- I knew that my AMG GT R was going to reach incredible speeds thanks to the upgrades from RENNtech, but I didn't expect it to go this fast! During an early morning run on the Autobahn with a prepared car, it managed to effortlessly reach a GPS recorded 330km/h, or 205mph, what an adrenaline rush!
The standard factory Mercedes AMG GT R claims a top speed of 318km/h when it is running with 585PS and 700Nm. After installing the RENNtech R1 package with downpipe, blow-off valve and an ECU tune, my car is running 671PS and 797Nm, with a theoretical rev limiter still in operation of just over 330km/h. Being a track focused car, the additional downforce from the aero is actually disadvantageous at high speed due to the increase in drag, however the rate at which is accelerates is incredible.
The additional torque across the rev range is hugely noticeable, but also there car is totally confident at high speed. The conditions had lined up perfectly for the occasion with clear and dry weather, a car in great shape wearing new tyres and a run on a Sunday morning with the absence of trucks and much road traffic.
I was already a huge fan of the AMG GT R, but now even more so. It is the most incredible car that is phenomenally fast, incredibly practical, comfortable over long distances, and rapid around the race track to boot.

@@henzo7087 Another hundred HP at those speeds only gets you another 10 or 15 kmh... You are hitting lower hp with higher RPM and you are pushing a LOT more wind.

Be quick with your visit. The green party, wich luckily is not involved in the government at the moment, constantly demand a speed limit on the autobahn.

Sadly I've never been to German, nor do I follow German politics. My comment of "communists" wasn't serious, but more of a comment on how much I envy the de-restricted areas and wish we had something similar in Ontario Canada where I live. I'm sure the green party of lovely people, but they better leave those de-restricted areas alone haha

That 4.0 AMG engine is such a great package. All that power/torque, pretty much zero lag, pretty efficient as V8s go and a fantastic sound track to match! I drove the E63 recently with the 4.0 engine, have to say the sound blew me away, it really does as good as the 6.2 (it's just a very different characteristic - more muscular and low pitch + amazing pops/bangs).

How easy it grows above 200kmH, even with the longer 7th gear! This car was already a beast, but now it really goes and, specially, SOUNDS like one! 👏👏👏
I think this is my favorite of your cars. It would've been close between the AMG GTR and the McLaren 675LT coupe in blue. Actually all your cars are special but this AMG is like superman flying around in a suit and tie, without the cape and costume on.

From the first time I saw your spec on your amg gtr I thought to myself Tim you just purchased the ultimate sleeper gtr. It seems to seamlessly go from urban traffic jams to the very demanding nordschleife and take on some of veterans that lurk there. With the Renntec badging and upgrades it loses it's "sleeper" designation but the performance is beyond all my expectations. Awesome video Tim, can't wait to see more with this GTR.

really love this car it does it pretty much all. I remember the autobahn in the 90's when we had 190e EVO's, Bmw e30 m3's, ford cosworth RS etc...those were EPIC days to be alive. cars have gone to be much faster but loads of them got really bland. Love your stuff Tim
