Since 1960, I have lived a block away from Rt. 59 and have ridden on this "trackless trolley" thousands of times. I have some books with old photos of areas of NE Philly and in it was a picture when there was a regular trolley that ran on Castor Ave.

The over-heads must be used to recharge the batteries, as they can run without contact.

They can, but not for long. The disel ahxilary power unit is meant as a backup. Not to be used as the main power source.

Those are 2008 E40LF buses.
The Xt40 didn't come until 2014.
