    Obligatory movie trivia mention that the scenes with Willem Dafoe were filmed three ways. The dialogue remained the same, but Dafoe acted his character differently each time: One version where he was basically oblivious to Bateman's crimes, and doing basic police questioning; One where he was more suspicious of Bateman, and a little more aggressive with his tone; And one where he pretty much knew Bateman was guilty, and was trying to catch him in a confession. The three versions were then spliced together, giving the scenes a tense and almost hallucinatory atmosphere, as if Bateman's mind was messing with him.

  • @FightingTorque411
    @FightingTorque411 10 месяцев назад +48

    Correct - it's an open ending, and depends on the viewer's interpretation. The director has since said she wanted it to be more clear that yes, he did do *most* of the killings shown (up until "Feed me a stray cat"), and got away with it because either people didn't care enough to notice, or didn't want to get caught up in the trouble that there would be if they exposed him. Certainly means the movie still gets talked about long after it was made!

    • @beinnice1356
      @beinnice1356 10 месяцев назад +6

      There is a director's cut that makes it clear he committed the crimes. Both versions are equally good.

      Also everybody in the movie kept mistaking people for each other constantly even after being repeatedly told they were somebody else. Some of it was intentional on Bateman's part but other people also didn't keep people name's straight even without Bateman misnaming himself or other people. Keeping straight who all needs to be protected and from what if Bateman gets arrested by the cops is harder than just cleaning up the bodies.

    This um, unique movie. So years a go I was in a hotel and what hotels often do is they have a channel on the televisions where they show a movie they select and buy (it's in the cost of the room but regardless). Then everyone is told when the movie will be on. Well it was this movie once. Understand the hotels are filled with families and kids that will be watching these movies. So I hustled myself to the lobby to talk to the manager and try and warn them about what was coming only to arrive right when the threesome scene was playing, little too late. I mean it is straight up softcore so they got a few angry phone calls to the office that evening. To say this film had some taboo moments even in it's era is an understatement.

    American Psycho explores the inherent violence of corporate greed, using Patrick Bateman's sadistic acts as a metaphor for the callousness of Wall Street. The film's ambiguous ending signifies Bateman's moral awakening, as he tries to hold himself accountable for his actions while those around him remain indifferent.

    American Psycho" is a wonderfully dark, satirical horror film with a stellar cast and ferociously riveting narrative. Christian Bale gives arguably the best performance of his career as Patrick Bateman, an egotistical, psychotic sociopath with an urge to inflict his inner pain onto others. A must watch if you're a fan of good acting and compelling screenplays. 10/10

  • @johnrussell-bk7lv

    The book is WAAAAY more messed up, and that's really saying something. It made me physically ill. The book dives deep inside of his head and it's not a good place to be. The things he does to people in that novel reach a level of violence that is just absurd. It's almost cartoonish how depraved the original Patrick Bateman is. I felt wrong just for reading it. It felt like watching a snuff film and I kind of hated myself for even finishing it. Bret Easton Ellis has a seriously twisted mind. Brilliant, but twisted. I kind of admire him for publishing it. It takes a certain level of courage just to admit to people that you have a mind that is capable of coming up with shit like that. It's a really messed up book. Like, you can take my word for it, but nothing can prepare you for the experience of actually reading it.

    American psycho is a black comedy and a satire of the wall street yuppie society of the 80's. The movie makes fun of the obsession of status games! The director said some of the killings was real and some was in his imagination. I think Christian Bale does an amazing performance as a psycho with a deadly side, but also makes fun of the wall-street character so it becomes hilarious sometimes!

    Does the lawyer not believe him? Is he right to? Does he believe and feel too overwhelmed to face it? Is he coming up with an alibi for Patrick? Did he know for ages and help Patrick's dad cover for him? Is Paul Allen actually in London? Is the narrator even the real Patrick Bateman?
    I adore the lack of answers. I love that we, and he, can never get a real answer. Because in the end, that confusion is just like the rest of his life. The lack of being known is just like the inability to stand out. He's never clear, just part of a blurred mass of self-centered upper-class twits.

    Hey guys? Do yourselves a huge favor and never read the book this was based on. It will actually kill your whole entire soul. It's a masterpiece, but there's something seriously wrong with Bret Easton Ellis. That book desensitized me so badly to violence that I don't think I'm even capable of being shocked or disgusted anymore. I forced myself to finish it because it really is an amazing work of art, but actually experiencing that guy's inner monologue is at first infuriating, then sickening, then just numbing. The descriptions of what he pictures doing to people are not words that should have ever been published. Seriously. I mean teenagers will sometimes try to one-up each other with the gross things that they can come up with, but Ellis' imagination is just on a different level of twisted. It's like the Marquis de Sade on PCP.
