTamil Thank you for your reply sir.
Sir,
8:10 you have mentioned maintaining individual stocks over time as the portfolio size increases has practical difficulties. Can you explain on that more
Lets say I have a stock A that I bought for price X. It has now risen to 5X. Now I am not happy with their business for whatever reason. I want to sell and get out of it. That leads to paying tax on capital gains 4X, which I would have totally avoided if it was in an ETF, as I would have held it for ever or until I am in need of money.
@@InvestmentInsightsTamil wow ya, I didn’t think about it. Thanks for the heads up, since I have started investing recently only this information is really helpful

What is diff(positives and negatives) between buying directly stocks present in index and buying index fund
When an index is readily available for you to buy, why do you want to go thru the pain of buying all the 50 individual stocks at the same weightage? Not worth the time and pain.
